NONE! Apart from marrying my husband it is the best decision I ever made. I am officially a healthy weight as of last Sunday (-58.5 kg/-129 lbs total weight loss right now) at 9 months po and I could not be happier about it 💕

One year post op -image problem

I struggle with this too and you guys give some fantastic advice! Is just like to add a website that’s been very helpful for me: modelmydiet.com You can adjust an ‘avatar’ to kind of look like you at all sorts of weights and imho, it’s pretty accurate!! I like to return to that every now and then to get some perspective 😁 -
Anyone Struggle Watching Your Family Eat?
Summermoose replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I really don’t mind at all, I’m the cook at home and I’ve adapted my recipes! He just gets a big bowl and I get a small one 😁 I don’t avoid pasta, rice or potatoes, but watch the fat and sugar content very closely. (Right now I’m 1.5 kg away of having lost 100% of my excess weight btw) Thankfully he doesn’t bring home or order take out/fast food, that’s a mutual decision that is working out well for both of us 😁 Re: supermarkets, I have only set foot in one twice since my surgery end of august 2021! I get my groceries delivered once a week and I absolutely love it. For me the service is money well spent, not only is food shopping a complete waste of time (imo) it is way too busy and frustrating to try to do your shopping outside of work, and everything inside the store is geared towards getting you to buy unnecessary things. It’s also really helped me disconnect from food in a way, by engaging with it less overall. -
Fantastic!! Congratulations 🥳

No need to be nervous! They use numbing cream so you won’t feel it at all 😁

I have! 😁 Always wanted a lotus and it seemed extra fitting now

What was your "this is it" moment
Summermoose replied to jamaro2795's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One day during lockdown I just realised I would never lose all of it on my own and that I would never be happy if I didn’t lose it. I was 28 when I had the surgery (last summer) and no real medical issues to speak of. That said.. now I’ve lost over 110 pounds, I can feel how brutal those years with all those extra pounds were on my feet, on my knees, on my back… I feel like it was only a matter of time before I would have really started to struggle physically. I am so so so glad I got this done now and didn’t wait longer. I would have done it sooner had I known what it would be like. I got my life back and I have the whole rest of it to enjoy and partake in all the fun things that I couldn’t/wouldn’t before. I personally think that every year, month, even DAY that you get back is worth this. The joy of seeing people again, the socialising, the going places, stopping for coffee (do I fit? Of course I do!), shopping wherever I like, going to amusement parks, swimming pools, playing with kids, hiking… I could think of dozens more things to add. It is a risk.. but for me personally, I figured I could choose between suffering while definitely getting worse in the future, or giving it a shot and most likely NOT suffering and actually getting better in the future. -
What are you treating yourself with?
Summermoose posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would love to hear about ways you have treated yourself after surgery, or things that you are planning to treat yourself to. Let’s celebrate all the happy things we’re experiencing and the fact that we’re showing up for ourselves! 💕 -
Ohhh I know how you feel, I have baby fever too!! It’s so hard having to wait when you already feel so much better, top that with seeing cute kiddos everywhere.. I was told 18 months as well and am counting down. 12 months to go 🥰

What to add to meat to increase moisture?
Summermoose replied to Flab-U-Less Forever's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What has helped me a lot was buying a meat thermometer! Turns out I was overcooking most of my meat because I was scared of food poisoning.. it’s a lot juicier and way more tasty now 😀 usually I found chicken too dry to get down without sauce, but now I don’t even need sauce anymore! -
I loooove orzo and it goes down just fine.. only trouble is it’s so delicious I have to really pace myself so I don’t eat too fast 😆

So sorry for your loss Lisa. Be extra kind to yourself during this difficult time and let yourself grieve for as long as you need. 🌸

One Year With Mini Gastric Bypass: My Journey, Thoughts, and Tips!
Summermoose replied to a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
You look fantastic!! 😁 I love your mindset, I have tried to surround myself with a lot of body positivity/neutrality pre-op and more importantly post-op, and I am genuinely already liking what I see in the mirror at BMI 30. So what if it’s not “ideal” (yet)? My surgeon is happy, I am happy, and I look damn cute in jeans!!! 🥳 I don’t think I’m done losing yet at 5.5 months po but I’m happy already.. If only I could have told my previous self all about this. 😊 -
I’ve been feeling unwell for a couple of days now and it keeps getting worse. At first I noticed my portions were getting smaller and smaller, was feeling nauseous after eating more often, then got a headache Wednesday night that hasn’t really gone away since. Felt a little dizzy last night and today I am VERY dizzy. Almost like I’m tipsy, my vision is swimming and I feel like my balance is way off. Weirdest thing.. for lunch today I had a slice of bread with américain (spreadable spiced minced meat.. it’s a Belgian thing 😬) which is low fat low sugar and right after eating it I felt SO DIZZY and lightheaded. Not nauseous, but I knew that if i moved in the slightest I’d pass out. Both bread and that spread are completely ok for me to eat per my surgeon. I waited until I was quite hungry to eat a snack just now, and I had one bite of sausage and IMMEDIATELY I was completely put off, my stomach felt like it was cramping. 😫 it kind of feels like it’s stuck where my bra band sits. I just did a self test and I’m negative, so that easy answer isn’t it.. I’m so confused guys 😫 I’m 5 months po (MGB) right now and haven’t had any issues up until now. Any help or tips would be immensely appreciated

