Meal planning helps me. My surgeon said Protein is the most important thing my Nutritionist said hydrate 1st and protein 2nd. I’m not big into weighing I got some ramekins that are 3 ounces I put what I want in that and eat until I’m full normally I don’t finish it but things like cottage cheese I can finish it no problem. It is time consuming but I feel meal planning and meal prepping is the easiest where I can have a life too still I have the 64 ounce water bottle with times in it like someone else mentioned I just fill it in the morning keep it in the fridge and fill a smaller 20 ounce water bottle from that and I know I’ve drank my fluids by the end of the day

Drinking water gets tiring! 😪
huskymama replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mixed 1/2 sugar free Gatorade with Water the first few weeks. Hot herbal teas are also great and I just started crystal light a few days ago but can only drink one a day I prefer the taste of plain water personally but I have spring water that comes into my house not city water. Maybe try buying bottled water see if that helps Also I get the big body armor light and drink a few ounces of that a day. My Dr and Nutritionist said it was okay to do. I have to drink cold cold with pebble ice except tea I like it hot from the sink not to hot but hot. -

I had buyer remorse but it does get easier. Gatorade sugar free was my savior. I’d mix it 1/2 and 1-2 with Water. You’d be surprised how fast you will be able to drink more. The first few days are rough and now I’m 4 weeks out I’m eating real food though soft and I feel human again. My little tummy is pretty happy most of the time now it just really hates all Beans in any form or variety. I still sip water and let me tell you I didn’t o ce just not thinking and it hurt like hell for a good 10 minutes - not worth it trust me. Take it easy I named my tummy little turd because it has a mind of its own. Kinda helped honestly I mean we go through the pain of having a baby and this baby is so worth it and needs taken care of with this we get nothing. So now I have my little turd who gets taken care of like a newborn (except the name of course.) and when it acts up it’s like a new baby needing something - a drink or a burp. I want to keep it happy and healthy so slow she goes lol Hang in there you’ve got this and watching the weight come down will out the biggest smile on your face - trust me you will be just fine -
My Dr told me set an alarm I’m to eat 6 small meals a day around 200 calories. Honestly I just turn the alarm off and finish what I’m doing 1/2 the time I forget until the next alarm goes off. I’m lucky to hit 700 calories a day but I’m only 4 weeks post op. Take some hair and nail Vitamins I had someone who had VSG tell me that and she didn’t loose very much like not even noticeable. Food is yucky to me too but I know my body needs nutrition. Good on the weight loss! Hope you can find something you like!

Honestly if you only have 30 pounds to loose do it without surgery. Go vegan for a month or try something but I wouldn’t have surgery. I went raw vegan and lost 20 pounds easy and felt great and full. I had to go off because life happened but I didn’t regain it. I am happy with the progress I have had the past 4 weeks since VSG but I honestly wish I had given myself more time being vegan and waited on the VSG. I was loosing more and faster, felt better, and had energy like I haven’t had since a kid. So no don’t do it for a small amount of weight. It isn’t the easy road or just to do for vanity. It’s rough - like reading, watching etc what others say about it still doesn’t prepare you for how rough it is. And you will have 6 scars from it. If your minds made up then go for it! And I dropped to 31 BMI day of surgery it didn’t matter it mattered what I started with. I wish I had asked more questions like you are - I would not have done the surgery. But I did and I’m happy with the results. I hope you will be too! Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
huskymama replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Also I was told by Nutritionist that if you can eat cheese and tolerate it you’re ready to move to solids. I saw somewhere someone was keeping themselves on liquids but eating cheese but check with your Dr or Nutritionist that’s just what mine told me. -

