  1. I'm looking forward to that! Eg: I used to love ice cream and cereal, but now I'm more lactose intolerant and rarely have either. Please surgery - add more to that "no no" list.
  2. I'm still very early in this process (have met with Dr., psychologist and had lab work) and today I'm having my first meeting with the dietician. I'm very excited because I desperately need the help. But also very nervous because I feel like things get very real after this and I just don't have much confidence I can make changes to my eating habits. It's been a miserable year of trying, driving me to the (somewhat) depression I have now that's caused me to seek out surgery. And I'm really concerned what it's going to do to me psychologically if she tells me I need to do X (to prepare for the surgery? to prove I'm ready?) and I fail at it. Yesterday was a really tough day for me emotionally, I'm not even sure why. I've lived a very happy 50 years and it's only the past year the weight has really gotten me down. And I'm just not sure what's going on in my normally clear head right now. Really appreciate BariatricPal, though! I've never talked much about weight stuff with people who can relate before. It's therapeutic.

    Goal #1: COMPLETE!

    Congratulations!!! Love stories like this.
  4. I was surprised, too. I thought I did. I'm glad I don't because it's the only pre-visit that's not covered by insurance. And I do plan to continue to see them some, even with self-pay, just shorter sessions. I'm sure it's possible for me to do 25 pounds, done it many times before. Just haven't been able to do it lately. But my appointment went well and I'm confident.
  5. A different person every time would really tick me off! I really liked the woman I worked with. I don't have to see her again, but I may as I try to lose 25 pounds before surgery. She was impressed how much I knew and said I'd be surprised how many people talk to her without really knowing what they're getting into. Can't imagine making this decision without the immense research I've already done. Hope things work out well for you.

    Having cold feet….

That's what it sounds like to me, but I hope others with more experience jump in to help you. If you go through with it, you've set yourself up so well for long term success knowing you can eat well and exercise regularly even without it. I've gotta believe that makes the chances of success with it that much higher. The one thing that keeps entering my mind - almost everyone I hear from who's had the surgery says they wish they'd done it sooner. Very few regrets.

    Having cold feet….

Can't speak from experience, unfortunately, as I'm still in early stages but assuming I'm able to successfully lose weight leading up to the surgery, I've wondered about the same thoughts. Even asked my doctor if a lot of people drop out after their able to lose on their own (she said no). The reason I think I will continue is I've successfully lost weight in the past only to gain it back later. I think I need this change to make it a permanent loss. I don't know if you've been able to lose on your own in the past only to gain in back, but that may help you decide if you should go forward.
  8. Miraculous! I tend to eat pretty healthy foods (being a vegetarian helps), I just eat way too much of it. So feeling positive about things right now.
  9. Wow! Thank you so much for all that detail. It's so helpful to hear that from someone in such a similar situation. You are officially my hero now! 😂
  10. Living this life for 50 years, it's just inconceivable that I could ever feel satisfied on even 1300 calories. It's very encouraging seeing so many posts like yours that tell me otherwise. And I realize it's going to take a lot of work on my part, too. Just such a foreign concept right now.
  11. Thank you for the suggestions. I've been reading a ton including these boards and will probably check on one of those books as well. Makes sense that a larger person might have a larger calorie goal. Don't know what didn't occur to me. So much more to learn!
  12. Thanks everyone for the responses. I have talked to my doctor which is how I arrived at WLS. She felt it was a good option for me. I'm in the early stages of going through the process with the surgeon now, so we'll see if they agree I'm a good candidate. I assume for a few months I'll have a much smaller appetite, it's the long-term 1000 cals a day I was more thinking about. Maybe that's too few. Maybe that's just what my body will get used to. Just seems so incredibly small but if it others in my situation do it and get used to it, I'm sure I can, too.
