I am further out than you, but I went to a fancy, 7 course meal recently with my family. I just ate a little bit of each course. The Soup I didn't care for at all so I just didn't eat it. I ate more of the things I really like and less of the thigs that weren't great (before I would have eaten every bite!). I didn't finish anything, even dessert, and that was fine. I was more full than I would have been after a normal meal, but I didn't get sick.

I drink fizzy drinks. My surgery center said new research indicated that there was no issue, so they allow it a month after surgery, if it feels okay.

Since you're so early out from surgery, I can tell you this is normal. Hormones are wacky because this is a MAJOR surgery. The first 2 weeks I couldn't drink very well at all. I was on an all liquid diet for 2 weeks post op and it really hurt to drink. But, and I know you don't want to hear this, but it got better. IT WILL GET BETTER. Once you get to the mushy stage, it'll be Heaven. I'm 6 weeks out, and I can eat normal foods. The trick for me, since I never lost my hunger hormone and don't have restriction, is to stick super close to my bariatric diet. But I can tell you, you will be able to eat normal foods again. Maybe not rice or breads or pasts (or if you do, extremely small amounts), but meats, veggies, etc will definitely be ok. You just gotta get there. I know it's hard, but the end results are so worth it. I've lost 33 pounds in 6 weeks (an average of 5 1/2 pounds per week). And I had a miserable 2 week stall where I actually gained 5 pounds. And since then, once the stall broke, I lost those 5 pounds plus more. So while it's tough right now, make sure you get in your Protein (shakes, protein Water, etc), and make sure you're walking everyday. It really will get better. It took 3 weeks before all of my pain went away, but now I can do whatever I want exercise wise, and I can eat what I want as long as I make sure A) I don't eat portions that are too big I don't graze throughout the day C) I only eat what my stomach can tolerate (lettuce is a no no for me), and D) I stick to 60-80g of protein a day, less than 50g of carbs a day, and less than 50g of fats per day. You'll get there, and you'll look back on how you feel right now and really feel proud of yourself for how far you've come.

That's awesome news !!!! I was a bit concerned about you as you seem to be around most days. So happy the scales have moved for you 💓 maybe relaxing a little is the key for you. Again congratulations, you've got this !!

My apologies then. I guess when someone says burger I automatically think of a full burger 🍔 with the works like I would have eaten myself before surgery. I had a win today We went through the hungry jacks drive through to get my friends hubby his lunch and looked at the menu and thought yum but I didn't order anything it didn't even bother me .

Not sure if I spelled that right but I just learned today that you can get your sandwich roll basically hollowed out making it much less bready. Apparently most sandwich shops have heard of this. You just ask to have your roll “Canoed”. Just passing it along.

That's the hardest adjustment for me, too. I'm not 100% compliant, but I'm doing my best -- literally watching the clock after meals most days until it's "legal" to wash it down.

Well given that I was consistently losing 2-4 pounds a day and for 3 days I wasn't losing at all and ended up gaining, it seems like it's the beginning of a stall. I'm not going to be weighing myself much now that it's started.

I knew it was coming and yet it still bothers me. Now that my weight hasn't gone down (and I actually gained a pound) in the last 2 days, I'm going to not weigh myself for at least a week. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing, keep exercising, keep watching what I eat, and try not to think about it too much. It's not easy, because of course it bothers me that my progress is stopping, but I can't let it get my anxiety going. So....fun times....

ok ssooooo I am in a Facebook group that has lots of veterans in it and one made this comment to me today and it makes sense.
"its only considered a stall if you have lost no weight for 6 consecutive weeks."
She stated that this is what her surgical team have told her and few others agreed, I kind of agree with her because I did think calling a few days or a week or 2 of no weight loss a stall especially straight after surgery was a bit soon because your body does need time to heal and adjust.
this is how the comment came about,
someone had posted about not losing weight after week 2 they were now in week 4 I chimed in and said oh yes don't worry its call the week 3 stall, there are numerous post about it in the forum I am in blah blah blah thinking I was giving good advise only to be shot down in flames. so yeah its interesting how people have a different view on what a stall is, I like this one 6 weeks no loss because your body does need time to adjust and we all know that even though the scales dont move the inches can so that needs to be considered too because you are still losing its just in inches not on the scales.

So you are just eating a home made " burger patty" without all the trimmings such as the bun the cheese the sauce etc etc 🍔? If that's the case maybe don't say you are eating a whole burger because we all imagine a big burger if it is just the patty say a meat patty , big difference what people picture in their minds. If that is the case my apologies I pictured a person chowing down on a big burger 🍔 with everything.

@lizonaplane & @ShoppGirl are correct. You’ve just had pretty major surgery, your hormones are out of whack, your digestive system has been altered, something you relied on to provide emotional support (food) has been taken away from you, … Give yourself time to heal & recover -physically, mentally & emotionally. And I’m going to say it: it does get better & easier.
The staged return to eating is to support the healing of your tummy. In a few weeks on soft foods you’ll be able to have some of that tender beef stew (just no rice unless it’s cauliflower rice). Yes, it will be a much smaller portion but you’ll be eating more slowly so your family will finish their serve about the same time you likely be finished too.
Think of all the new recipes you & your husband will be able to try or reinvent with alternative ingredients.
I also agree with @lizonaplane suggestion to meet with a therapist. Many bariatric patients swear by the support they received through therapy & how it helped change their relationship with food, how they see themselves, etc.
I still drink just not as often & not as much. I say I drink quality (like champagne not sparkling) not quantity now. I often go out to restaurants. French, Italian, Japanese, Greek, etc. fine dining, bistros, cafes. I’m just careful with my menu sections. And I’m not afraid to ask to take leftovers home even in fine dining restaurants (took home duck breast, duck rillette, parsnip purée & baby carrots the other night).

I completely understand the part about enjoying meals with your husband. One of the ways my spouse showed love was through cooking elaborate, delicious meals (which is a big part of the reason I got so big in the first place). I thought that would be taken away from us and would be a source of friction, but three years later we can enjoy a lovely meal together--but my portions are much smaller now!
I will be honest--I had major regrets about having the surgery for the first four to six weeks. I know you said you don't want to hear it, but three years later I'm thrilled I did it, and my only regret is not having done it sooner.

You will be fine, I was a mess after my surgery I was convinced I would NEVER eat or drink normally again. How wrong I was. It took me until the 4 month to finally start feeling better, I cried multiple times a day I couldn't go to work I was a mess. I beat myself up for having the surgery it was awful. Keep in mind your hormones are all over the place and you are most likely grieving your old way of eating and drinking and worried about the unknown.. I am here at 11 months out and I can tell you you will feel better, you will feel amazing when you are shopping for new clothes, can walk up a hill without feeling like you are not going to make it, paint your toes nails easily so many things to look forward too. AND you will be able to have that beef stew and a Martini 😆

Yes I find myself eating a meal to the point of comfortable and instead of disposing the left overs or putting it away I leave it and come back to it in 30 mins or so to finish it even though I am not really hungry it's head hunger. The more I enjoyed the food the more likely I am to do it and there's the old "can't waste good food " mind set too.
My team say what you haven't eaten in 20 mins of slow eating ( another thing I haven’t mastered) you discard.
Boredom is a big trigger for me especially on nightshift as they can be very quiet.

I was told I could eat burgers. I was told there isn't anything I can't eat as long as my stomach tolerates it and I watch the amount I eat, how often, and I make sure to watch the Protein and carbs. And that's what I do.
