Looking to talk w/ someone similiar to me
jazie replied to Brettalyn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have all the things that you do. I took 2 Byetta shots a day, 1 of Levemir, 100 mg of Januvia besides all the rest for the other things you mentioned. The day before my surgery my band Dr. took me off all Byetta, Then a couple weeks after I went, my Dr. brought me down to 50 Januvia. So now it is 40 of Levemir. Hopefully in a few more months I will be off all diabetes meds. High Blood pressure runs in my family so I don't mind that. My biggest accomplishment was getting off the Byetta. How I lived with those side effects for a year, I just don't know. My Dr did tell me that Gastric Bypass will eliminate diabetes, but band may only reduce it. I am thinking positive. My goal is to be off all diabetes meds in 6 months. Had my band on July 1st and I have lost 42 lbs. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I did have to have a little surgery yesterday. My port was tilted and dr had to reposition it. He said 2 sutures on one side had come loose. No one knows why, but I will not exercise hard for 8 weeks. I will only walk and that is after a couple of weeks. -
Don't sit and wait for this to happen. My dr was puzzeled also. He didn't tell me this was his only one to have to do, but judging by his words and his staff, I don't think he has had another case. I was #1172 of band patients for him. So it must be pretty rare.

I will be having surgery tomorrow to put my port back where it should be. For some reason it has flipped around backwards. When I went in for 3rd fill, dr found out it was reversed. I really wonder if it is more than that. I had some restriction after 2nd fill but now I have none. I will wait to exercise for a little longer, but I was told it could be because the sutures for the port could have been the disolving ones, and now maybe they need to be regular sutures. If anyone has thoughts on this please let me know. I will tell my dr about the sutures, I am not sure what kind he used but I definately don't him to replace them with the disolve kind. Thanks for your thoughts jazie

I am thinking it will pay. Not really sure though. My ins. covers 100% after 650 out of pocket and I am way above that. It all happened so quickly, I didn't ask questions. I will call my dr tomorrow and find out more about it and let you know. jazie

Had my surgery today. All went well. The dr said that 2 sides of the 4 sutures were undone. I still dont know how that happened. I will see him in 2 weeks, if not before. And maybe he will have an idea about it. Actually, the worse thing is going back to clear liquids. I was in surgery a total of 30 minutes. And a little sore after I rode 40 miles home but feel good tonight. jazie

No symptoms, the dr could just not do a fill. I could hear the needle hitting the back side of the port. Have to be at hospital at 6 am so I will let you know the outcome. Another person told me it was very minor surgery. Be back tonight. jazie

Type II Diabetes Management after surgery
jazie replied to molinomama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have type 2 and immediately after surgery, I was taken off Byetta. I took a Byetta injection twice a day. I take 1 Levemir injection, and Januvia 100 once a day.I now take 50 Levemir once a day, and went down from 100 to 50 Januvia. Just getting off Byetta was worth the band surgery. I have lost 42lbs since July 1st. I expect to keep lowering my meds until I am off all of them. I know I will always be on high blood pressure meds I have been on them since I was a young woman and when I was slim. Can't remember those days too well now. Good luck! Jazie -
I went for my third fill yesterday and my Dr. could not do it. He said my port had flipped and the back of it was facing front. Now I have to go back to the hospital and have it repositioned. I have no idea what caused the port to do this. He asked if I had lifted anything heavy, but I can't remember doing anything like that. I do remember when I first started riding my stationary bike, I could feel the port but it never hurt or felt like it was tearing. I waited until he said I could do it to start riding. Maybe, it just was not supposed to be there. My first two fills were very easy and no problem. I was just wondering if anyone had this problem and did you ever find out the reason for it. I am scheduled for the surgery on Thursday so I will let you know how it turns out. jazie

What Kind of Soup Are U Eating During The Mushie Stage?
jazie replied to speck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made potato soup. Just cook it until the potatoes fall apart. I am not sure if your Dr. would approve but I had no trouble with it. You could put broth in it and give it a different taste. Good luck. jazie -
Gosh! How great. I have ordered from Lands End alot. I love their bathing suits. They last great for water aerobics. When I get into the smaller clothes, I will definitely order from them again. Thanks for the info. jazie

Lost my carving for carbs have you?
jazie replied to Renob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definetly lost mine. I am like you, bread was my downfall. I was banded on 7/01/08 and have not had bread, rice or pasta. Three things that I love, and I really don't miss it or crave it. Great to know we can live without all the carbs. Also, I have cut my diabetes meds by 2/3. I expect soon it will be cut even more. -
Someone on here said they were told by the er room to take extra virgin olive oil. Haven't had to try it yet, but I will get some to have here for emergencies.

