Can anyone tell me why some doc's fill the band with a solution that is thicker than saline called Omni pak? (I think I am spelling it right). What is the advantage or disadvantage of this particular solution?:help: Thanks!

Good evening all, This is my first attempt at LBT so be kind... I had my surg on 1/24 and had my 1st fill last week. I have read a lot of the postings and I know not everyone gets filled quickly. I was glad, however, b/c I was starting to get hungry. :cry I have lost 20 lbs to date since surg and I am not sure this is the average or not. Any input??:help: I did get an upper resp infection two weeks ago and was glad not to be filled or too restricted b/c I needed to get in more than average fluids due to the fever.:sick That has passed and I am back on track. I welcome any advice since this is all new to me. Thanks! Dr. Spivak-Houston Banded 1.24.06 1st fill - 2ccs 3.2.06

I too wonder "why" the saline disappears. Is it our body that just absorbs the fluid? OR is this the beginning of a leak in progress? :guess My doc told me some people absorb the fluid. I was just a little concerned when he used the Omnipaque so quickly. Can you go from Omnipaque back to saline?

Thanks Letha. It sounded like he (doc) used it b/c of my loss of fill (0.7cc's) on my previous refill. I have not heard of it before and wondered if it was common practice to use.....

Anyone have their first fill dissipate?
dt06houston replied to NVanDev's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes! I had a fill 3 wks ago and gradually became able to eat larger portions than when I was first filled. Got another fill today-had lost 0.7cc's of the original 2.0 cc's. -
Insulin taking diabetics & slow weight loss
dt06houston replied to dt06houston's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for all the input. I too have dropped the insulin dosage and would really like to drop it to maybe one shot a day and eventually take a oral medication. :nervous One day at a time though. I just know that insulin is a hormone. It causes us naturally to gain weight so with the band and taking insulin, it seems to slow the weight loss...to me that is. I am doing the protein, water, etc. Eating the right foods...etc. It's one of the "things that make you go ...hmmm".....:speechles -
Hey all I want to know if there are any diabetics out there still taking insulin after their LBS. Are you having a hard time with weight loss and blood sugars? Need input....:help:

 Hey thanks for all the warm wishes. I am struggling here with the scale not moving. Any suggestions? I eat my required proteins, and calories, drink my required water, etc. but the scale doesn't move. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the insulin I still have to take. Hopefully, when the weight starts falling again I can readjust my insulin intake and lower again. Any thoughts on the subject? :help: -
I too had my 1st fill 5 wks post op and those last weeks were not easy. I felt the restriction was not there..but I understand that's from the intial swelling b/c your band is not filled yet. With my 1st fill (last wk) I still do not feel the kind of restriction I had initially.. Is this normal? Do I have to wait a wk or two to feel the restriction? or is it immediate?
