Could someone please explain to me how to do the 5 day pouch test again? I have read it before but now I am ready to try it. Went on vacation and now I need to get back on this again. Even though I really tried to stay on my new way of eating, I cheated with some sandwiches. I don't want to let this go on so I thought I would try this if someone can fill me in again. Thanks, jazie

Yes, that was it! I am wondering if it will work for Lapband patients also. Someone at my support meeting was telling us about it. She had Gastric Sleeve, but it seems it would work for all types of surgery. I will try to find out a little more and let you know. Thanks for the site. jazie

I just thought of something.....

That is a relief to hear that. I could just imagine the band slipping before you could do anything. jazie -

I am interested also. I recently started taking this natural bacteria pill to try to ward any flu bug off. jazie -
Sorry, I am not your age I am older. I am 63, and you CAN talk to me. Had my surgery 7/01/08. So far lost 44 lbs. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Hope to hear from you again. jazie

Lively senior citizen looking for answers
jazie replied to janny02's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 63 and had the band on July 1st 08. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I have lost 42 lbs and I am happy about it. Had to have cataract surgery so my exercise was on hold for a while, but I am back at it. I am walking now. I lose a lot better if I exercise. Don't look back, you will feel so much better. jazie -
I had no idea mine had flipped, until I went for a 3rd fill. The only thing I can think that I did was right after Hurricane Ike, I went to help our local grocer clean the mud out of his store like a lot of other people here that were fortunate enough not to get flooded. When I bent down to clean the bottom shelf, I felt a pain in the port area. I did not think it was enough to tear the port loose, but that is the only time I ever felt a pain like that. The dr doesn't even know, but I will take responsibility this time, but I have been extra careful since the 2nd surgery. If it happens again maybe the muscle is just not strong enough to hold. If that is the case, I will talk to him about the sleeve. jazie

I had to have mine repositioned. One side had torn off the muscle and flipped around. When he went back in he put a lot of stitches and I could feel it was a lot tighter. The surgery was just about the same as the first one. With the same restrictions. I haven't had a fill since, so he won't know if it is positioned right until the end of this month when I go in for another fill. We don't know what caused it, I was the first he had to do this to. I was when I was about 11 weeks out. jazie

My dr also said Miralax. I tried it for a few days but no luck. Now I am eating Shredded Wheat AND taking Miralax and it is doing wonders. The only thing is that the shredded wheat has 40 carbs. For a while I will have to deal with the trade off. Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon. I am almost 4 months out. jazie

Hair loss after surgery?
jazie replied to willowcrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried the Biotin, but had mega side effects. Maybe I started off with too much. I think it was Biotin 5000. Should I be taking a small dose to begin? Thanks, jazie -
What's up with the Psychologist appt????
jazie replied to wintobethin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I talked to the psychologist for maybe 15 minutes. The rest was answering questions on paper. I think he was looking to see if maybe I wanted the band for the wrong reasons. I am not sure what they would be but maybe to see if you are stable enough to make your own decision about having the surgery. Anyway, all went well and I now am banded. jazie -
I will vote with dperson. I do water aerobics and it is so good for arthritis. It will actually make your pains go away. I have done it for 8 years and when I miss a week I hurt again. Great exercise! jazie

Hi, I am from Hackberry and Dr Chung did my surgery also. July 1, 08. So far lost 42 lbs. Do you go to the support meetings? If you do, we have probably met. jazie -
Southwest Medical Center Lafayette, La
jazie replied to emily111's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had mine in Lake Charles. Womens and Childrens Hospital and Dr. Chung. Both of them were great. So glad I used them. jazie -
Did your dr say why this happened? And did your insurance pay for both revisions? I didn't even question my insurance because it all happened so fast. Had the 2nd surgery the day after we tried to do my 3rd fill. jazie

I had to have my port repositioned. It will be 2 weeks Thursday since my surgery. We don't really know what happened, but it was turned backward. The surgery was not bad at all. I think I felt it a little more afterward (port) but I am sure that the dr made sure it wouldn't happen again. I have an appointment Thursday and will have more time to talk to him about it. This would have been my 3rd fill but he couldn't do it. When he did the surgery, he did the fill then. Someone on here told me her dr said it may be the dissolving stitches he used to suture the port in place. I don't even know if my dr used them. I will find out Thurs. jazie

When were you cleared to EXCERCISE!
jazie replied to watermelon seeds's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was cleared at 4 weeks for water aerobics and that was so my incisions would heal before I got back in the pool. I would not do anything like riding a bike though. When I went in for my 3rd fill, my port had flipped and I had to go back to surgery to have it repositioned. I rode a stationary bike a little before 4 weeks, I am not sure what caused the flip, but I will wait 8 weeks before doing that again. Now I am out of water aerobics again for 3 more weeks. I do walk though. jazie -
I had to go back in hospital and be put to sleep. then they repositioned the port, sewed it good (I hope). The surgery was not bad and not as long as the long as the first one. I had a little more recovery time, but after a few days I was as good as new. I can feel my port now and it still feels parallel to my skin. I could only feel a corner before. I had my initial surgery on July 1, 2008. I have lost 41 lbs, so the port is a lot more visible now. It is not bad so don't worry. When he did the port he also put in my 3rd fill and I feel the restriction now. Good luck, jazie
-
My Dr told me to wait 1 month to be sure all was healed. I do water aerobics though, maybe if it is a personal hot tub, not as long. jazie
-
My solution was to lie down on my left side. I just did this by accident, but it really helped me. I am 3 months out and if I eat something that causes gas, I still use it. Worked for me! Good luck. jazie
-
That sounds logical. I have lost just about what you have so maybe that is the answer. Another bander said her dr said she was the 3rd patient of his that this happened to, and they all had the dissolving stitches. That sounds possible also. I may go in to see my dr tomorrow, I am not feeling that well and I want to make sure there is no infection. If I do I will ask his opinion. Jazie

Dry Heaving 4 days post op!
jazie replied to Tamihott's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was given a patch behind my ear plus something in IV because I have a history of nausea after surgery. I have had 2 surgeries with this and I will always ask for the patch now. jazie -
Post-Op Meds (Cost for Self-Pay)
jazie replied to Losing 2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure what you are calling post op meds. Do you mean for the pain? I wasn't self pay but I really did not have post op meds except for generic Vicodin. I only took one after surgery. My second surgery, last Thursday, to reposition my port, after it flipped, I already had the pills but they prescribed more. Only took one of those also. I think that was only because of the long ride home. Hang in there, you have come this far. Jazie -
I have never had that rudeness when I am there. I do know that they offer a Mini Sub now. Not sure what the price is, it may be the same as a 6 inch sub. I can eat a little bread but I try not to have much starches. jazie
