  3. 3 years has passed since you registered at LapBandTalk! Happy 3rd Anniversary jakelmd!

  4. I guess I don't remember getting sick since having my LAP-BAND®®.... For the past 3-4 days, I have been fairly nauseated. Threw up the first day-- just salivia as I was empty. None since, but some dry heaves. At first I thought it was heat related, being the first warm day of the year; no chance of being pregnant. I am 9 days post-op for EYE surgery. I was prescribed Lor-Tab---the pill form of a pain reliever, and Halcyon for sleeping problems (don't know why--maybe a common problem post eye surgery...). When the nausea started, I was at least 4 hours after taking Lor-Tab and at least 14+ hours after taking Halcyon. Since it started I have weaned off both, and have been off those meds 24+ hours now. I don't know if the nausea is related to the eye surgery, a bug, the weather, my LAP-BAND®®, etc. I have a phone call into my LAP-BAND®® doctor, and I am seeing my eye doctor in 2 days for follow-up. My real questions are this: 1) what do you do about nausea, regardless of the reason for it? I don't really want to do crackers, and ginger-ale doesn't sound so great. An old pregnancy trick of sucking on hard candy works....but only while I am sucking on it, and even though the calories are few, I'm not really interested in doing that much sugar. Other tips for food, tea, meds, etc? 2) Are there other symptoms I should be watching out for related to LAP-BAND®®? I'm 2 years out and I don't know if slippage is an issue at this point. Is it? So far the only symptoms of note are really weird/bad dreams...which I blame on the halcyon and probably not related! thanks! --kelly (jakelmd-----but I'm NOT a doctor)
  5. I guess I don't remember being sick since my LAP-BAND®®..... For the past 3 days, I have been somewhat nauseated. Only threw-up once, the first day: only salivia since I was empty. At first seemed to be related to heat--first hot day of the year here; since, it comes and goes, and often happens while I am driving. I am 8 days post-op for eye surgery. Prescribed Lor-Tab---the pill variety, and seemed to have no problem; nausea first occurred after several hours without pain meds. Also prescribed halcyon for sleep post surgery; again, nausea was 12+ hours after the last does taken. since the nausea started, I have cut back on the pain meds. Took halcyon last night, but I'm going to get off that--weird dreams. No other symptoms like with the flu; no chance of being pregnant; no word from my LAP-BAND®® doc---I left a message though. Anyway: I guess my basic question is this: If I am experiencing nausea, what can I do to relieve it? Mint tea? particular meds? Particular food? (the idea of crackers is not appealing; ginger ale would probably not be good either). such an easy question, but for some reason, I am feeling stumped.....and wondering if LAP-BAND®® has any special requirements for garden variety nausea (assuming there is such a thing from a "bug" or assuming that it is not related to slippage since i have no other symptoms). thanks in advance!!
  6. I am new to the lapband online group. Hate to come on with a problem at the beginning, becuase I am doing well so far....until 4 days ago! My surgery was 5/27, and I guess I was getting a little too spunky, pushing the envelope....maybe even rebellious. anyway, Wednesday morning (7/9) I didn't make my usual Protein shake, instead got a fast food Breakfast sandwich and a smoothie. Major BP with the first two bites (eaten too quickly)---the sandwich went in the trash, but the smoothie was great. However, not enough (good) calories cuz after my walk at 9:30 a.m., I was really shaky. I ate some chunky chicken Soup, then glucerna (protein shake)......then about one hour later, I was still full but decided to have more soup so I could work-out at lunch. Major BP again (I think it was a chunk of chicken that did me in), and then I tried a bit of Water to help clear things, and more BP. I have been unable to eat anything since. On 7/10 I got .5 cc of my 2.5 ccs removed. On 7/11 I had the rest removed. The doctor says that because of the retching, my stomach has swelled, and that is why I can only drink tiny tiny sips of water or Gatorade. She thinks I will be back to Protein shakes by tomorrow, but I think it won't happen. I think in the past 3 1/2 days, I have had less than 500 calories and no protein at all. Amazingly, I am not yet dehydrated and have had very little in the way of hunger headaches. I have lost about 6-7 pounds though.... Great weight loss, but I never want to do this again!!!!!! So, has anyone had such a long period of of swelling or blackage? What helps make it go away? I appreciate your help!!! --kelly (jakelmd)
