    June 2022 surgery buddies

I guess my lunch was a little to big or I drank it a little too fast. I have an ache on my left side that's been hurting since this afternoon. No interest in having anything else since. This is my first eating-related pain or discomfort since I started (have had zero nausea). It's not fun. I'll slow down tomorrow.

Chips and salsa and bad eating day

Not the best decision in the world, obviously. But 3 at a time throughout the day - imagine what it would've been like before the surgery. The backstop worked and now you can get right back to work. And yes, the salsa isn't bad at all. As a newbie to this (one week post-op), this is actually a very encouraging story - thank you.

I'm one week out today and only get a sting if I really move in the wrong way. But for the most part, the pain went away in 4-5 days. Every day was a huge improvement over the last. Day 1 was very painful. Hope you have the same positive experience.
  4. Welcome. I've been here since shortly after my first consultation, and the knowledge and advice I've gotten here has been invaluable.

Am I doing this right am I broken?

You won't be on liquids forever so your mindset will definitely change. Even adding soups and yogurt helped me SO much. But if you're feeling faint regularly and having trouble getting your protein, I'd make sure to tell your doctor and/or nutritionist. One thing I've seen here is there are many, many post-op diets, and they may be able to ease up some of the restrictions to help you feel better and meet your requirements.

Got a surgery date! Sept 6th!

First time I got a date it was about 3 months out. When that cancelled because I got Covid, my replacement date was a little more than 3 months out. Both flew by!

    Backing out

Said 99% of the people I've seen, and ultimately this was the single biggest factor in me having the surgery despite al my concerns and doubts.

    Backing out

I had doubts like everyone. One of the best things that happened to me was my surgery was cancelled 2 days prior due to me getting Covid. The disappointment I felt over that and, especially, the anger I felt every time I was still fat after the surgery date, instead of losing weight, made me certain this was what I wanted to do. No one can tell you what to do, but be honest with yourself, don't just give in to fear. I've seen very few people who regret the surgery and tons and tons who wish they'd done it sooner.

I did not know there were doctors who had no protein after the operation. I would never advocate not following their rules, that just seems so strange. I have to get at least 60g per day starting the day after surgery because, she told me, that's crucial to the healing process. The one thing I would say, never be afraid to talk to your doctor and/or nutritionist and explain the difficulties you're having. I've seen that come up often on these boards and doctors have made adjustments as a result. This is clearly not an exact, one-size-fits-all science, so they may be able to do some stuff to make things a little easier for you without impeding your recovery.

What about protein? You're not getting any calories or protein at all until June 30?

I am so happy my doctor only required one day of clear liquids before moving me to stage 2 which basically means anything liquid including soup and yogurt. Isopure protein powder goes with everything, so I'm loving having yogurt, cream of wheat and creamy soups to get my protein in. I will be perfectly happy to never have a protein shake again for as long as I live.
  13. Such a great feeling, congratulations.

    No BM since surgery

I also had surgery on the 21st. Took a prescribed laxitive twice a day and sprinkled fiber on some of my eats. Still didn't have my first until yesterday. I've read on here about people going almost 2 weeks. I wouldn't wait that long before checking with my doctor, but I wouldn't panic either.

I am constantly amazed at how different doctors have such different plans. My doc isn't even matching my nutritionist. I had my surgery on Tuesday. On Wednesday they brought me my breakfast in the hospital and it said "Stage 2". I verified they sent me the right they thing. They said yep, already time to move on to Stage 2. My nutritionist packet said it should be another day. I really feel for people who had a 100% liqu8id pre-op or, like you, are stuck on clear liquids for 4 days. But I guess we'll all in end up in the same place.

