Sore Calves....anyone else?
kjhack replied to bigloser2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been having this problem since my surgery on 10-22. My doctor did labwork and I was low on potassium. You may want to try and eat some smashed bananas or even prunes. They both have a good amount of potassium in them. Also g2 gatorade has potassium, but very few carbs. I have increased my fluids a bunch and ate a banana a day and a few prunes and now mine are doing much better. Don't forget to walk, walk, walk. Good luck. -
Worried I am eating too much, please help..
kjhack replied to watermum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm right there with you. i'm 5 weeks post op! I can eat quite a bit too. Chicken breast gives me a lot of trouble. I can eat a cup at a time. I am trying hard to make good choices and eat as much protein as I can and ALWAYS eat protein first. It is really hard. So is this bandster hell? Waiting for a fill? I'm do to have one at my 6 week post op visit next week. God help me. I hope it works. -
Congrats!! Joe! It is one of my best decisions ever! My port was sore for 1-2 weeks. Some people never have that pain, but man I did. Hopefully it will ease up for you soon. Welcome to BANDLAND! Kelli

My port site was sore for the first 2-3 weeks. That is totally normal. It is also normal to have "buyers remorse", to not know if this was the right decision. But you have to look at the pros. I'm a month out and down 30lbs!!!! I have NEVER been able to loose weight well and now look!!!! WOW!!! The first few days to a week are tough, but you can get through it!!! We are all here for you. It really does get better at about day 3 or 4 post op. Keep us up to date on your progress! Congrats and welcome to band land!!! Kelli

My nutrionist at our weight loss center puts everyone on a fish oil supplement at 4 wks post surgery. She recommends coromega. It is a liquid, it goes down easy and doesnt taste bad at all. I take one every day now, it is cheap at vitaminshoppe.com. Kelli

I get on it pretty often to keep trake of my protein intake and track my excersice amounts. I wish it had a diary you could type your thought in for the day. It also would be nice if it had a chat room for realize bandsters.

I am right there with you. I get up at 530am and take 2 kids to school program then commute 45 mins to work. I totally understand. I have starting walking around our builidng on my breaks. I may do 10 mins in am, 10 mins in pm and 10 mins at lunch, but i am now getting the time in. It makes me feel soo much better. -
Yep definately told no straw with lap band. Too much excess air in pouch, can cause stretching. Good luck.

help i'm putting all my weight back on
kjhack replied to howells's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so I figured that 4 stone is 56lbs. You should be able to go in and discuss all of this with your surgeon. If their office has a dietician that would be the ideal person for you to discuss eating habits with. She would have some great ideas to get you back on track. We are all here for you. Best of luck and keep us posted. Kelli -
Protein Supplement shakes... any suggestions?
kjhack replied to razberry*kisses's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like Matrix 5.0 by syntrax in chocolate. Yummy and not all gritty like most whey proteins. I got it at vitamin shoppe in a 5lb bag for $43. Last a long time. Kelli -
Had my gall bladder out 3 years ago and my lapband almost 1 month ago. No problems with scar tissue that I know of. Best of luck with you surgery!

I am 3 almost 4 weeks post op. I am having hair thinning. I know mine is because I'm not getting enough protein in. I am working hard on that. Dr says it will come back in time. So I went and got a perm to thicken it up. Hopefully that works for awhile. Good luck to all! Kelli.

3 weeks post op and stomach still sore
kjhack replied to bonnielass's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 10-22. I still have pain occasionally at the port site. My dr said that is normal, and should decrease over time. Ok so WHEN? So I understand you dilema. I would discuss it with your dr or at least his nurse. Best of luck with your weight loss. -
I have was on a large allergy med and they switched me off that one and on to a different one. I was also on a large reflux me and the switched me to protonix which is pretty small. Make sure you discuss all this with your dr preop and get prepared for smaller pills for post op. Best of Luck!!!!

Post-surgery, when do you feel "normal" again?
kjhack replied to heidi8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it was around 10 days for me. I was banded on 10-22 and I feel great. Totally back to normal for me! Hope all goes well for you, take it easy. This is called the recovery period for a reason. -
What's everyone eating on Thanksgiving?
kjhack replied to Catherine55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am planning on some turkey with gravy to help it slide down and some noodles with mashed potatos. Probably right at 1/2 cup. I havent had my first fill yet, but that is due the Monday after Thanksgiving. I do have some restriction, just from band. So hopefully all will go well. Happy Turkey Day all!!!! -
Which Band - Realize or Allergan/Iname
kjhack replied to texasweb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a realize band. My dr came in right before surgery and discussed both bands. He didn't favor one over the other. I chose a realize band and i love it. Kelli -

I was banded 10-22 and am doing great! Feel all back to normal, just can't eat as much as before. Still on smushies for another 2 weeks. Won't have first fill until 12-1. Hope everyone keeps up the good work. Kelli -
My name is Jen and I'm addicted to...
kjhack replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG!! Can I join your "scales anonymous club" too? I am so bad about this! I was banded 10-22 and now its an obsession. I have to weigh myself every morning before my shower. Its crazy. But I agree with everyone else I use it as a tool. If I ate something I wasnt supposed to it would show on the scale. It keeps me accountable. Kelli
