You can do it. When I didn't think I could get through the first 2 days, everybody cheered me on and believed in me when even I didn't know if I could stick with it. I even gained 2 pounds the first day! But I will tell you what they told me. YOU CAN DO IT ! Yes the first 2 days are so incredibly hard. Just break it up into sections. Tell yourself you will just get to 10 o'clock. Then have some pudding or jello. Then say, "I've made it this far. I will try to get to lunch." Then the long afternoon looms ahead. Drink water. Eat cream soups or chocolate sugar free pudding. Before you know it it is dinnertime. Well, you've gone this far. You can make it throught the first day. You see what I'm saying? Then for the second day remind yourself that you did it yesterday, you only have to get throught today. One more day. I'm telling you it was crazy hard for me but by the next day I could fill restriction like I hadn't had in a few months. Granted, I'm hungry an hour and a half after I ate my turkey chili, which usually stays with me for hours. But I do know now that I need a fill. Sometimes I think I need a fill when I have just stretched my pouch. As far as the carb monster, I am still fighting him. I thought that the 5day pouch test would have rid that evil monster. I know that eventually it will pass but it hasn't yet. So I am chewing a lot of gum. I am drinking chocolate protein shakes with some peanut butter blended in. Maybe other bandsters have ideas how to deal with this difficult time until you get a fill. They sure have saved me a few times. Anyway, good luck. You can do it. Keep me posted.

Good luck everybody. You CAN do it. It will be hard, at least the first 2 days. But you just have to get through those two days. After that, the rest isn't nearly as hard. Go check out those protein shake recipes. They are great and really helpful. I got restriction back but have determined that I need a tiny fill. I get hungry an hour after I've eaten good, stay in the pouch protein. Hopefully that won't be the case for you. At least I know now for sure.

Thanks Gone4ever. What a great way to get in my protein. It does feel like I'm cheating, but I'm not ! Thank you!

Thankyou to everyone for all your support while I did this 5dpt. It was really hard and discouraging too. But so many people cheered me on. Guess what? I got on the scale this morning and lost five pounds! Thanks again for all your help. I really don't know if I would've stuck with this if not for all of your help.

Hi Isaviolinist. That peanut butter added in with chocolate unjury shake sounds fantastic. I am going to try that soon. Do you mix that up in a blender? Does the peanut butter stick to the blades? I know I probably sound like a duh, but it's better for me to know in advance if there are problems so I know what to do. Also, I have been interested in tofu but what the heck do you do with it ? Any suggestions are appreciated.

The water may be an issue for me. Over the last 2 days I have probably had only half what I am supposed to drink...32 ounces. Maybe that is it. You are so right about the "might as well eat this" attitude. I am so guilty of that. But not this time. I have really stuck with this 5dpt plan. That is why I was so freaked out. I did do everything I was supposed to do and gained weight the first day and then didn't lose anything the second day. I will really work at getting in 64 ouces of water. I didn't think it would make that big of a difference. I have lost over 100 pounds and most of the time I only drank 32 ounces of water a day. But there really isn't anything else I can try. Today should be easier as I get to eat Protein. Those first two days were hard! And it does feel like my pouch is tighter already. But I just can't get past the weight gain. Well, I will keep on keepin' on. I plan to swim today too. So thanks for all the ecouraging words.

Help! I know I shouldn't have weighed myself again but I did and not only did I not lose the 2 pounds I gained from the first day, but I didn't lose anything yesterday either. I just do not get it.Does anybody have any suggestions out there because I am seriously getting freaked out. And, no, it is not Aunt Flo. She hasn't visited in almost a year.

Hi Mary Beth. I was banded by Dr. Rossi in Peoria, IL also. He is a very good surgeon...not too much personality, but who cares, right? We got what we wanted...our band done by a very good doctor. I am so sorry for your troubles. Are you okay now? I hope so! Low carb is no fun, but I too have to go that route or I just don't lose as much weight. Good luck in all you do.

Know of Foods that Stay In The Pouch a Long Time?
slimmap replied to slimmap's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am having trouble because I am getting hungry within 2 hours or so. I try to be careful with the carbs as I have diabetes. Because of the lap band I no longer need to take medicine for it, but I have it all the same. There are so many threads for great recipes and foods, but I couldn't find any about foods that stay a long time in the pouch. maybe they are right in front of me and I just don't see it. -
Thanks Goneforever. I am just spazzing out I guess because I thought I would have spectacular results. I have to remember that I am doing this to hopefully shrink my pouch. And I only have to get through this day til I can have solid food again. Thanks again.

Today is Day 2 on the Pouch Test diet. I got on the scale and it said I gained 2 pounds! How can that be? I only took in 1100 calories? Plus I swam 22 laps. I was not happy. Plus I am hungry too. I know I am not supposed to weigh myself everyday but I thought I would be in for a good surprise. I was in for a surprise all right but not a good one. Well I will stick with this as today is the last day of liquids only. Is anybody else starving like I am? Well, good luck to all of you in this 5 day pouch test diet.

