What foods have you broken up with?
Edge13 replied to Smanky's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Most surprising for me is how I've taken to Splenda. Never liked it before, and now it tastes ok. Sugar makes me feel like I tasted engine oil. Chicken is off the menu. Lime and super spicy is on the menu. I stuff peppadew peppers with kalamata olives, great snack. Oatmeal is most definitely on the menu, and prior to surgery I was meh about it. I don't eat seafood, and never liked sushi, but now I enjoy the veggie rolls. My outside food is wonton egg drop soup. -
Water and Protein Intake

I did the 2 ounces cups. Lined up 4, 3 with water, and 1 with protein shake. Drank 1 every 15 minutes on a timer. -

Talk with your team, because you'll be starting pre-op diet shortly. See if they're ok with that. -
Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?
Edge13 replied to doobie31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was in a similar situation as you. 47 years old, 340 lbs (down from 400+), and doing a physical job, playing basketball still, and enjoying life. Then the dreaded D word came up, and I'd seen the diabetic story play out too many times. WLS immediately went from the back of my mind to it's happening. I picked the brain of a friend who'd had it, lurked on forums like this, and had 2 notebook pages of questions for my surgeon, and dietician. To answer your question, the liver shrinking diet prior to surgery tested my soul. Followed that up with the 3 week liquid diet post surgery. Was more bored than anything. Soft foods, on it now, and it's not hard, and extremely satisfying. Not only will you live on fewer calories, but with the proper preparation, the right mindset, and a good support system, you'll thrive. -
3 weeks they put me on soft food, and I could eat all the foods on the list. Now I'm 6 weeks out, and I can only do oatmeal, and cheeses. I started having problems keeping other things down. I do good with vegetables. Any meat I have problems with. So I can't eat 2 oz if ground turkey, but I can do like 1 spoon of it, and then some soft squash.

Whoa. Was told about dumping. Never ever heard of foamies. Just googled it. Ew. Now I'm worried, because I've had scrambled eggs, and chicken. Definitely need to be more careful.

I had my gastric bypass on September 13th, and have been doing decent since then. We actually weren't sure if I'd have a bypass, or sleeve, until I was KO'd and on the table. That was due to mesh and scar tissue from a few previous hernia surgeries in the area. I am enjoying trying the items on the soft foods list. The surprise so far is cottage cheese. All my life I hated it, and suddenly it's the best tasting thing ever.

I moved to soft foods yesterday. First thing I had was 2 slices of rotisserie chicken deli meat, wrapped around cheese, with just a touch of hummus. Also had some mashed black beans. Today I had a bit of tuna salad, a scrambled egg (could only eat about half), and cottage cheese. So far everything is fine.
