    Eating carbs

I ate chicken soup with noodles in when I was about where you are and it seemed like just the noodles irritated my stomach.

wait 3 months to eat carbs?!

For the first several months, follow your plan from your doctor and as your diet expands, pay attention to what works for YOU...first of all, there's no way of knowing if what this girl on TikTok was describing is true or accurate (for all you know she took two bites, or even spit them into the trash between shots). There's a phrase used in the motorcycle community that applies here: "Ride Your Ride" meaning ultimately, you are responsible for you and only you, and you need to take care of yourself. There's a lot of lousy advice and lousy examples out there. Proceed slowly and adjust based on how your own individual, personal system reacts.
  3. I am 40, I've lost more than half my previous body weight (231 lbs to 109), and was carrying a LOT of weight in my chin. I almost looked like I had a goiter it was so bad. My skin tends to go in spells, I am essentially "done" actively losing weight and am in maintenance now, and I found that when I stalled my skin would catch back up, and then I'd lose more and it would look saggy. While I don't think I'm ever going to look as good as if I had never been fat, I'm hoping that now that I'm basically going to stay put, it will get to a point where I am no longer self conscious about it and won't need to have surgery. My belly, though...that's a different story, unfortunately. I look like a deflated balloon.
  4. Account for it--I usually leave myself around 200 calories for "evening snacks", and it's worked out very well for me. Never eat out of the bag/box unless it's single-serving. Measure EVERYTHING and only put the amount you are comfortable eating in front of you. Depending on the nature of your snacking it also may help to pre-prepare a few "safe" things for in the evening (sliced vegetables, maybe some kind of low carb "snack box" if you're extra like that).

    Sugar free situation!!

I really liked turkey meatballs at that stage. You can do homemade ones (which might be preferable, you absolutely can make them without breadcrumbs in them for NO carbs), or you can buy them in a bag but get quality ones that aren't all filler. An advantage to making your own is you can control how they're seasoned (I made "gyro seasoned" ones and dipped them in tzaziki sauce, for a dollop of extra protein because it was made with greek yogurt...they were actually really good cold in a packed lunch, even). You could do ground chicken with taco seasoning and dip them in salsa. Endless possibilities.

    Stalls and weight gain

Muscle weighs more than fat; you could be gaining muscle with the walking. Also, if you menstruate, your weight fluctuations can follow your cycle with retaining water, etc. I literally once gained two pounds from eating PICKLES because they made me retain water like you wouldn't believe.
  7. As far as water bottles, the Simple Modern ones at Walmart are very affordable and keep ice cold for --no exaggeration-- about 48 hours. (They do have a "straw top" so I hope that doesn't get me burned at the stake...I don't have any issues with straws but I'm 14m post op). I believe the straw can be removed so it's just a spout, though. I really like Alani shakes, they have a thinner texture and drink more like a beverage. I just don't like "thick" protein shakes and never have. As far as low-sugar drinks, most of what I consume is either the "flavored" SmartWater (NOT Vitaminwater, but the ones that are like a "still" LaCroix that has flavoring and no sweetener), Propel, Body Armor Lyte and Prime Hydration (and water, of course). I believe the Prime Hydration drinks have a couple carbs per bottle but they do not taste "diety" at all and are made with coconut water so they taste lovely and are great on a hot day when you've been sweating a lot. I also do a lot of the "liquid drink enhancer" in water (Mio, etc).

    Shirt size

Don't do what I did and invest a ton of money into clothes before you hit your goal weight...20-30 more pounds can make a huge difference on a smaller body, and now I have a whole box of clothes I bought at "in-between" sizes that are falling off of me. I went from a 3X to an XS in a year.

    Covid Testing Prior to surgery

Probably...but look at this way, IF you got it, you could cough so hard you could do permanent, serious damage to your abdomen. It's better to be safe than sorry. I've had it twice and the first time was in Feb 2020 when there was no vaccine and I was coughing so hard I was making myself throw up and pee my pants. Believe me, you do not want to be coughing like that with fresh incisions inside and out.

    Mango juice?

I don't know of any plan that is going to allow whole fruit *one week after surgery*. I personally wasn't allowed to eat fruit for 3 months.

Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?