4 weeks out today VSG 12/22/21, and my Nutritionist started letting me eat real food ie soft real food Saturday and I had some chicken omg it was Heaven. Started the liquid diet before thanksgiving so it’s been awhile for me since I’ve eaten real food. My weight was 197 today so 30 pound total loss from liquid to today. The only thing I’m dealing with is I’m severely allergic to eggs now - big welts so Dr saw them said yep full blown allergy and my tummy hates Beans - all Beans I’ve tried them refried, hummus and I made pinto beans with ham for the family - had them in the crockpot 12 hours ate a few chewed well and back up they came. So I hope this resolves because I eat a lot of beans pre the VSG. I totally forgot to eat most of the mid morning to about 4 today and only got in around 500 calories. Other than that I’m super excited about where I am at. I still feel tenderness if I over do things on my right side where they removed the stomach but that’s it! No brain fog or vision issues at all. Glad to see you guys doing good and glad to finally be moving from the dreaded stall lol! -
Am I really gonna lose weight?
huskymama replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I went into a stall and really thought it wasn’t going to work for me. I totally understand how you feel. Mine started around day 10-11 and I saw my Nutritionist last week. She cleared me to start eating soft foods which I did the past 2 days and today I finally started loosing again! So have patience- which is easier said then done I know. I started at 227 and today I am 197.7. VSG 12/22/2021. Be patient with yourself, follow your program, see your Nutritionist if you can mine helped me not just food wise but mentally and emotionally to know I was on the right track. Also I am walking 3 miles a day so walk as much as you can it didn’t help me in the stall but it lifts my spirits and better than sitting on the couch! Also I can’t go outside due to weather so this is all in the house and not all at once -
Living with a new stomach?
huskymama replied to HaseenS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink sugar free Gatorade- I’ll take it and mix it with water and my son got me a sugar free body armor I asked my surgeon and nutritionist if it was ok both said yes. So I get the big bottles and I’ll sip on 1/2 of one a day with my water. I’ve never had an issue to the water and hit my 64 ounce goal within in the first week but I drank a lot of water before surgery. Also I keep it on my night stand so if I wake up for any reason I take several sips of the water. It helps. -

4 weeks out tomorrow and saw my nutritionist last Thursday she cleared me to go from purée to soft. It broke my stall and today I am 197.7!! I am still not hitting 1200 calories but I know when I’m full now unlike liquid and purée stage. I had real chicken cooked super soft yesterday and it was so amazing I felt human agin! I’m still eating cottage cheese but I didn’t purée it and I’m not sure when I’ll eat tuna again blah had enough! She also cleared me to eat white potatoes which I usually eat sweet potatoes but the store was out of them. So I had a small Yukon Gold potatoe (no skin) with a very small amount of organic grass fed butter (like real small 1/4 of a teaspoon) and about 1/2 of low fat sour cream topped with some fiesta shredded cheese for added Protein. I ate about 3/4 of it and was super full of course I didn’t eat the skin and I actually pushed off most of the sour cream it was just to much for me. But it was super yummy! Also I am up to 3 miles a day walking. SW 227 Todays weight 197.7 VSG 12/22/2021 -
Tendonitis, Rotator Cuffs, and Changed Physiology
huskymama replied to GreatestLibrarian's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I’ve had a slipped rotator cuff for 8 years and torn biceps same shoulder. I have gone to get it done just to find out preop I had a herniated disc on my neck that was life threatening and had that done first. I’m allergic to pain meds (recovered from my neck surgery and VSG with only Tylenol) I have heard the shoulder repair is worse than the knee surgery - had an ACL repair on my right one with just Tylenol and Benadryl- by day 2 of non stop crying I was ready to loose it. So I’m Terrified of getting my shoulder done. I’m in pain all the time but not the pain I’ll feel post op. Good luck to all of you who need to have surgery. -
I lost 10 pounds week one then only one pound since and I’ll be 4 weeks out this coming Tuesday. I’ve lost 29 pounds total from liquid to now. My Nutritionist told me I need to push my calories to 1200 a day to start loosing again. I’m walking 3 miles a day now so I’m super frustrated l. I was vegan preop and I was loosing way more than this and I’ve questioned if this was smart or not. My husband, surgeon and Nutritionist keep telling me to be patient I’ll loose eventually… but when? We shalll see I suppose I only had 100 to loose so now I have around 70 it is encouraging to see you’ve lost 107
-
Mine was 10 days puréed until 4 months post op which is this coming Tuesday and then soft for another month so everyone is different just follow what you were told My nutritionist said if your tummy doesn’t like the puréed go back to liquid for a few days try again everyone heals differently
-
I was told chew 25-30 times or to as puréed as possible I do count now I’m becoming OCD about it lol

I’m almost a month out and saw my nutritionist Thursday because I’ve only lost a pound the past 2 weeks m. I use an app for my calories and water and even though I’m getting in my water my calories are under 750. She told me to up my calories and it should break the stall. So my advice is follow the protocol you’ve been given and if you feel unsure etc see if you can get into your nutritionist- it made all the difference in the world to me and calmed my anxiety way way down.

