Three weeks post op and eating/weight gain
StephD replied to creed2474's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No problem.... I just felt like a couple people were attacking me for what I was eating or something, without knowing what my exact diet is.... I am allowed to eat one regular/solid item at each meal... That means I can have beef (als74).. So I guess I was confused at what you meant by that, so I apologize if I sounded harsh!!!! I do combine a solid with a soft and have had no problems, I don't think I have much restriction, a little but not a whole lot.. Thank goodness I do have enough that I don't eat nearly as much as I use to, not even close, hehehehe!! -

I thought this site was for support and info!!!! I guess not.... Way before I was banded I came across your blog (BethFromVA) and saved it to my favs to one day read for info and whatnot. Tonight I had a chance to take a peak and this is what I found..... "The only thing I wish is that this second fill had given me a bit more restriction. I can still eat a regular-person sized meal, but that's okay. The good thing that came of this last fill is that I am not STARVING about 2-3 hours after having eaten. I don't know what that was all about because I never got like that before the band. So the fact that that feeling is gone is a definite plus. I am thinking I may try to go in one week sooner than the one-month appointment I made just to get it going a bit sooner. The other issue with being out of town is trying hard to eat right. We certainly haven't exercised like we thought we would (walked about 2 1/2 miles the first day... then nothing), but it's been nice to visit. And even if I gain a teeny bit while I'm here, I won't stress it like I used to. I will get back to my schedule when I get back home and will be back on the way down again." Three weeks post op and eating/weight gain
StephD replied to creed2474's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port site hurt off and on until a day or two ago, I've been able to lay on my stomach since 2 weeks post op, although at times it would hurt and I would just lay on my side. I think I would be able to eat a large meal as well, but I just eat small portions of soft food and chew really well. -

I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I am supposed to be on blended/mushy foods, but I have been eating soft to regular food for a couple of weeks now, because I was starving to death. I do make sure my food is soft or I chew it very well. I'm not eating near as much as I used to. For dinner I had tablespoon of mashed potatoes, tbls of green beans, and a quarter of baked steak. I haven't had a fill yet and won't until 2/24 and I never feel full, but I don't test those waters I just eat very little at one time, and it does not stick with me. I know by the 24th I'll probably gain all 20 pounds that I have lost. I hope this thing (band) works when I get a fill.... -
Getting Banded Monday

Hey how is everyone doing almost two weeks post op? Is anyone starving to death???? I AM...... I can't take much more of this full liquid diet, but I have 3 more days to go. How is everyone doing with getting their protein? Not doing good there either, I can do one choc protein shake in the morning which gives me about 22g. I ordered a bunch of the protein bullets and they are gross! Any suggestions? Anyone on mushy foods? What are you eating, since that is the next phase... Hope everyone is doing and feeling well!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Hey I'm in Lincoln Co also, I was just banded on Dec 29 by Dr Nease in huntington.. Let us know when your date is!!!

Getting Banded Monday
StephD replied to DragonflyNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey how is everyone doing?? I will be one week post op monday. The first couple of days were very painful, but has gotten better with each day. I'm able to lay on each side and almost completely on my stomach. I'm down to taking Lortab just twice a day, when I wake up I'm really sore and need something and before I go to bed to make it easier to move around without a lot of pain. How is everyone doing with getting in all the protein??? I'm not doing to well, I do a protein shake (22g) in the morning then do broth, pudding and jello the rest of the day. I bought some unflavored protein to put in broth but it was gross. I ordered some of the protein bullets from GNC so I hope get those soon so I can fufill my protein requirements. One more week of full liquids anyone have suggestions??? Yesterday I really started feeling hungry, I hope I can make it another week on liquids, hehehe.... I hope everyone is doing well!!!!!!!!! -

Getting Banded Monday
StephD replied to DragonflyNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I'm in the same boat as you... I am having surgery monday as well... The ladies at the office got me in before the 1st due to insurance change as well, although I didn't get a denial, BCBS gave me the run around a couple weeks into November and I was worried that I would not get an approval before the first.... Do you have a pre-op diet? Mine is liquids for 48 hours.... I'm getting nervous with a whole bag of mixed emotions... Good Luck -

Ok this is probably the most stupid and off subject question, but what does the "D" stand for in front of DHusband, DSon, etc...... I've seen this a lot, I'll probably smack myself, but I'm curious!!! Hope everyone is doing well and had a great thanksgiving!! -

I think I am going to be a Holiday Hottie after all, my surgery is scheduled for Dec 29th!!!!!!!!! -
Hello all!!!!! I got my surgery date..... Dec 29th..... I know I should be excited right now but I won't be until I see the Dr and he tells me surgery IS on... monday I did my lab work, EKG, and chest xray. xray fine, had to repeat the EKG because the first one said I have had a heart attack at one point, while having that repeated at my PCP (which was normal) she told me my PTH (parathyroid hormone) is elevated, so now I have to have a parathyroid ultrasound. After doing some research about elevated PTH, it really explains why I feel like crap 24/7, almost all of the symptoms of an elevated PTH i've been dealing with for sometime except for high blood pressure. So depending on the outcome of the ultrasound, worst case scenario I will need surgery to have them removed, in a weird way I hope that is what is going on, just so I can start feeling better, which in return will help me be even more successful with the band! Anywho enough about me how is everyone doing??? Diagnosis of Parathyroid Disease. Diagnose Parathyroid Disease by High Calcium and Parathyroid Hormone Levels. Hyperparathyroidism diagnosis is on parathyroid.com. Parathyroid hormone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for anyone else who has had this issue!!!!

Keep your fingers crossed that I hear from her tomorrow and hopefully I can get a surgery date too!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you all are doing well!!!!!! I'm still in the process... Went for consult on Sept 26th, go to nutrition consult on the 20th of October, need to have my psych stuff faxed to the Doc.... I have a question??? I started a supervised diet in August, just in case that is what insurance requires. I am seeing Dr Nease in Huntington and the lady I've spoken with at the office tells me I need 6 months...... How does she know if they haven't contacted my insurance??? I know most do, but the insurance I have is BCBS of Mass, and from the info on their web site, and other posts, it doesn't sound like they require that, just a letter of referal. What should I do to get them to contact insurance after I have all my consults to get this ball rollin' ??????

Just FYI but West Virginia and Virginia are two different states...:confused2:

Hey all!!!!!! I'm in WV in the charleston area... I've been contemplating having the lap band and finally set up an appointment for a consultation last week, so far they say my insurance will approve due to my BMI and other health issues. I have my nutrition consult the 24th and will soon have a psych appt. I'm kind of skeptical about the physician that I have chosen. While reading there is a post from dtoliver that he/she received some disturbing news regarding Dr. Bali.... Does anyone know anything about him, dtoliver can you contact me and let me know, what you've heard and what you think so far????
