  1. you guys are both lucky! I have a very high pain tolerance so the actually surgery site didnt bother me at all.. but the suffocating feeling of the gas pains made me miserable and I was so naseous I threw up several times!! :blink:I wished I could be the one to walk out with very little pain and side effects. but I was miserable for the first 48 hours and then slightly uncomfortable for the next 5 days!:tt1: I am however sooooo glad i got to go home because as bad as I felt.. I would rather feel bad in the comforts of my own home.. and now its all over anyways. its so interesting how everyones body reacts differently!:biggrin2:

    July Butterflies Master Thread

I try to find ways to stay busy.. my husband is in a med program and I stay at home with my 11month old and it is so tempting to stay home all day long.. but I have been trying to get into a routine.. walk to the library, walk to the park, walk to pick my husband up from the train.. walk to walgreens for a new toothbrush... you get my point :w00t: staying active keeps me out of the kitchen.. where I might otherwise be tempted to snack.. its been a hard 6 weeks and I dont even know where I am at weight wise since my scale stinks.. but I get my first fill friday.. and I am more excited about the weigh in than the fill cause i know I am dropping sizes.. I am into the pants I had before my pregnancy. hang in there!! I think the temptation is to focus so much on the band and what it should be doing and the food we can or cant have.. we need to just get out there be active and make good choices when it is time to eat and the weight will come off! I try to make it a point not to focus so much on my band.. but to get on with my life.

thanks so much.. I went on Amazon and found one that had 88 reviews and still had 4 stars! and mostly the reviews talked about the acuracy of the weight.. I just needed something.. I dont weigh myself all the time but at least once a week and it was driving my nuts not to know where I am at.. I didnt want to wait the every 6 weeks or so to go to the docs to weigh in and I didnt want to buy another "piece" if you know what I mean.. so I cant wait for it to get here.. then maybe I can finally change my ticker!!

ya my stomach is weaker in the morning too.. it always has been.. I just choose things that wont make me more nausous.. its different everyday.. sometimes I start with hot tea and that seems to help.. Oh ya and can anyone recommend a scale that doesnt suck? I have the weight watchers one and it is so unreliable. It was 10lbs off the docs last time I was weighed in.. I need a new reliable scale that isnt going to fluctuate by 5 lbs each time I weigh myself within 5 mins!!!! I try to get the same reading twice and it doesnt do it.. any suggestions??

