    A pat on the back!!!!

:biggrin:I watched The Cleaner last night too. I had forgotten just how good looking Benjamin Bratt really is and he's a good actor. Congrats on staying legal. I was pretty lucky...my pre-op diet wasn't too restrictive. I was only limited to 1500 cal/day for one week until the day before when it was liquids only. I was banded on 7/10 and will start my mushies on Thursday. I can honestly say the only time I've even wanted "real" food was at a friends party the other night. She is such a great cook and her husband had BBQ'd everything. The smells and sights started getting to me so I just went outside, sat in the swing and drank my protein shake. I was quite proud! Before the band I would have eaten one of everything. Keep up the good eating and you won't regret it.
  2. I was banded 8 days ago and I could only sip thin liquids for the first several days. I still cannot have anything too thick. Everyone is different and my doctor said some people swell more than others. You will be fine. Just continue to sip the liquids. I also thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life, but 8 days later I know it was just the emotions of everything that is going on and I am so glad I had this done. This site is great to hear from others and get the support you need. Hang in there you will be be eating solids before you know it and you won't even remember this part just the new you part.
  3. In a way I envy those of you who are hungry. I know that sounds weird but I have had a hard time with just the liquids and worry that when it comes time for soft foods and even solid foods I will really have problems. If I drink things that are too thick, they sit on my stomach like a rock until they pass. Thank goodness no vomiting! I am one week out from being banded and have lost 10 lbs...YIPEE! This forum has been a real sanity saver being able to "talk" with fellow banders. Keep up the good work everyone and I look forward to hearing how everyone is doing.

    Strange reactions about surgery

:thumbup:Unfortunately, I am not a very private person so I told a lot of people. Thank goodness most were supportive. And when an old aquaintance said "Can't you die from that?" I boldly said, I am happy about my decision just be excited for me. She changed her tune quickly. I agree, when we run into negativity we have to combat it immediately and with authority. Most of the people who say those comments have never been fat, haven't struggled with every diet imaginable and don't have the health issues we have. TRUST ME.... being banded is NOT the easy way out. It is major surgery and a complete lifestyle change for both you and your family. None of us made this decision lightly. I am just glad I have found a place here to support and be supported by others and that my family and true friends have been very excited for me and support me.

Prayers needed for a fellow bandster

I just found this thread and I am so glad to hear Joan is better and starting to rehabilitate. I will pray for Joan and her family. May the Lord continue to heal her and hold her in the palm of his hand.
  6. This thread has been a real help for me. I was banded on 7/10 and am still having a hard time figuring out what is enough but not too much for me. It seems everytime I try to drink something a little too thick like a Smoothie I am miserable. But yet long for something other than chocolate protein shake. I got chocolate because I love chocolate but now not so much. I have not been keeping track of what I take in or my protein. I know I haven't been getting enough protein and maybe that is the problem. The suggestions have been great and good advice. On a totally unrelated subject....how do you "pimp" your profile? LOL I want to get one of those weight loss counters and haven't been able to figure out how. Good luck to everyone.
  7. I was banded on July 10 and am having a hard time trying to find the right amount of fluids. My stomach is either growling/gurgling like I'm really hungry even though I don't feel that way or I feel really full. I just wish I could get this right. I am really glad about my decision to be banded but it seems like I cannot adjust to this very well. I will be off work for 4 weeks due to my job and lifting restrictions. I am going to go crazy if this doesn't start getting better.
  8. Hey we have something in common...I was banded on 7/10 also. I saw your post on a Newbie introduction and thought I would write. How are you doing so far? I am still having difficulty figuring out what is the correct amount of fluids to have. I am so over fluids too but wish I could feel semi-normal. Either I don't have enough and get this burning pit in my stomach or I drink something too thick and feel like I'm going to explode. I drink a lot of SLIM FAST low carb - but that is leaving a metal taste in my mouth because they are in metal cans. I have tried blenderized cream soups and smoothies but they seem to thick. What are you doing? Sorry if this is too long....I just want to feel connected with someone who is going through the same thing and since we were banded on the same day...I thought I would try it. I live in Clarksville, IN (just north of Louisville, KY ...where they have the Kentucky Derby). Looking forward to hearing from you.

  9. :confused:I am 44 years old and have been wanting to have this surgery for about two years. I did a lot of research and talked with several people who have had the surgery. All were very encouraging and said they did very well and that I wouldn't regret having it done. So I went through ALL of the necessary pre-op test, classes and discussed in thoroughly with my family and friends. Everyone was very supportive. I had my surgery this past Thursday and came home on Friday. I woke up on Saturday morning feeling great and thinkng this is going to be so great. Then the pain hit. I can't seem to figure out what is the right amount of liquid, thin, thick, to comsume to make the burning pit in my stomach go away. I have had diarhea since coming home also. I still think I made the right decision, I just want the pain to go away. My stomach is growling a lot but I can only consume so much liquid. If you have any suggestions, please let me know what they are.
  10. So how is it going after surgery? I had mine on 7/10. Don't seem to be getting the right amount of fluids in me. My stomach has an almost burning sensation all the time. Just taking it one day at a time. Good luck.

    Hello from Louisville Ky

I am so glad you all are doing so well. I had my surgery on July 10th @ Norton's and their practice is to spend the night and I'm glad I did. You all must be superwoman to come home so early. I had a good first night and half a day then the burning sensation in my stomach hit. I have been trying smaller amounts of thin liquids but the sensation is still there. I am not in any pain from the incision just this constant burning type sensation. I have to be off work for 4 weeks due to lifting restrictions and I am going to go out of my mind watching HGTV. I've tried to do stuff around the house but I really just don't feel like it. Good luck to all and keep in touch with how you are doing.
  12. Thanks for the encouragement. I haven't taken any pain meds since yesterday afternoon because that is when I started having pain. After the pain med and some blenderized potato soup (probably too thick). I don't have pain from the incisions just that burning type sensation in my stomach.