Surgery on June 21 (Tuesday) Today was the first day I felt crummy. My son had a bday party and instead of dropping him off I hung around talked. My first time out for an extended period of time. There were a few stairs, not too many. Sipped water while I was there using a timer to keep it slow. When I got home I had about 11 ounces of tomato soup with protein powder eaten over 90 minutes (my doc wants me to consume 1-2 ounces of liquid every 15 minutes all day long). Then a couple more ounces of water over the next half hour. Next thing I knew, I was FULL. I'm not 100% sure it was food fullness. Maybe some soreness thrown in there. Maybe some gas, I don't know. I just know I felt full like I'd eaten a big meal. I was physically uncomfortable but mentally jumping for joy at the thought of being able to be satisfied on so much less food! Laid down for a while. Didn't put anything in my mouth for about two hours, and now I'm feeling ok and typing this. Doobie.

    10 weeks post op

Congratulations on your success. I hope I'm doing this well in 9 weeks. This is so encouraging.

    June 29th Surgery....

My surgery was originally scheduled for March 17. I did the 2 week pre-op diet which was miserable. Like everyone, I had my doubts if I was doing the right thing. Then 2 days before I was positive for Covid and the surgery was postponed. Though I wanted to continue on a good path, I was not ablet to and before long I was eating like my old self. Every difficult thing I encountered due to my weight depressed me because I knew I should've been X weeks past the surgery by now. Most of the doubts I had disappeared. I realized how depressed I was it was postponed. Maybe it turned out to be for the best, because as the new date approached, I had almost no doubts. I was ready. The surgery was June 21, it went very well and I'm on the road to recovery. The postponement may have been a blessing in disguise. I don't know anyone that wasn't nervous, it's a part of the process.
  19. Now that I've had my surgery (June 21), these aren't as fun anymore 😂 The thought of all that food does not make me feel good. Maybe that craving will come back. But during my pre-op, these videos made life much better. I suspect I'll like them again once I'm eating again.
  20. I'm halfway through my 2 week pre-op diet and in the past couple of days I've discovered I enjoy watching YouTube videos of people doing food challenges. Not gross, 10 hot dogs in a minute challenges, but eating lots of food. I feel like it partially satisfies my desire to binge and also gives me some of that about-to-eat anticipation I love. And for whatever reason, it doesn't make me more hungry. I even enjoy watching them eat things that I don't eat (since I'm a vegetarian). I also like watching people do food reviews while they're eating though not quite as much. Anyone else experience this? Does this sound like a bad thing? I don't want to embed a YouTube video since the thumbnail has food, but here's an example of one I really enjoyed watching last night: Click here for food
  21. Had my surgery on Tuesday. On Thursday I weighed 5lbs more than I did on Monday. Today, Friday, I'm down 1 lb. I know this is temporary, but hearing about how others' first week went will help me feel better if anyone wants to share. Doobie.
  22. Today I reached my pre-surgery weight. It's all downhill from here (I hope). Can't help it - I really look forward to my daily weigh-in.

    June 21st Peeps

I'm only on day 3 at home and every day feels like every other. Got my 15 minute timer. Every time it goes off, I have one or two ounces of something. Reaching my goal of 64oz liquid 32oz of which is water and 60g protein. My doc doesn't have me on any vitamins right now. She stopped them just before surgery. Never really had any gas pains, so thankful. Just ab soreness and pain getting up and down. No hunger at all so far, so sticking to this program is not hard, just monotonous and boring. Which I'll take over difficult and painful.

Sounds very normal to me. I had surgery June 21. Was lucky enough to have no gas pains so the only pain I've had is where the incisions are and soreness internally. As long as I'm still, I'm fine. Getting up and down hurts a little or hurts a lot depending on how careful I am. So I think you're 100% normal.

WHAT does religion have to do with me having surgery??????

I'm a Christian who tries very hard to live my life as God would want me to. Nothing in my beliefs says this surgery is a sin. I'm sure there are some people of various religions (and no religion) who believe you shouldn't do it, but it's not mainstream. I hope you don't let this bother you too much. My pastor is also my father-in-law and he is very supportive of this decision.
