I just found this smilie and it reminded me of your thread. Who would have thought there was a puking smilie. I'm going to have to use this smile for my first PB experience.

 Good luck tomorrow Bigrick. We'll be thinking about you. When your up to it, let us know how it all went.

Welcome Dewezl12, this is a great forum. I'm sure you will find answers to all your questions here or at least find someone else who is going through or went through the same experience. I am still waiting to be banded (Aug. 25th) so I cannot answer your questions at this time. However, my post op diet (according to my doctor's office) is only Clear liquids for 7 days after, then week two I can start with the dark liquids (i.e. broth and jello). Perhaps you are eating too much too fast. Were you given any post op diet instructions? Also how fast did you drink? My info says I will need to slowly drink all liquids. Take lots of sips. Right after surgery I was told it should take me 30 minutes to drink 8 onces of liquids. That seems like a long time to me, but that is what my doctor wants me to do. I'm sure the bandsters, which I am not yet, will answer your questions more thoroughly. CONGRATULATIONS on being banded. I'm sure everything will get better. Keep us up-to-date.

How long after surgery did you start driving again? For how long or how far?
-
You may also want to speak with your nutritionist and/or dietitian b/c some of the foods you ate are on my do not touch list after surgery. Good luck on your first fill.

BigDaddy - Congrats on being banded as well!! Good luck tomorrow at work. I will have to return to work a week after my surgery as well. Let us know how things go.

I would love to try stevia. I've heard lots of good things about it, but I've never found it anywhere for a reasonable cost.
-
Well congratulations!!! :scared2: Only two hours. Wow! Where I'm getting it done I will have to spend the night. I wish I could go home the same day.

Back when I only had 30 lbs to loose I went on a diet and ended up with 40+ lbs to loose. I dieted again and ended up with 50+. The story goes on (like for many of us) and thanks to the yo-yo effect I now have around 80 lbs to loose. I figure why wait until I have 100+ lbs to loose. I'm ready to make these changes now and I see the lap band as a tool to help me deal with the hungry feelings that always get me. I'm fine with eating healthy I just can't stand being hungry and that ends up being my down fall. Keep researching and good luck with your decision.

I'm doing this for accountability...really no need to read

First of all let me say CONGRATULATIONS on loosing 114 pounds. Your before and after pictures are amazing and also encouraging to me. My wife and I are just starting this journey. We will both be banded during the last week in August. Seeing your pictures makes feel it's really possible to loose weight even though I've tried many times in the past and failed. Thank you!! I just moved as well this past May and we are not completely settled in yet. There are still boxes in the corners of some rooms that need to be unpacked. So I understand the stress you are under. Plus you are dealing with other post surgery issues. I'm sorry and hope things begin to settle down for you soon. Keep yourself surround with your supportive friends. You are doing great. -
Congratulations on getting another date. But what do you mean your second time around. What happen in March? Why no band?
-
Welcome to the forum. I think you will like it. You will also find lots of valuable information here to help you through your surgery. I am also getting banded in August on the 25th. Take a ticker just go to tickerfactory.com and follow the directions. Copy and paste the bb code into you signature. It's that easy.

I like watching her 30 minute meals show. I typically do more of the cooking at home and enjoy how quick her recipes take to cook. However, for me it's not always 30 minutes. South Beach also has a 30 minute meal cook book with lots of great healthy recipes. I'm not too interested in RR's day time show b/c it's just too feminine, but I guess it is intended to be for women. Oh, the other thing I like about RR is that she is a cook and not a chef. She is just like everyone at home. And when she makes a mistake or drops something on the floor, like we all do, she just runs with it. Other chefs on t.v. would edit those mistakes out.

This just sounds too strange! I hope it all goes well. Let us know. I've never heard of a doctor calling several times just to make sure you have the correct directions. Be careful.

I'm laughing reading some of these reactions although it wasn't funny when they were said. I guess it's better now to laugh instead of staying mad. We are making a great decision and a great healthy change in our lives. If we could just walk it off because we are not really that big we would have years ago. It's great having this forum where one can find real support.

I hope this is one of those stories you can laugh about one day. Maybe not! Hearing stories like this makes me nervous about getting surgery. May your next fill go much smoothly with only one try.

I love my large cup of coffee in the mornings, but I'm trying to ween myself off and switch to herbal teas. I'm making the decision for health reasons. Actually I believe green tea is also great for weight loss. I hope to take up golf again in the spring.

Glad to hear everything is going well post-op. I told some of my immediate family and close friends. At work I only told one colleague but only because she had the same surgery this past May. At this point I feel I told enough people and had my full of positive and negative reactions that I decided to keep it now to myself. Perhaps when I loose a lot of weight and people start asking I may or may not tell them.

I wish you well. I will be looking forward to hear how it went.

My wife is also going through the process of getting the band. She is a type one diabetic and is concerned about hitting a low and not being able to eat or drink what she needs to in order to get her blood sugar levels back up. In the past she generally drinks a couple juice boxes and she is shortly back to normal. We were told after surgery it will take 30 minutes to drink 8 oz. of Water. She is concerned she will not be able to get the sugar she needs fast enough when she hits a low. Also, she is not on a pump. Are there any other type one diabetics with the band out there? What do you do when you hit a low?

Welcome to the forum. You will find lots of valuable information and support here. I've been checking it almost everyday since I started the process as well. To answer your question...it really depends on your insurance and the surgeons office. My local hospital has a bariatrics department but has a six month waiting period with all sorts of meetings. Once completed you can then be scheduled for surgery. If you miss a meeting you have to start all over with a new group and a new six month waiting period. In total it can be 7 - 9 months from beginning to end. My insurance does not require their time frame so I check out other hospitals and found one with a three month waiting period and one with no waiting period. My first appointment with the surgeon was on July 2nd. Since I have hypertension I knew I would have to see my cardiologist so I actually went there first in June and got my EKG and Echo completed. My schedule was flexible so I was able to squeeze other appointments in quickly. I was finished with all my pre-surgery tests a week later and was approved by my insurance just a few days ago. My surgery is scheduled for August 25th. I was hoping for sooner but my doctor only does lap bands on Mondays and only 4 surgeries a day. The 25th was the first available date. But all-in-all from my first official appointment to the surgery it will be less then two months. My wife is also getting banded. She is still waiting for some test results to come back. It will probably be another week or two until she is approved. She is hoping to have her surgery sometime in September. Good luck with your surgery. I hope it goes quickly for you. If you read a lot of people's tickers and surgery date info in their signatures you will see that many people lost even over a hundred pounds in less then a year. You should be fine for your wedding.
-
Congratulations! :Banane03: I'm also scheduled for August 25th.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a teacher and my surgery is scheduled for Monday, August 25th. My first official day back is two days later on Wednesday, the 27th for a fun full day of meetings and workshops. I don't have to return until the following Tuesday, September 2nd for my first day with students. Right now I am not planning on missing work. If I have too I will take the 27th off but I hate to take the day if I am just going to be sitting there. I will only be sitting at home so I might as well just go and sit there and listen. A co-worker last year had the surgery on a Wednesday and was back to teaching the following Monday. She said she was sore but she took it easy in the classroom. I plan to have my classroom ready for the first week of school before I have my surgery. Perhaps I'm crazy and I may have to make adjustments to this plan once I have the surgery. But I will do my best not to miss any work.

Thanks everyone. I'm really excited.

 I'm approved! :huh2: I called my insurance and found out I was approved today for surgery. I called my doctor's office and I am now scheduled for surgery on August 25th. I guess this makes me and August All Star.