My First Consult Now I'm Confused!!
jazie replied to slynclark's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I chose the band because at one of my early visits with the doctor, my DIL came with me. We were both undecided about which procedure to have, but my husband was really against the GB because I was told that I would be at greater risk because of my age and a few other things. I chose the Band and DIL chose the GB. We are both thrilled with the choices we made. I am 2 months out and 33lbs lighter. She is 2 weeks out and 20lbs lighter. Just keep researching and this board will help you come to your decision. Good luck! jazie -
I would call it more of a booklet. My dr gave it to me on my first visit. I am not sure you can get it anywhere else. It is called "Living with the Lapband" Jazie

Thank you for sharing that. Not all husbands are that supportive. I always thought I was so lucky because my husband of 44 years is so supportive, but I can't see him saying something like that! That is Great! Keep the good thoughts. jazie

I am just afraid of not losing if I eat anything. I feel I have to eat only diet things. At least fat free and sugar free. Maybe when my restriction is right I will be able to eat a little of what I want. I haven't even tried bread rice or Pasta. I PBed once on meat, but I don't think it was the food, it was the speed I was eating. jazie

Thank you for thinking of us. I live in the SW corner and it looks like we may miss it if the eye does not follow the coast. We had Rita one month after Katrina and it was devastating. We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. Jazie

I am curious about this also. I love raw veggies but did not think about putting them in a blender. I want to see what the others have to say about this.

My Dr., Keith Chung from Lake Charles La. only required 2 weeks also. I found the second week the hardest. but I stuck it out.. Hang in there, it is worth it.

Self pay for surgery but Insurance covered fills?
jazie replied to vkcse03's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just called my insurance to see what the procedure was for the fills. My dr says most insurance don't cover fills, but mine covered the surgery and will pay 80% on the fills which are $125. I am very happy with that. With the new year comes deductibles again, but I will sell something if I have to. I am determined for this to work Jazie -
Hang in there and don't let them talk you out of it. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am only 7 weeks out but I feel sooo! much better. I have lost 29 lbs but just the encouragment of my family and friends makes it worth it. I think losing it gradually will be just what I need. We are all pulling for you. Jazie

Anyone W/Diabetes/Low Sugar Problems Post-Op
jazie replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am diabetic. My lapband dr took me off my 2 Byetta injections daily, just before my surgery, and when I went to my regular dr he cut the Januvia in half. I now take 50 m of insulin daily and 50 m of Januvia. My sugar has been below 100 ever since the lapband surgery. It has never gone too low. I think when I go back for the next A1C I will be cut back on some of what I still take. Just don't go too long without eating. I am 7 weeks out of surgery. Had it on July 1st. Some people on this site said it took as long as a year too get off all diabetic meds but she had finally done it. I can't wait. That is really the reason I really wanted to have this done. If I feel a little weak, I just eat something. Even sugar free works. Hope all works out for you. Good luck. Jazie -
Hair loss!!!!!!!!need help!!!!!
jazie replied to JerseyGirl2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can someone tell us what is Biotin. Do you get it at GNC or where? I want to do what I can to keep what I have. Thanks guys, -
I really think it depends on your doctor. Mine was 1 month after surgery and my 2nd was 1 month after that. My dr said to call when I feel I need another one.

Good restriction - or not? Help me to know...
jazie replied to Lisa65's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't give you an answer because you have been banded longer than me. Mine was on July 1 08. I am interested in your answers also. I have only had 2 fills, and the last one today. I am sure someone can help you.