Every body is different, and everybody is different. My perception of the fat acceptance movement is that it's up to the individual to dictate what size they are comfortable at, and no one else's. I support this sentiment. This may be an unpopular take, but I don't think that the rules that we apply to classify one person as "overweight" and one person as "normal" are universal. While I do think when we start talking about people who are 100, 200 pounds overweight, there's likely health issues involved, but someone who's 50 pounds overweight may have NO health issues relating to their weight, may be physically active, and can be happy at that size...but that same person is probably getting a lot of crap from their doctor about it, or their family, or their "friends". Some people have bigger frames than others, some people have a lot of muscle. The number for "I feel good and I feel good about myself" may be higher than the one-size-fits-all BMI scale says it "should" be. I didn't realize when I was heavier how small of a frame I was hiding under all the weight I was carrying, and I have reached a "normal" BMI. But by the time I had reached "overweight" status, my blood pressure and cholesterol had returned to normal and my sleep apnea disappeared. I don't think the person I was six months ago deserved to be treated like a freak of nature by doctors OR the general public, but she was.

    Struggling

I remember telling my husband about two weeks post-op, that I didn't feel like I was losing weight, I felt like I was wasting away. It WILL get better, it is very common for people at your stage of the diet to feel not-great and even regret the surgery. One day soon that will change.

    Thanksgiving 🦃

Reasonably sized portions of anything that will agree with me, basically. I'm 14 months post op, and about the only things my sleeve doesn't seem to tolerate is potatoes, pasta, bread, and rice (and apples...WTH). I'm probably going to mainly have turkey but a small spoonful of stuffing will be hard to resist.

    Food confusion

To illustrate everyone's point about every surgeon's plan being different, I was ONLY allowed liquids for 3 weeks after my surgery.
  15. pintsizedmallrat

    Mango juice?

In most cases, yes, however depending on the surgery you had and your own personal tolerances it may have too much sugar, and you may want to water it down.
  16. Glad I wasn't the only one confused. Sure, you may lose 20-30 pounds per leg, but you're probably not going to look the way you're hoping in jeans..

    Bariatric friendly alcoholic drinks?

I've started trying to get accustomed to just drinking some sort of spirit or liqueur on the rocks...I was a gin and tonic gal before and while I know many of you are able to handle bubbles eventually, I'm a year out and they still give me the ick, so no more. I find that I don't tend to drink the stronger stuff as fast and it tends to get watered down by the ice. LOTS OF ICE.

    Beware The Coffee Creamer Pipeline

I don't know that I agree that using sugar free creamer is an automatic one-way trip back to Fattown. However, ANYTHING you consume that is a) easy to use much more of than you realize or b) previously didn't consider to be caloric or worth logging, can make you gain weight. Know what your limits and capabilities are, and if it's too much temptation, don't. At the risk of inciting the "I only eat 'real food'" crowd, I drink sugar free creamer every day, but it's measured and logged like anything else. I use 30 calories' worth, and I know that because I measure it. TL;DR I don't think it's the creamer, it could be anything you don't consider to be "food". You could easily make the same mistake with condiments, salad dressing, cooking oil, butter, or anything else. If it has calories, measure and log it.

I know it's normal, but it's still SUPER annoying!!

I lost about 75% of my hair between months 2 and 4. You could see my scalp. I ended up cutting it VERY short (somewhere between a buzz cut and a pixie cut) to save my vacuum and plumbing.

    Vitamins required or not?

The only thing I am deficient in is iron and calcium--I supplement both of those. Keep in mind if you menstruate, you may always need iron supplementation due to the reduced intake, but everyone will be different. I was anemic before my surgery so YMMV.
  21. I want to preface this by saying I am a really small person (4'10") with a small frame, but I eat between 800 and 1000 calories to lose; my maintenance calories will be between 1200 and 1500.

    Serving Sizes

That's going to be highly individualized. I'm 13 months post op and I'm not sure I could eat two eggs in one sitting.
  23. Even if you wanted it as OP says "right away", I don't think there's a doctor anywhere who's going to look at someone freshly out of bariatric surgery and even consider doing lipo.
  24. At least one person in this thread thinks it's called a Ruen-Y, and sometimes people Google things they see on these pages because they'd rather do that than ask and seem like a newbie, so I wanted to make sure the proper spelling appeared further downthread. I'm glad you (and many of the rest of us) know that.

    High Fiber Food

If this is to "keep things moving", so to speak, you might benefit from consuming probiotics (either in capsule form or in something like yogurt.). I eat a ton of salads that have lots of fiber and I still had issues and eating a small yogurt every morning has helped a lot.
