amazon halo - what are you switching to
pintsizedmallrat replied to heatherdbby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my Apple Watch SE but I see you are an android user, so you'd have to jump the fence to an iPhone I believe to be able to use one. -
Weight Loss Patterns?
pintsizedmallrat replied to Bandedbut's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can tell you that if you menstruate, your weight loss can stall/stop/start based on where you are in your cycle. I almost always gained 2-3 pounds in the days leading up to it and would drop 4-5 when it was over. -
I love the Alani FitShakes (140 calories, 16g protein). They drink more like milk than a shake, and I hate the ones that are too thick. They're about the only ones I can stomach, and my husband HATES that kind of thing and even he likes them. They have a fruity cereal flavor that tastes like Froot Loops that is amazing!

Stall and it is awful!
pintsizedmallrat replied to Merri Beth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also experienced this, the last six months I think I lost 5-6 pounds a month. As long as your macros are in order and you're being honest when logging your food, stay the course! (It always helped me when I went through a stall to remember that this is giving my loose skin a chance to catch up, too. Every time I broke a stall my skin was tighter that it was before I stopped losing.) -
Pain question
pintsizedmallrat replied to sherrie918's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me about a week, week and a half. My main issue was moving wrong and getting a sharp stabbing pain in my side and it took me a few days to learn how to sit up/lie down without aggravating it. -
I work in an office that is 80% women (and based on your use of the term "annual leave" we probably work in a similar environment . I actually haven't dealt with a lot of invasive questions at all, a lot of people are basically just like "Looking good!" and leave it at that. What's funny is I had my surgery during the time we were 100% remote during the pandemic and I was 9 mos post op when I came back and had lost 120 pounds...I literally have had coworkers I worked closely with before we went out NOT RECOGNIZE ME AT ALL, especially with the mask on!

loose skin after gastric sleeve
pintsizedmallrat replied to John40's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have...SOME excess skin. I've lost almost 150 pounds (which, in my case, is over 60% of my previous body weight...and would probably be comparable to an average-height man losing closer to 200). It's mostly in my neck, and lower abdomen. The neck is really the only part that bothers me; I'm 40 and really don't have much interest in wearing a revealing bikini (although it's minimal enough I could probably do one of the high-waisted ones) but I can't really walk around covering my neck all the time, nor would I want to. All of it has tightened considerably since I've been attempting to maintain/losing more slowly. At one point I would have met the requirements for having insurance cover the panniculectomy but it's actually shrank back to a point where I no longer would. Look at it this way, though...if moms with stretch marks can wear them with pride as battle scars of what their body is capable of, we can do that too with our loose skin. We've overcome something most people aren't able to. -
loose skin after gastric sleeve
pintsizedmallrat replied to John40's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is 100% true. The extra skin in most cases is purely aesthetic and harmless; the excess weight could absolutely abbreviate your lifespan considerably. Do this to save your life, and don't worry as much about how you're going to look. -
How much hair did you lose after surgery and when was it noticeable?
pintsizedmallrat replied to longhaul68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery in September 2021, and my hair started falling out pretty bad around Christmas of that year. I do want to add that I got REALLY stick in late November and was really struggling with keeping mysel fed the first few months. I lost probably 50-75% of my hair, and I am a fair-skinned brunette so it was VERY noticeable. I ended up cutting it extremely short (think Winona Ryder in Girl, Interrupted) to save my plumbing and vacuum. It started growing back around March 2022. I supplemented with collagen and extra-strength biotin gummies. Before my surgery, my hair was thinning anyway due to probable PCOS and it is actually much thicker and healthier than it was before it all fell out. It's already past my shoulders again! -
Pre-op diet and no longer hungry?

