    Why were YOU overweight?

Great stories! My sister was born pre-maturely and very sickly, and I followed one year and 17 days later. My sister had to be tempted to eat; my first word was "more". My mother always liked to feed people--you get the picture! I was always overweight in the day when fat babies were considered healthy. I starved in college, so managed to date. A few years later, I caught my husband having an affair, and that was the end of self control. Kind of an "I'll show you" attitude. Depression was probably more accurate. Well, I showed him, didn't I? Still married and with eyes wide open, the weight kind of just stayed on, and slowly grew over the years. Quitting smoking added about 30 more pounds. I was always a little afraid of the radical changes the bypass did to people, so very glad when the Band came along. No regrets at all!
  2. Yeah, don't do it. In my experience, you need to have all the pre-authorizations in place, or they may very well not pay. All you need is to have a big bill at the doctor's or hospital that you plan to use for your surgery all upset that they haven't gotten paid. Unless you pay for it first, then you may have a hard time getting reimbursement. Keep trying, because it really is worth the wait. I worked on this with my insurance company for almost a year. Good luck!
  3. Hello everyone, I am 48 years old, have been heavy all of my life except for a few years of starvation. My first word was "more". I started this with a BMI of 43, weighing 260 pounds. I chose the wonderful Dr. Nizzi up here in Northern Michigan, but his whole group is good. I'd been thinking of bariatric surgery for more than four years, and seriously talking about it for two. When the Lapband option came to town, that decided it for me. Unfortunately, my family Doctor calculated my BMI incorrectly, and I didn't question it, so I waited another year before doing my own calculatons and finding that I did indeed qualify for a Lapband. Do yourself a favor and do your own research! I had the surgery on 071108, so only four days ago to date, and I feel good. The incisions itch a little, I am still taking some pain meds, and am slowly progressing on the liquid diet. At this point, no regrets. Thank you! Jeanne
  4. I just got my band on July 11, so am still adjusting. I was able to watch the food ads on TV without drooling , so far, so good!