Getting past the gatekeeper
Summermoose replied to Toomany#s's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ohhh that must be so frustrating!! I would definitely try to call anyone that works there to reach someone who can help you out or just show up in person, five months is getting ridiculous. You have every right to demand some proper service by now! If they’re drowning in work they should at least notify people about longer waiting times.. They could even put that up on their website. Good luck! Hope you get a positive response 🤞 -

What I wish i knew before I had surgery
Summermoose replied to Shineaiggy29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I had really understood the psychological impact of losing weight beforehand. Massive weight loss may trigger a lot of painful emotions and make you come to painful realisations as well. As an example, these two things are what I am struggling with most: 1. People treat me differently (makes me feel anger and grief) 2. Men are noticing me again (triggers anxiety and fear) I really thought I had all my ducks in a row before surgery, but I’m glad I have a therapist I know and trust who can see me at the drop of a hat. I’d really recommend anyone to make sure they have solid emotional and psychological support before starting all this. 🍀 -
Thanks for asking 🤗 I saw a GP yesterday and he thinks it’s a combination of low blood pressure and some sort of virus. He told me to take excedrin, drink coffee, eat salty things and rest and tbh I do feel less dizzy and confused! Just very fatigued still and struggling to get in my food. I’m really glad I went because I was worried it’d be something more serious.

Thanks everyone for your tips and suggestions! My Iron levels were actually perfect mid December, except for ferritin which was quite high. I don’t think it’s a migraine either, I have those and it feels very different. I called my surgeons assistant yesterday and she asked me to ring back Wednesday if I don’t feel better by then.. she’s not sure it sounds like something to do with my surgery. because of your suggestions I ended up booking a PCR test this morning and just got the negative result back (the self test I mentioned was for COVID). I’m seeing a GP tomorrow even if it’s just for a doctors note because I am honestly not able to do any meaningful work 😫 I can’t concentrate at all. Haven’t felt as crap as yesterday after lunch but still it feels I’ve had too much to drink (except it isn’t fun at all). So weird to say but I was almost disappointed that it’s not Covid because now it’s a big unknown and I don’t know what to expect 😫

Hoi Brien! 😊

Speed of eating - does it really matter when you know your limit??

Okay now I’m even more nervous about ever trying alcohol again! 😆 Good to know though! -
Did your comorbidities go away after surgery?
Summermoose replied to ClareLynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There is so much fatphobia and anti-fat bias in healthcare. So many doctors default to seeing us as obese only, and can’t see past our weight so they end up prescribing weight loss as the cure to anything and everything. So your story doesn’t surprise me one bit ☹️ They’ve done that to me so many times, to my fat friends, to many fat influencers I follow on social media.. it’s one of the reasons I got surgery in the first place. It’s so dehumanising to realise you will never really be treated like a person if you’re fat, be that in healthcare or out and about by strangers. Wishing you well and I truly hope that you end up getting relief for your symptoms, be that through continued weight loss or doctors who finally listen instead of judge. 🤗 -
Speed of eating - does it really matter when you know your limit??
Summermoose replied to Spinoza's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon and nutritionist advised me not to take too long while eating (ideally less than 20 minutes). TBH I feel like that is a really long time already because it’s not like I can eat a whole bowl of food 😆 I think it’s best to listen to your body and do what feels best for you! -
Congrats on your surgiversary! 😁🥳

Questions about weight gain due to SSRI’s like Paxil before surgery…HELP!
Summermoose replied to Renske's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hoi Renske! I’m Dutch too 😁 I know this isn’t exactly what you were looking for since I am no longer on Paxil, but I did gain a solid 15 kg on it. I was already well into the obese range when I started taking it though. After quitting (slowly over the course of three months) I didn’t have much success in shedding that weight and actually gained even more.. but I used to self-soothe with food. The weight is flying off now (4.5 months po), and it feels like my metabolism has had a big kick in the butt 😄