Did anybody feel a little nausea on the first day of the 5 day pouch test?

acid reflux at night...is this normal?
slimmap replied to juliatabor's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Juliatabor. I went through exactly what you are going through about one month ago. It started about 10 days after a fill. I'd had my band about one year when this started. More than likely you are getting that acid reflux. It was waking me up all night and I couldn't stop coughing. It was horrible. There are a few threads concerning this problem. I think they are located in the lap band fills section. Anyway, it is now gone after I had a slight unfill. It took about a week before the choking and coughing completely disappeared. Go see your doctor. Good luck. -
The Unjury protein shakes would never win any taste contests. They really need to work on improving the taste. But for absorbtion of protein, they are tops, at least that is what I've heard. That is why when I start this 5 day pouch test today, I will mostly drink that. If it gets too unbearable, I will probably have some sugar free chocolate pudding. I was happy to see that is allowed. This is going to be really hard, isn't it? But hopefully it will get me back to where I need to be as far as my pouch is. And thankyou Goneforever. You sound like a real sweetie. You are right. I have already figured out some of the people to stay away from. I do believe that they forgot that they obviously have had problems with eating and self control, or they wouldn't be here at this website! I just will have to remember so I don't make the same mistakes. Who knows? Maybe I have already hurt or insulted somebody and didn't even know I was doing it. That would be terrible. But it is probably just like you said... it doesn't read like it sounds in my head. That is so true. Anyway, thanks for the help and the kind words. I appreciate it and will try to pass it on today.

Thank you Goneforever. This thread is a lot nicer than other ones I went to. The last time I posted (after the 4th of July) I had people giving me all kinds of grief when I reached out for help cos I was eating too much. I couldn't believe it, as it was supposed to be for support! Oh well, I am here now and feel a lot better already. Thanks again. Also, I have been told by the dietician affiliated with my surgeon that Unjury is supposedly the best for protein powder. I asked why, as I had other brands of protein at home. She said something about how the body absorbs the protein, and that I should stick with the Unjury. It is filling and tastes all right, but I have tasted better ones. That's all I know about the protein powder.

Well, tomorrow is Thursday but that is when I am going to start the 5 day pouch diet.I did this about 6 months ago but don't really remember what I am supposed to do besides liquids only for the first 2 days. Can somebody tell me where I should look to find out exactly how to do this? And to Loving lapband living...thank you for getting this going. It is definitely whatI need. I strayed on the 4th of July and just have not been able to get back into what I should be doing. Hopefully I can succeed. As I recall, it was pretty difficult to do.

I was told warm/hot tea helps alleviate the tightness in throat in the morning. If nothing else, it sure feels soothing.

Okay, I have done a really stupid thing. I ate too much tonight. I ate waaay too much tonight. And now it hurts like crazy. I ate a big bowl of rice and then I had another. What can I do to relieve the pain until it stops. Could I cause a slip by doing this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know. It is hard when we "grow up" and find out that everything isn't as we believed it to be. Unfortunately, most bureaucracies are driven by the "almighty dollar", which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't mean that people get hurt. I guess all we can do is research, research, research. Whatever it is that we need to know about, research. Access to the internet can be had for free at the local library. I don't believe a lot of what I read and hear until I have checked it out. Ask questions. Even then there isn't any guarantee that I have the "absolute truth". But at least I have given it the best I have. Also, sometimes we just have to listen to what our gut feeling, or instinct tells us.

LindaD, I know a bit about walking through dark mazes and many frustrating dead ends. It sucked! Are you finding your way? Is there any "light"? Let me know because I have been there. I couldn'teven think further than just what needs to be done right now. I couldn't even deal with what comes next until next is here and then I dealt with it. I am hoping that things are a little better now? Do you have anybody who can help out even a little ?

Band to Sleeve, St. Marys Question???
slimmap replied to hefftynetty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't have any info about this, but I do wish you good luck. Let us know how you do. -
I did not say flour and sugar are a food group.
-
I wasn't talking about a food group, overall. I was talking about carb overall, such as fruits abd vegetables, and how many people think of them as starches only. The chocolate bar I talked about concerned only forbidden foods.
-
Jacqui, I have found out that what you say is true. People can't just eliminate an entire food group and think that it is healthy for the long haul. I also think that a lot of people hear the word "carbs" and they immediately think of starchy foods. Carbs are found in exceptionally healthy foods such as strawberries and blueberries I believe they have antioxidants), brocolli and green beans, whole grains, etc. For someone to not eat foods like the ones I just mentioned is probably not what the creators of lap band had in mind. And as for those forbidden foods...well I have to agree again with you. If I want some chocolate, I will have it. But I will probably buy a Hershey bar when I am with somebody who will either eat the other half or cheer me on when I throw the other half in the garbage. We just have to remember that we all want to grow very old and be healthy, too. We cannot do that if we don't put healthy foods in our bodies everyday, and exercise too.

Keith you made my night. You are hilarious! My sons are also keen on trivia...maybe they will go on a quiz show and win a lot of money. Funny that you mentioned Lou Gehrig. My youngest son wrote a report on him that has a star on it. It is front and center on the fridge, along with a mirror so that I can see myself when I open it. It is a visual aid that reminds me that my double chin is disappearing. Don't worry, I didn't think you implied that I am out of control with my eating. But last night when I ate that white rice, I certainly was. That is a very scary feeling, being out of control. That's why I started this thread. Usually I do a pretty good job of staying on the "straight and narrow" as far as this lap band goes. But I didn't last night and I didn't like it either. My family just made me crazy. By the way, I interviewed two people today for helping out my mom and dad. Hopefully this will relieve some of the stress so I can tend to my immediate family. Go to the wedding. Enjoy yourself. You sound like somebody who will do very, very well with the lap band. Chew gum if that helps. It helps me during times when I'd like to eat just because the food is there. (I do not care that I look like a cow chewing her cud). It keeps me on track. Well, my youngest son wants to be tucked into bed. I will not miss that for the world. Good night all. And thanks again Keith.
