    Back Pain

Interesting this has question has come up... I was banded on 6/30 and 3 weeks after the surgery the left side of my back started hurting pretty bad. I don't recall having pulled it funny. I asked my doctor and he said it was not related to the surgery...I wonder???

    1st Fill July 29 - Any Advice?

Here's my story on my first fill. Unfortunately, it was a very bad experience. I was banded on 6/27 and was scheduled to have the fill next week but I'll be on vacation so I asked to bump it up a week. I think that was a mistake! The nurse practitioner did the procedure. My assumption is she's done many but definately had problems with me. Why I don't know. They had me stand up to find the port and her pushing on my stomach really hurt. She found the port with her fingers but the problems began when she couldn't find the port with the needle. The first poke hurt and the digging around definately added to pain. The bottom line is she missed the port and had to do it again. She pulled out the needle and and Fluid began leaking out from the hole. Mostly clear with with a hint of pink. Gross! After the second stick and my squirming in pain she had the doctor come in and they decided they couldn't do the fill because of the fluid around the port. :smile2: How disappointed I was. Has anyone else experience this? They didn't even offer to numb the area. It was so bad I don't even want to go back. This was my experience. I'm sure your's will be fine. My advice is to numb the area.
  3. Holy cow, I'm glad I've found this post! I had a very similar experience with my first fill today. Actually, they couldn't find the damn port because there was Fluid around the port and when they poked me it all started leaking out...gross and it hurt like hell. The nurse practitioner could not find it and the doctor came in and said they couldn't do the fill because of the fluid around the port. How disappointing! Is this normal? They didn't even offer to numb the area. It was so bad I don't even want to go back. My wife is nurse!
  4. Hi all! This site is great. I have question regarding restriction. I was banded on 6/30 and I've not had a fill yet. As the days and weeks go on I find that I have very little restriction with food. Why is this. Good or bad? My doctor moved me off of the mushy phase so that I can eat almost anything reasonable.
  5. my 17 month old kicked me in the port area. ouch!

    Feeling "full"?

Good question! I asked the same thing to my doctor and the dietician and they looked at me dumbfounded. Both where a size 2 and have no idea what I go through. Full does not equal being stuffed which is what I'm used to. I've found that I get stuffed much quicker with less food and then I'm in pain for a couple of hours. So I've learned thru trial and error where the stopping point is. Is that full...I have no idea but it works for me.
  7. Thanks all! Initially, I had a noticeable restriction probably because the stomach was swollen from the surgery...which makes sense. Now i have to eat way too much to feel anything so I avoid this as much as possible.
  8. you're not! I took my liquid vicodin every two hours for the first couple of days.
  9. Interesting. My pain only came when in the seated positon and that lasted about a week until it subsided. I was most comfortabler laying down and I could lay on the port side the same night. It will get better!
  10. I would say I was hungry right after surgery but over the course of the first week that settled down. Head hunger was a definate problem for me too. I had my surgery on 6/30 and I can't say that I feel restricted at this point. I did initally but not so much anymore. I'm waiting for my 1st fill but I've lost 30 lbs in about a month.