    July Butterflies Master Thread

Hi I havent posted here in forever.. but I am a July bandster and I want in on the fun!!!!! so I have to say.. I have expierenced the restriction without the fill.. only 2 days ago I slightly tested the boundry and found I could eat a little more.. and today is the first day I have actually felt hungry more often.. I am also breast feeding though and my baby has been sick so nursing more often.. so that could be why.. I didnt really want the fill until today.. I get my first fill on friday. I have also been frusterated because I feel like no one at my docs is in my situation.. I am BF my 11month old.. and my doc and nutritionist both have not had someone in this situation.. so I am clueless to the amount of calories I need to be consuming and all. I get officially weighed in on friday and my pants are falling off.. so I wonder how I am doing.. I guess I am just nervous that with the fill I will not be able to get enough nutrients and feel exhausted all the time like I did in the beginning when I did feel the restriction. its great to see you all losing and hanging in there.. its cool because we are all about the same in out journey.. timing wise anyway.. :biggrin2:
  8. Hi I have to disagree with the nursing immediately after surgery thing.. I spoke with 2 different lactaction consultants and they recommended 24hrs after not to breastfeed.. it does depend on the type of anesthesia and the childs reaction may differ.. but the 24hrs is across the board and partly this is because you dont know how the child will react to even the little anesthesia that will come through your milk. so many people have allergies to them I wouldnt risk seeing how my baby would react to it.. what I did was I pumped at least a 24hr supply for my baby and when I tried to pump I didnt get much.. I thought I would need to pump all the time but it wasnt like it was when my baby was solely nursing.. so I just waited till I felt like they were full and then I got like 5 oz out to dump.. if you cant get any out with the pump if you wait long enough you will be full enough to get some out. I only ended up pumping like 2 maybe 3 times in the 24hrs after.. and I was quite relieved because I had bad gas pains and nursing and puming was the last thing I wanted to do!! 24 hours later I was happy to nurse my little one. and I guess I found the 24hr thing worth it because it gave me some time for just me to recooperate. instead of constantly looking to the needs of my little one.. (she was at the clinic the whole time with me and my husband on the day of the surgery and even walked the halls with me after :hurray:. ) and it gave me one less thing to worry about. the 24hrs wasnt so long to wait, easier than I imagined, and I didnt feel scared that something might happen to her.. the pain meds are fine.. they usually just give you tylenol with codine anyhow. I think the 2-4 hour thing is for gas anesthesia.. I just did a lot of reasearch (please no disrespect intended shinyhappymommy. I have a lot of respect for you because you helped me a lot before my surgery.. I was freakin out!!! just another opinion though :banghead:) with any advice you have to do what you feel is best.. your the mommy and its ultimately your decision. Also with the 10lb thing.. my husband is in med school and I planned my surgery on his 3 week break. My baby is like 24lbs and I did not lift her for at least the first week.. the second week I tried very hard not to lift her and by the 3rd I was lifting away.. the doc just told me that if I need to lift its better to sit down and do it from that position. I had no problems obeying the docs because I had a c-section and 4 weeks later ended up having surgery again because I didnt obey the docs and my incisions opened and I got a major infection that hospitalized me for 4 days.. so ya.. no telling me twice.. the other thing is your port will be sewn to your abs and you need time for the stiches to heal before you do anything major.. just so it says attached. I just made sure I had the hands around to help.. its difficult if you dont have someone around.. maybe you can hire someone? a college student perhaps?? just to be around when the other hands in your life cant be? also I agree with shinyhappymommy.. I have had no problems continuing to BF my little one.. it kinda helps you lose faster. well I hope shinyhappymommy and I have helped!
  9. I think it depends on you and you pregnancy.. everyone is different.. the important thing is getting enough nutrients to the baby.. I have heard that some people get totally unfilled while others stay filled. I was so sick with my first one that I cant imagine not getting a total unfill.. I was losing weight with my first and no band.

    Just Banded need help

remember too that some of that pressure is still the abdominal gas that they pump into you.. try hot liquids such as tea or broth.. it made me feel better:cool2:

    Afraid to eat

Hey there.. I was in the same boat.. hang in there!! it will get better soon!.. try sipping on hot tea. I would sip on it constantly.. to the point where my hubby was making fun of the fact that I always needed a top off to make it warm again. I think it really helped with the gas too. it was the only way I could get a lot of liquid in.. I still do that now.. hope it helps..
  12. Hi I was banded on 7/25 almost a month ago and I have been on the progression diet.. I have been on mushy food for the last 3 weeks and have 2 more weeks to go on mushies.. however.. I have no fill in my band and yet I am very restricted.. I eat only the amount that they told me to and I am not hungry.. I have no appetite and I have to force myself to eat at times because i am breastfeeding and I know I need it.. I believe I am already around 20lbs down although I havent had the official weigh in.. I am susposed to get my first fill in a week and this bothers me for 2 reasons.. 1 I got the band so that when I was preg I could have the band opened up with no restriction and eat how I need to eat.. 2nd if they fill me now I may have even more problems eating.. has anyone else expierenced this?:smile2:

    Gas pain please help!!!!!