I don't know but if this person posts any links I wouldn't click on them. -
Gotta get my head right
pintsizedmallrat replied to jessridge's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It sounds like you might need some physical activity both for your mental and physical well-being. I have a desk job as well and boredom can be the enemy of weight loss. Do you think you could carve out 30 minutes a day to take a walk or something along those lines? My recommendation for snacks is if you must have something, maybe something that's mostly water like cucumbers, strawberries, or melon? They're basically all fiber so they will stick with you. -
Loss of weight has not helped me feel more confident
pintsizedmallrat replied to Khappy77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I find your issues with attention very relatable; I am happily married (and demisexual) and the attention is absolutely unwanted. There are times I wish I could zip my fat back on when I go out alone. -
Pre-op diet and no longer hungry?
pintsizedmallrat replied to LindsayT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's the lack of carbs; you're off the blood sugar roller coaster. You probably won't feel hungry much. -
Favorite Vitamins?
pintsizedmallrat replied to longhaul68's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are some chewy/chewable Calcium Citrate products out there but I'm fairly sure most of the pills meant to be swallowed will be a similar size. -
Favorite Vitamins?
pintsizedmallrat replied to longhaul68's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I use the Bariatric Advantage "chewy bites" for both my multivitamin and calcium (they're the "starburst" texture ones you were referring to). I take BariMelts Iron + C for iron; they are a dissolving tablet and while they don't taste great they seem to be one of the only iron supplements that don't upset my stomach. I would say as far as absorption, anything formulated for bariatric patients would probably be best. -
My hair started falling out around the 4-month mark, too.. I had a pretty rough go of it in the beginning as well. At its worse, I had lost 75% of my hair and it stopped falling out by around month 6. I took supplements and collagen during that period of time and now it is growing like a weed (and it came back in CURLY!)

There are a few brands of "cheese crisps" that are basically cheese that has been baked or freeze-dried to resemble a chip/crisp (I know we have a lot of people from all over so I'm saying it's a crispy, thin thing like the US calls "chips"). They're made of just cheese and seasonings so they don't have any carbs to speak of and have a little protein and I find them much more appealing than the "protein chips" which I feel have a really off-putting texture. The bag is generally small and purse-sized as well. I know one brand of that sort of thing is "Moon Cheese" and they sell them in the snack section at Starbucks but there are several brands out there. Taco Bell was even making spicy ones for a bit that I got at the grocery store.

Scalp itchiness - side effect?
pintsizedmallrat replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be due to the decreased fat in your diet. I know a lot of us complain about dry skin in general. -
I would really try to adjust your behaviors with this; it's going to be more beneficial in the long run to disconnect the association you have between watching movies and eating. (and that goes for anything; I had to temporarily quit drinking in bars way back when because I wanted to quit smoking and that was one of my "triggers"). If it were me, if the theater has a Coke Freestyle machine with no-sugar, non carbonated options I would get something that fits that criteria in the largest size they have and spend the movie catching up on your hydration. If not, I'd probably get a big cup of ice water and put some powdered or liquid sugar free drink mix in it if water isn't your thing.

Calories 1 year post op
pintsizedmallrat replied to Kimmym0108's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
At a year out I was still eating about 1000 calories but I want to echo what @Smanky said that this has a lot to do with your height, current weight, goal weight, biological sex, and your activity level and will be different for everyone. I am personally a 4'10" woman with a medium activity level, so obviously if you're taller, a man, more active, etc you need more than that. -
No, I have a sleeve. I'm just unfortunately one of the 5% or so of us that dumps like an RNY patient.

In my case, a lot of the foods I occasionally miss are ones that give me nearly instant, really unpleasant issues (sugar, alcohol, bread, pasta, potatoes are mostly the ones I can't tolerate STILL, even at 19 months out!)...so in a way a lot of that resolved itself because it's like aversion therapy. Every time I start sizing up a cookie, I remember fainting the last time I ate one and that definitely keeps me away LOL.

Everything tastes bad - EVERYTHING
pintsizedmallrat replied to ShannonMae9's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG that apple Dannon yogurt and cottage cheese were about the only things keeping me alive at that point in my recovery, I absolutely was having the same problem OP is. (The good news is, it gets better!) -
Best protein bar?
pintsizedmallrat replied to loridee11's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I like the Alani bars and the Robert Irvine FitCrunch bars...but that second one comes with a caveat that the bars are sold in two different sizes ("snack size" which are about 190 calories and the full sized one which are intended to be a true meal replacement for people with typical stomachs. The full sized ones are nearly 400 calories and probably too large for anyone in here to finish, so if you order them online make sure they're the snack size!) -
Getting frustrated
pintsizedmallrat replied to Quetta89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think if we had a poll on here more of us probably stalled around the 3 mark than ones who didn't. It's normal, stay the course, you're not broken you just put your body through a load of trauma and it needs to heal.
