Waist training anyone?
pintsizedmallrat replied to MsTeeTee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would be concerned that would exacerbate any acid reflux you may encounter by squeezing your middle like that. -
Anyone starting out around 225lbs?
pintsizedmallrat replied to Tammy Monette's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I weighed 220 on the day of my surgery and am an inch shorter than you, so yes. I have struggled with feeling like I've ended up "too thin", but it's been due to a combination of complications from the surgery itself and some unrelated medical issues as well. My goal weight was 110, I was happy at 105, and ended up at a low of 91 when I was at my sickest a few months ago (a few pounds underweight for someone my height). Most people start to feel their restriction loosen at around the year-two year mark. I'm 22 months out and have only just started to feel like I can eat a bit more, and I'm simultaneously relieved and afraid because now it's up to me and my self-discipline to maintain. -
Eating too much 6 days post op RNY
pintsizedmallrat replied to lolyschmoney's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
They have plenty of sweets and junk overseas, don't you worry about that. If their diets were perfect they wouldn't need to offer surgeries like this "over there" because no one would be heavy. -
I was having problems with dairy at that point too...I ate a lot of refried beans and spoonfuls of hummus and peanut butter, and there are non-dairy yogurts out there but please look at the labels, a lot of them don't have much protein compared to their dairy counterparts.

Not Allowed To Gain Weight
pintsizedmallrat replied to ChunkCat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pickles are great for that; not many calories, pretty filling, so once the salt washes out it's a net loss! -
I eat it occasionally when I want pasta, because it is a *better* choice, but it is still pasta. It may help if you try to load your bowl with about half veggies and treat the pasta as a "topping" vs the base for the dish. I do that with mushrooms, broccoli, etc throw some alfredo sauce on it, and maybe 1 serving of (cooked) pasta for my husband AND I (and he eats about 2/3 of the amount I make, he hasn't had the surgery yet), sprinkle a little cheese on top and bake it in the oven. You still get your pasta "fix" but not as much. I'm almost 2 years post op, and 15 pounds BELOW my goal weight, before anyone comes for me telling me how fat I'm going to get again. (YMMV, but that's how I've incorporated it into my diet).

If you like Body Armor and need the potassium, I can also recommend Prime Hydration (the ones in the BOTTLES, the cans are an energy drink). It has about the same amount of potassium as Body Armor and I think they taste great, especially the lemonade when I can find it. -
Gee why didn't I think of that!

This journey sort of requires you have to stop caring what other people think or you and your choices. We've all got a path to walk; some of us are good at staying on theirs and others feel like they've got to get in the middle of yours and pretend every choice they've made is perfect. Giving advice like, oh you just need to walk more, is condescending. -
However much you think you need, you probably won't use half of it. All you're going to want to do is sleep.

Alcohol consumption

I waited six months, make sure you're wherever you're ending up for the evening when you try it. Guaranteed it's going to smack you pretty hard the first time. -
One last hurrah?
pintsizedmallrat replied to MsTeeTee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the night before I started my pre-op diet, I had three sushi rolls and a Hendricks gin and tonic. Zero regrets. It was delicious. -
My hair started falling out 3 months in, grew back, and now it's falling out again (due to some non-surgery related health issues.). I feel your pain, and it will come back. I like to joke I had to trade my boobs and hair for a healthy body, which I suppose is a fair trade but it was very upsetting to go through!

At this stage you might almost be better off with a hearty thick black bean soup vs a burger, if you're craving beans. You could use almost all the same ingredients that would go into the burger.

How did you select your goal weight?
pintsizedmallrat replied to Sigh's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My goal weight shifted a few times. I want to preface all of this by stating I am very short statured, so these numbers are going to sound extremely low. I had a BMI of 46 when I started the process and weighed 245 pounds. I chose 120 at first, then found out I would still be considered overweight, so I lowered it to 110, which is dead-center of a healthy weight range according to the BMI scale. Ironically my posture has improved since my surgery and I am an inch taller now, and 120 would have been fine all along (for a woman my size it's between 94 and 124 pounds). -
It has helped me tremendously on my journey to think of anything with calories as food, even if it's a liquid. Water, sugar free sports drinks, plain tea, black coffee, etc are beverages. Milk, juice, etc, in my world are SNACKS and are treated and logged as such.

Anyone else get cold easier? (And intro)
pintsizedmallrat replied to BranD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Between the weight loss itself and the drop in my blood pressure, I am constantly freezing. -

As I've seen said on here before, the most important weight loss tool you have is between your ears. -
Scar Tissue From Previous Abdominal Surgeries
pintsizedmallrat replied to Midwest Grateful's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Prior to my sleeve surgery, I had two exploratory surgeries for endometriosis and my gall bladder removed, so a total of 3 abdominal surgeries. No one at my surgeon's office seemed concerned about it and it was barely mentioned. -
If she is concerned she should discuss that with her doctor. Unless she has some special concerns about her skin that aren't being said here (such as a dermatological condition), loose skin is not generally harmful. It's primarily an aesthetic concern. Most of the time, the worst thing it will do to you is make you self-conscious.

Melatonin is probably safer than most of the alternatives (especially since at 6 days out you're probably still on painkillers), but as everyone else said, if you're concerned enough about it to be asking us this really needs to be being asked of your treatment team.

Safe for her to leave what exactly? The house? Loose skin isn't going to harm her unless it's causing rashes or some kind of infection.

Is it dumping or just upset stomach
pintsizedmallrat replied to Miss Sunshine P's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dumping can make you feel faint, weak, loopy, can cause your heart to race and even cause you to faint...if it's just diarrhea it's probably something that's a little less severe than that. Are you six months out or are you 15 weeks out? At 15 weeks, beef may be more than you can handle. At that time, I was making chili at home with ground turkey which was much easier to digest. -
I'm 22 months post op...and my hair started falling out again. I've been sick since February with what they finally determined is sarcoidosis, which means I have to be on steroids for probably the next 6-12 months. Luckily, it's not making me gain weight, in fact it's making me lose more. Prednisone can cause hair loss, and I know I'm not eating enough, but it's really hard for me to do so. I had to stop taking calcium during my treatment. There's just so many factors causing this and I don't know what to do other than just ride it out and get a new collection of hats and bandanas. I don't really want to wear a wig, I ride a motorcycle and I can't exactly stuff a wig under a helmet, and all I can imagine is how hot and itchy it's going to be. After the first time it happened, at the normal time most people experience it, 3-4 months after my surgery it came right back a couple months later, thicker and healthier than ever...but I'm not healthy right now, and my hair is letting me know. The hair loss might actually be WORSE this time. I don't know that I'm looking for advice, but I'm just screaming and sobbing into the void right now. I thought I was done with this but here we are again.
