  1. I'm type 2 also and before surgery was taking 2000mg Metphormine, a Januvia and 45mg Actos and still uncontrolled. I was headed for insulin next. Since surgery on August 15th I'm off of all of them except the Actos. I just saw my GP last week and my A1C was great so he lowered the Actos to 30mg. I'm very happy but have worked to keep it this way. I also eat very low carb and check my BS levels every day. I was also told I would be better off with the Bypass because of my diabetes and am happy to prove them wrong! :bolt:
  2. Kay, that is so awesome! You are so close!!! Also, congratulations on your fabulous weight loss. I just got my first fill and I don't notice a huge difference yet. I'm thinking I'm going to need another one in a few weeks. It is keeping me full a little longer though so that is good, but I can still eat too much at a time. I'm making myself stop with 1/2 to 1 cup of food.
  3. I know it is all psychological but I remember being devastated to reach 299 and 300 lbs. After reaching a high of almost 340, I feel so much thinner at 295 now than I did on the way up. I guess it is all in your perception. I know I am much healthier now than I was last time I was this weight. My Blood Sugars are under control, I'm excercising and feeling great! Getting under 300 lbs has been a huge personal goal for me for so long. I'm finally there!!! :tt2: Yeah!!! Just had to share.

    Spending the night after surgery?

My Dr required me to spend the night because my BMI was over 50. I'm glad I did since my Blood Sugar dropped to 42 in the middle of the night and I didn't even notice!
  5. Thanks TB. It looks like you are almost there! I have to tell you, it feels great!
  6. Thanks! I wish it was since August. I really need to add to my ticker. I lost 29 lbs on the preop diet and 13 since my surgery. I'm a slow loser so am happy with my progress so far.
  7. Thanks for the congrats. It is nice to be a part of a community that shares the same struggles! We are fortunate to have a place to go to. I got my first fill yesterday. I now have 7cc in a 14cc band so back to liquids for a couple of days. Maybe that will give me a boost to my next mini goal...under 290. Mommymj1: I wish I had my walk in already! Good for you! Pegsinthewoods: Thank you. I feel very lucky too.
  8. lol. I have some of those pictures too. I can't wait to reach 250 again Looks like you are doing great!

    Pain with a Fill???????????????

I had my first fill today at 4 weeks post-op. They did it under x-ray and I hardly felt anything. I'm a big baby about needles also but it was really easy!

    Depressed Newbie

I had my surgery on August 15th also. I can't wait until my first fill on Monday. Since my surgery I've lost 12 lbs. I had lost some before surgery too so am happy with what I've lost so far. I knew it would be a longer road than the bypass but I would rather do it this way. I could easily eat more than I let myself eat right now and am looking forward to eating less and not being hungry as quick. I don't know how many fills that will take but I know I will get there and you will too! I wouldn't worry about gaining the 3 lbs. I know it is discouraging but right now we are just learning how to eat right with our bands and heal from the surgery. I stopped weighing every day because my scale will move me up or down 2-3 lbs daily. (I'm tend to get obsessive with the scale. lol) Must be Water fluctuations since I know that it takes 3500 calories to gain 1 pound and I'm eating between 800 to 1000 calories per day. I think 26 lbs is fantastic and you are doing amazing! Hang in there! It will get better!

    had my surgery

Hi there, I was banded on Friday, August 15th. I was back to work (desk job) on Thursday and felt pretty good. It's been two weeks since my surgery and I feel normal again except for a few twinges when I twist wrong or something. I remember sugar free popcycles made me feel better. Remember to walk, walk, walk. Hang in there. It does get better!!! Dani

    Banded August 15th

Hi. I was banded on August 15th at 8:30 in the am. Never having had surgery before I wasn't sure how I would do but it was way better than I expected! The worst part was just waking up from the anesthesia and feeling so sick to my stomach. I've been one of the lucky ones without the gas pains in the shoulder so far. I was a bit upset about the 12 lbs I gained the day of surgery but lost it within the first few days plus 6 more. :biggrin2: I'm feeling really good and went back to work last Thursday. I'm on full liquids until this Thursday. Really looking forward to some scrambled eggs! lol. I have a little bit of head hunger but I'm not starving so far. My worst problem now is since yesterday my skin is red and itchy for about an inch around my port incision. All my incisions still have the steri-strips on them. I'm supposed to leave them on until Thursday unless they fall off. I also have some itchy red welts around my other incisions. I'm not running a fever and nothing really hurts just very, very itchy. I'm thinking maybe a reaction to the streri-strips or something? I will call my Dr. tomorrow if it stays like this. I am so happy to be on this side of the surgery and on my way to a healthier, more comfortable me!!! Congrats to all the August All-Stars!!! :banghead: Dani

    Banded August 15th

Congrats on the awesome weight loss GaryB! I have to admit I'm jealous of those scrambled eggs. lol. I was supposed to advance to that last Thursday but at my post-op visit my surgeon said they had just made it a new policy to have full liquids for 2 weeks instead of 1...oh well... 3 more days. I'm loving my band too! Dani

    Training Session: Diet, Exercise, Post-op...

I think it is smart to stick with your 2 protein shakes. My Dr had me on a full liquid diet for a week before surgery and I know it made it easier for me after surgery already being used to the protein shakes. Best of luck with your surgery! Dani

Tomorrow - My New Life Begins

Hi Angela, I'm getting my band tomorrow at 7:30 am also. It sounds like we are feeling the same way... a little nervous, but excited to get it over with. I'm thinking of this as the beginning of a new me. I have lost over 25 pounds on the prediet and can't wait to lose more!!! Best of luck tomorrow. Dani

Dini it is so nice to see you back! It has been so helpful hearing the good with the bad. I want the reality of what is ahead for me. "Flowers" and "Paint and Decorators" just cracks me up. lol. My grandma always used to say, "Fall off the roof". lol. I have never heard anyone else say that one either.:faint:

Hi Patti, From what I've read it is a kind of modified Roux-N-Y surgery. Still involves cutting part of your stomach.

I wish they would give us an update on Allen too. I'm a reality TV addict. lol. Oh, Chimboree, I plan on excercising on the treadmill at the gym for now. After surgery when I'm able I want to get into some light weight training to firm things up. I can't believe your laptop caught on fire! Kind of scary! lol. Cazulay, you are a saint! Best of luck to you on your new journey! We will all be here for you.

Scotland sounds awesome! I'm headed to Montana on the 4th. Not quite the same. lol. I'm taking my Mom for her 70th birthday on a vacation. I told her I would take her anywhere she wanted to go so we are going to be visiting relatives over there. I'm really looking forward to it but wish it was next year instead when I am going to be all skinny. lol.

Dini, I'm so glad you are doing better! I was getting worried. Can you feel your port? Where did they put it? Do any of the incisions get in the way of your clothing? Lynette, Laurend, BobertsMom, MrsHorne and Abbey I'm so happy for you! The 2nd and 3rd are going to be here before you know it! Are you excited or what? My prayers are headed your way. Welcome to all the newbies! You will find all the support you need right here! Have any of you been watching Big Medicine? I felt so sorry for that 700lb (can't remember exact weight) man that couldn't get insurance to cover his operation. We are all so fortunate to either have insurance or have managed to get funds to pay for it.
