  1. Happy 62nd Birthday Puna Teri!

  2. Hey Volcano lady, I was thinking about you this week. I read a really good blog on here about fills and wanted to give you a copy. It really made the whole process of fills simple, and easy to relate what we are going through and what and when we need to ask for a fill. I'm sorry you couldn't get in sooner, but it sounds like you are adjusting better , as of late. I feel fantastic, I'm starting back swimming tomorrow. I'm losing a couple of pounds a week, and the Doctor says, I'm right where I should be. I go back on March 30th. We are really busy with the house, there is something going on here everyday. I've been helping Cliff with some painting and am finishing the mosaic tileing on the kitchen pillars, I've been working on for years ! Big accomplishment, and I'm thrilled I have the energy to do it. I'll talk to you soon. Stay well and I'm glad your doing better with the fill.

  3. Hi Teri,

How are you doing? I couldn't get an earlier appointment, but that's OK, I can wait. Feeling great actually.

I'll try to give you call this week.

  4. Wendell, I just wanted to say thank you for the most helpful and simplified version of a fill, I have read. My surgery was 2/9/2009. Other lap band patients that went before me, are complaining about no restriction, even after one or two fills. I feel just right myself. We do have the problem you mention in #1, We live in Hilo and have to fly to Honolulu for our fills, and the surgeon told one of the banders, her first fill , he was just giving her .2c/c, so as not to over fill and have her, to turn around and fly back. I'm going to pass this info along at our next Bariatric meeting. I think it would be very helpful. Kaiser in Honolulu has only been doing the Lap-Band for a couple of years now, so I am part of a pioneer group from the Big Island.

  5. Thanks for answering my post, Mr. Rice Guy ! You might already be over your gas, by now, but even if you are, continue to walk, walk walk. Moving our bodies is one of the bet things we can do for ourselves. Just think of all he fun things you are going to be able to do with your little girl. Runing after her is going to give you joy and keep you fit at the same time . Men tend to lose faster then women,so your progress will probably be faster then me, but that's okay, I'm much older and I ave a lt of patience ! Good luck !

  6. Patty, I have to laugh, I'm so ignorant about this blogging thing. I need you to show me how to add my picture and the ticker tape etc. Anyway, it was great seeing you Saturday, you look great! I don't know if it's just me, but that lady sitting on the other side of you, looks terrible, and so do most of the bypass people, to me. Their skin color, and thin dull hair, they are not the picture of good health! We are going to look much better then they do, in the long run ! Sorry I didn't hang out after with you, but I needed to pick up a valentine and present for Cliff and some other incidentals, and I'm pacing myself. I feel great, but it's only been 6 days , and I'm all about treating myself great from here on out ! I definetly feel restriction, I will have to find out on the 20th, how many c/c's I have. I am so happy for you , about the exercise, before you know it, you are going to be a little hottie ! I know we can do this ! Talk to you soon.

    Irrationally upset by crazy coments.....

I can relate to this also Marie. I give it right back to them," Oh I don't think I will, do you? When I've got all this great support and positive feedback , from people like you. Or, I make up statistics, like, " statistics show there are at least one obese women in every office, I wonder who will be taking my place"! I find laughter is the best medicine . And I have found tons of humo , in what comes out of the mouths of ignorant, rude, and self absorbed people. Don't let anyone that shallow rob you of one once of your joy. You will succeed, and don't let anyone tell you differently !

I am feeling great after surgery !

I have tried to learn from all the bandsters that have proceeded me. I am 5 days out of surgery, feel great , didn't have any complications. I used all the tricks I read for helping the gas pain and they worked great, didn't have any pain, and got rid of the gas the first three days , by walking and using gas x. I was even able to empty out on the morning of the 3rd day, by having a cup of organic Kona coffee and a shot of half & half. I'm not hungry, but I have been eating a cup of healthy soup, for one meal a day and then a couple of protein drinks along with sipping water all day and into the evening . I have been a very slow weight loser, before surgery, but I have really firmed and toned by swimming everyday, have to be away from that for a couple of weeks, so I'm walking at least a mile a day. My new goal is to add at least a 1/2 hour every day,of weight resistance. I need to build more muscle to start really burning those calories. I have no doubt, I am going to reach my goals, one day at a time. Thanks to all, for sharing, I will definetly continue to pass it forward !

    Too big for surgery...

I started using the sleep apnea machine about a year and a half ago. I can't say I've lost a noticeable amount of weight because of the machine. However it has made an incredible improvement in my energy and well being. I currently swim everyday, I walk, I'm getting more and more active as time goes by. I have lost weight and inches because I now have the energy to move. I am having my surgery on Feb. 9th. The medical staff tells me, the chances are strong, I won't need the machine , once I've lost the weight. The machine is hard for a lot of people to get used to using. For me, I feel it saved my life, now I have the energy to continue living a healthy lifestyle with the added tool, of the band, to drop the weight. Good Luck to you
  14. Volcano Lady is my friend, we started the lap band program at the same time. For me, I have been waiting two years to get this surgery done. I'm still waiting for my call from the surgeon. Kaiser has put us through so many hoops, I'm fed up ! Now I hear this unnessary horror story my friend just had to endure, and I don't know what to do. I was supposed to be called for my surgery in December also, and all I've gotten is the run around. After all this time, I'm second guessing everything, if this is a sign, maybe I shouldn't do the surgery. I've lost confidence in Kaisers bariatric team and I just don't know what to do or think at this point. I'm so close and yet I've never felt this fearful and unsure since I first requested to get into the program.
  15. Aloha wintobethin & Merry Christmas ! I'm responding to you for several reasons. I'm 58, I'm waiting for the surgeons call, I pray to God it's January, I have been waiting 2 long , long years, and 3rd, I have sleep apnea. Sounds like we have something in common ! I received pre surgery info that said , bring your sleep apnea machine with you for surgery. Now the whole program with Kaiser in Hawaii has been geared toward by-pass surgery, so we have been misinformed many times over the duration of the program, regarding guidelines for lap-band. I'd like to stay in touch, if you'd like to be friends, let me know. And I wish you and everyone else the very best.