Do hiccups mean anything?
huskymama replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Like others I’m full or if I haven’t eaten in awhile because I forget I get them but they are like a weird burp hiccup combo -
What were some of the first solid foods you tried?
huskymama replied to LoriM13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am hitting 4 weeks Tuesday I saw my Nutritionist this past Thursday she told me to get a rotisserie chicken and cook it in the crock pot with some broth and even vegis she said eat one or two small bites the first time and wait and hour see how I do. She also said I could take lentil or vegi pasta (I have celiacs can’t eat gluten so that’s what I ate anyway) too it with some ricotta cheese and marinara sauce. Again 1-2 small bites see how I do. I’m so over canned tuna and chicken and soup I seriously only had protein shakes yesterday the thought of eating anything else was just not something I can do. She told me wait for crackers and breads until 3 months out because it can still hurt my tummy. I can eat, of course, baked or grilled fish etc. sweet potatoes and she said I can have a small amount of white mashed if I want but not much not often -

Yes I had no idea when I was full until the past two days - I hit 3 weeks yesterday- and to my surprise I start kinda hiccuping but not like normal ones and today I now feel the dreaded pain of I am full that I’ve heard so many others talked about. I am thinking maybe the nerves are finally waking back up? Idk! I started measuring 3 oz I can eat between 2-3 depending on what it is -

I lost really good until week two then nothing for days I’ve only lost just under 2 pounds the past week - was 3 weeks yesterday- but I measure weekly and I lost 8.5 inches so I’m thinking maybe I lost more just not seeing it right now? I’ve lost 28 pounds since liquid stage and down 29 inches total all over. Finally hit 199 the other day but haven’t gotten any lower - I’ll take it 😀 And I’m week 3 which is the dreaded stall week for most anyway. I see my Nutritionist tomorrow I’m hoping she can give me tips. Also my scale says my visceral fat (the fat around the organs) went from 17 to 14 so I’m thinking that has to be a good thing! -

Don’t get frustrated my Dr told me some patients do not loose anything for 6 weeks because your body is in shock and upset from surgery and trying to heal. Just stick to the program it will come off I go through 3-5 days loose nothing then I’ll loose a pound and then loose a little everyday for a few days then bam nothing again. I wanted more weight loss but the Dr said I’m doing good plus slow weight loss is better than fast because it gives your body time to catch up and tone up like you said. Also I was on the liquid preop for a little over a month so I’m so ready for real food. I am walking 2 miles a day and that is in the house because the weather outside it not walking weather. 3 more weeks I’m cleared to go to the gym. Also make sure you’re getting your Water in that helps a ton. I do a Protein Shake at 8 AM and pretty much only eat puréed tuna all day ever 2 hours 3 ounces and if I’m hungry again after 6 I do another Protein shake. i feel like I am eating cat food with all the puréed tuna but it’s the only thing my body likes right now -
Had my surgery on the 5th
huskymama replied to iamsunflower2011's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ice cubes are great I agree with that and it gets the eating and crunchy need to stop. I feel that cold things made my tummy feel better like maybe helped with swelling? But also sugar free Gatorade is awesome I would dilute my water with it to get more in but I drank it cold cold cold with ice -
I had the sleeve 12/22 I have only craved 2 things and they were weird 4 days out I wanted onions 🧅 like I wanted to eat them like apples I never have eaten them that way so I was like wtf?!! Then a few days ago I craved cucumbers I wanted them juiced that made more since because I drank a lot of green juice preop. But I have cookies and chips etc here for my family I have no desire to eat any of it. So today I bought stuff for a green smoothie including my beloved cucumbers lol
