  1. The way it was explained to me was that it doesn't matter if you lose weight on the 3 month supervised program or not, The initial weight that you are at consult is what goes on record. Then AETNA puts the clamps down on what they want to see occur first. It is more for them to see that there is a pattern for follow through and that you will stick with the diet and eating modifications after surgery. This band ain't a magic bullet and they don't want to pay for something that you aren't going to use as a tool to help you in your MODIFIED lifestyle. After visitin' with the rep from AETNA here in Oklahoma, thats was the skinny given to me (no pun intended there...)

    Submitted to Aetna Today

Submitted info to the surgeon, AETNA said 90 days (sounds better than saying 3 months...but whatever) on a medically supervised weight loss program. Hittin' the gym 3 or 4 times a week now until October...then gonna band it up. No biggie, already had been on a reduced calorie diet, so easy there with the nutritionist. Lovin' the workin out again, gettin excited for the end results after all is said and done. Your surgeon should have a knowledgeable staff that knows the insurance companies hoops to jump through. Just follow 'em to a T and it'll go down without a hitch. :cursing:

    I hate C-PAPs!

Well, you were scheduled for surgery on the 29th.... This might be a moot point now, but heres me two pieces of 'eight....(see avatar to understand that one...) I got diagnosed with severe sleep apnea after my band surgeon ordered the sleep study. I had no freakin idea that was happening to me, and what it causes the body to do. It isn't just to help you sleep, it is to help your bodys organs regenerate...you can read all about it on the 'net..If they say you need it go get it. I opted for the full face one, I couldn't take the nasal one, and I sleep like Rumplestiltskin now...feel fantastic all day long, metabolism increased, no more dozing off when behind boring drivers (just kiddin' there, but it CAN happen)... Anyhow, turned out was having 53 apneas per hour, each one lasting between 16 and 25 seconds. Yeah, lotta great sleep there. I am used to telling things blunt, so..if the doc orders it, go get it ...

    Reward when at goal

Couple of things. 1) Going to take my kid to Disneyworld and Universal Studios without the fear of not being able to ride with him 2) Take my wife on a cruise because of all I have put her through and for her being there for me. Do someting she really wants to do, because this whole lifestyle I have had has affected her as well, watching me balloon up and me not caring at the time. I can't imagine how that made her feel watching the person she married simply kill themselves like this and being powerless because I was too freakin' stubborn to care.. 3) Finally - get a Corvette. I have been on the lot so many times to get one, but physically entering and exiting the vehicle has shyed me away from it. I have always wanted one through my 20's and 30's, but because of my size, wasn't able to get one comfortably. So once I hit goal weight, thats the plan.
  5. My surgeon waqws concerned over the possibility of slippage, but i didn't want to go back to the extrenuous style of lifting I was doing before. I think I will be resilient enough to at least get started within a month or so...that is what I am hoping for. I have had enough :scared2: of this weight crap...Ready to get caught up to you :cursing:
  6. Fantastic write-up. I stand to lose 115 pounds after banding. I would always go in and work-out (lift weights) which only allowed me to carry more weight. My Lean muscle was comp'd at 74% with body fat at 26%...all in my stomach area...figures. I have started cardio training 3 times a week, hour and 15 minutes each session (treadmill, recumbent, and stairs/elliptical). I feel fantastic and my metbolism has finally woken up and I have lost 7 pounds just in the last two weeks. After banding, they have told me i can not do weight training for awhile. How did you manage to get cleared so fast for it?
  7. Hi there. I am in pre-surgery non-surgical weight loss status now. Through testing i have found out that I have diabetes Type-2 (beginning), elevated blood pressure, sleep apnea (severe, CPAP set at 13). All these things added up to some co-morbidities from years of neglect and not caring about anything until now. Avatar of my profile speaks as to why I am doing this. I can't stand the thought of him not having his dad around. So...time to get serious about this. Could use someone to be there to listen to issues that might come up and give me in-your-face advice, no sugar-coating. If you can be that person, and like to tell people like it is, then let's get this thing done. 'nuff said...