I had terrible gas pains,, it was the worst part.. they kept hanging on.. I had my husband massage my shoulders and neck and back pretty hard and it pushed up the gas and I burped.. it kept coming back and each time he would do the same thing, I didnt try the heating pad but you should.. because the pain in your shoulder and neck is differed from the gas pushing on your diapram,. so the heat should help the shoulder, I also slept propped up in a chair and drank lots of hot tea.. these things seemed to help.. I hated that time but keep reminding your self that its gonna be over soon!!! I feel great now!:biggrin2:

I am praying for you this morning. I Lord can do miraculous things! hang in there sister!! The Lord has a plan and purpose for your life.
  17. flying is fine, keep in mind the number of bandsters that have gotten banded out of this country for finacial purposes.. I am assuming they fly home very shortly after.
  18. I went tent camping a week and a half after my surgery and I was fine.. my husband did all the work setting up camp.. but it was fine, everyone recovers at a different rate but you should be fine. the only thing to keep in mind is your eating at a months time may still be restricted,, like having to eat mushies or something.( I am not sure what plan your doc has you on) but eating out is somewhat a pain while in recovery. just plan ahead and bring things to help yourself if need be

    Christian bandsters

hey all.. I have been gone for a little while now.. just busy because my husband is on break from his med program.. but its wonderful to see all of you support one another! I will have to keep checking up on here to get some prayer requests to pray for!! I think its so important to pray for one another in this transistion of life.. the enemy can be so crafty! I myself have been seeming to expierence "bandster hell" as I have heard it refered to.. haha really its not that bad.. but I am in week 3 and I cant believe that I have to eat friggin pureed food for 2 more weeks.. I have been eating some mushy stuff and just chewing it really well.. but its a little ridiculous to me to sit down to dinner and my 10 month old is eating more solid chunks than me!! haha. its really frusterating that it seems I can only eat like 4 things. and having to be "special" wherever I go.. "Im sorry I can only eat things the consistancy of baby mush" :whatchutalkingabout ok well God bless you all this week!
  20. Hey I was wondering that if anyone remembers or is awake at 630a friday (tomorrow) 7-25 if you could please pray for me. I am having the surgery and so nervous. my husband and 10 month old will be there with me. thanks sooo much!

    friday 7-25 please pray

Hi everyone.. I am feeling better.. the gas is hardly noticible now.. it only rears its ugly head once and awhile.. I lost 11lbs in the first week since surgery so the doc progressed me to mushies cause I am Breastfeeding too! I think they felt bad for me My only isssue now is I am doing things too early because I feel better. (like picking up my daughter) but I am trying not too.. cause I pay for it later. Stace, I havent forgot about you.. sorry I havent written you.. but I am camping with my husband and baby and I just found free wifi.. at the camp store.. I was afraid I would miss your surgery date before I got back but I see its the 2oth, just wanna make sure I pray ok all.. back to the lake and the tent. blessings:biggrin2:

    Pain in chest

I had full liquids from day 2 on and I just made them really thin.. I had all kinds of creamy Soups blended them for like 4 mins and I was fine, I am breast feeding so I couldnt really do the Clear Liquids.. I was very conservative though I didnt go to crazy.. but also had Protein shakes with milk.. the pain in your chest is most likely still from the Gas they put in you.. I had terrible gas pains in my chest and in my back and then later in my shoulders.. it took me about 7-8 days to get over them completely.I think the pain is in the chest area because the gas is trying to get out and pushing up on the diaphram.. just remember to sip slow and take breaks if you start to feel bad. and be conscious of liquids that cause gas. AND remember to walk a lot.. even if you dont feel like it walk.. and have someone massage your back and help you to burp up that gas. everyones doc is different.. some say clear liquids for 4 days.. some say full.. some even allow mushies early. you should follow what your doc wants.. but just remember you are recovering from surgery.. take it easy. dont push your stomach too early, you dont want to throw up.
  23. I also get a stomach ache sometimes shortly after I eat or drink something. I just rest awhile and the feeling passes. then I try a little more.
  24. Hey all I was banded 7/25 about a week ago and my doctor progressed me early to mushies because I lost 11lbs in 1 week.. (I am breastfeeding my baby too!) so I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on what to try... I am acutally scared to death to try anything for fear of throwing up.. but I have to start getting some more nutrients. (canned blended soup is not doing the trick) I tried baked beans a little bit ago and had one scrambled egg for breakfast today. and I had a tbs of cottage cheese yesterday. help! :wink2:
