  1. My pre-op is actually not that bad, I don't have hunger pains, it's mostly just annoying that if I want to go out anywhere, I have to plan so much in advance to make sure I have all the right things ready at the right times.

Tomorrow I have the follow up with the sleep doctor, so that will be interesting, and I'm going to go to a lap band support group meeting at the hospital i'm being banded at. I'll most likely end up meeting some people from the this board there, they all say they're going too.

I can't believe my date is only 2 weeks from wednesday, I've been so focused on jumping through all the hoops I didn't really have time to think about how close it was getting. I'm really excited!

Good luck on your sleep study, I know it might be considered against the rules kind of, but I wish I hadn't slept well the night before my sleep study, maybe if I went in there tired, it would be a lot easier for me to fall asleep!

  2. that helps a lot, thanks so much! Thankfully I have a pile of books that have been in my "to read" pile for so long and now I just might get to them!
  3. What is everyone stocking up on before surgery? I know I need to buy some vitamins, but other than that, i'm stumped and could use some suggestions!
  4. I'm on day two of my preop diet, and I won't lie, it's hard. hard, but not impossible. we can do it!
  5. I start my pre-op on saturday, i'm nervous but all I can think about is how much I'll lose on the all liquid diet.

Yeah Dr. Vernon books up long in advance, if you're still looking for a surgeon I suggest Dr. Robinson, I had an appointment two weeks after I called and asked for one, but whoever you go with I'm sure you'll have a great and positive experience!
  7. aw i'm sorry the sleep test is no good, but maybe you'll do better than I did. They honestly had me lights out at 10 p.m. and that's so not me. I also have done the psych eval, it was kind of b.s. though if I really had a psychological problem I don't think the psychiatrist would have found out about it and I don't think the appointment would have helped if I needed it.

The Upper GI was gross, but over in half an hour so I guess it wasn't too bad. I didn't have an ultrasound, but maybe when I have the pre-op. I hope I don't have to ride a bike, it's been so long since I have! Did you have to take your clothes off for that? I really am not a fan of having to take my clothes off at these appointments!

I'm really looking forward to tuesday I didn't know everyone would be there, this will be my first support group meeting and the last one offered before I have surgery so I'm excited to see what it's like, and hopefully seeing so many people who have had successful surgeries will quell my fears a bit about the surgery.

I went to the info session in october and that's what helped me make the decision to go with Dr. Robinson, He'll be putting my band in me in february and honestly, he's a great guy and a great doctor even if he is kind of quiet and reserved. But his assistant Jennifer is great, always returns messages in a very timely manner and knows what she's talking about, she's an invaluable resource.
  10. Ok remember to fill me I'm, i'm getting nervous about what the pre-op appointment is like!

  11. yes i am! I'll be having the surgery at brigham and women's!

Hi Everyone, My name is Jay and I'll be having the lap band February 4th at brigham and women's with Dr. Robinson. I'm 90% sure I'll be at the support group meeting on the 20th, so I hope to see some of you there. I'm a little nervous but, I'm more excited than anything! Hope you are all doing well
  13. Wow it's wonderful to see so many february bandsters! for those who have competed their pre-op tests what did you have to do? I have my preop on the 27th and would like to know what i'm in for!

    Hello from Massachusetts!

Hi Maggie! I'm having the lap band put in by Dr. Robinson at Brigham and women's on february 4th! Welcome around!
  15. You have to fall asleep naturally so they can get an accurate reading. It's quite awful, and no distractions like television or an ipod or anything, so for most of the night I just lay there in a dark quiet room trying to fall asleep.

  16. I'm being banded on February 4th! Can't wait. I was nervous too, but in the Post Op section of the forums they have a large post where people post about their surgery day experiences, i find when I get nervous, reading those experiences calm me down a lot!

    I am so

I also have a long commute to get to the doctor i want to see, but it's worth it, i feel so comfortable with him I'd travel two hours to have him perform the surgery. congrats on starting this journey!
  18. thank you for the link and the answers!
  19. Hello, i'm about 3 weeks pre-op and poking around I've seen a lot of people talking about sliming and "pb" and I can't figure out for the life of me what they mean by this. Could someone explain in detail what these actions are?
  20. I got my date, insurance is all approved and I'll be banded on February 4th!
  21. if you have the sleep study they really do make you sleep, I think I only slept a total of 3 hours, about 45mins-1hr at a time, I guess it was enough but it was not fun at all.

currently I weight 359, so hopefully i'll see some good numbers dropping, I'm 6'3" and a guy so I hope to be down in the low to mid 200s ideally.

  22. I haven't seen the sleep doctor yet, when you go for a sleep study you go into a room that looks like a hotel room and a nurse puts all these electrodes on you and monitors your sleep. There's also a camera and intercom in the room and they watch and listen while you sleep. I didn't really sleep that much because someone watching me sleep is creepy to me! I go on the 20th for an appointment with the dr. to get the results, but on my insurance website I looked up my medical history and they had updated it with "sleep apnea" as diagnosed by sleep health centers on jan 2nd. So i'm guessing maybe I do have it. I hope I don't have to get a machine, I don't want to sleep with a mask over my face.

    I have Harvard Pilgrim insurance.

  23. i don't have an official date yet, but I talked to my surgeon's assistant and she told me she'd submit to insurance, when I log into my health insurance web page i can look up my authorizations and it has the lap band there with a status of "approved" so if it's true then the approval only took 2 days. But we had discussed the 4th so i'm assuming if it's approved it will be then. So my process was very easy, at least as far as insurance is concerned.

The upper GI was gross, and the sleep study I totally hated.

    how has your process been?

  24. wow that seems so close, mine looks like it will be feb 4th, just two days after you!
