    Pre-Natal vs. Multi-Vitamin

I take a liquid pre-natal but I am nursing and also want to have more kids in the future so I want the folic acid in my system.. I think the only difference is it had folic acid and extra iron.. I dont see why that would hurt anything. my husband has accidentally taken them before. and he's fine! haha
  2. thanks for the encouragement! and for sharing! it makes me feel alot better. I too noticed a decline awhile ago too and my lactation consultant said it was because my supply tailored to her needs.. we will see how things go!

How Dangerous is it to PB alot?

I am not an expert as I am being banded friday.. but from the things i have read from other bandsters.. you are either eating too fast, not chewing well enough.. or the band is too tight.. I think the only danger with PBing is that you are not getting solid nutrience down. if you are on mushies and pbing then you are most likely too tight
  4. peaches, I forgot to tell you I also found a liquid calcuim drink near the boost for the clear liquid phase and also a powder from whole foods that has the 7 fruits and veggies you need, that u can mix with Water or juice.
  5. Jacqui, thanks for your response. Yes I told the docs I wouldnt be on anything less than 1600 cals because thats what is recommended for BF. So I will not hit ketosis on that.. I am however doing liquids for today and tomorrow before the surgery friday. But I am getting 1600 cals.. even though I am drinking, drinking , drinking . and my weightloss may go slower at first because I am gonna try like heck to get 1600 calories.. I think thats why I am nervous because I know its gonna be hard to get all those cals in at first.. but I will force myself! I have also done a lot of research for after and during the 4 days liquid stage I even have a powder that has your intake of 7 vegs and fruits, and a clear liquid Calcium drink! trying to be as balanced as possible on clear liquids  anyways.. how long ago did you have the surgery.. you look great! and what part of Aussie do you live.. my husband and I may move to Perth in 5 or so years so I can do a midwifery school:thumbup:
  6. hey peaches, I have been working very closely with my nutritionist and lactation consulatant that I had when my daughter was born. I told the doctor that breast feeding was very important to me and that I didnt want to stop.. I told them that I wasnt going to do the pre-op low carb 800 cal. diet that they suggested because all the info says you shouldnt drop below 1600 calories. my nutritionist was great and gave me a lower carb 1600 diet for these 2 weeks, but it was balanced and regular food. Protein, carbs and the like. I am only on the liquid diet for 2 days before and I am getting in close to 1600 cals on that.. but it is lower carb. I wont hit ketosis in 2 days. She also has done a lot of research for me to give me the info I need to stay balanced after the surgery.. since you do have to do liquids so the stomach can heal. so here are some of the things I did so you can know what to tell them if they are not in the know about BF. Pre-op: 10 days low carb balanced diet with reg food. meat, starch, fruit, veg, fats 2 days low carb liquid. I am having like 3 low carb slimfasts and drinking glucerna, creamy Soups blended to add up to the 1600 cal. (you can also have boost for diebetics, or other things like that) and then lots of fluids. Post op: 4 days clear liquid. I have bought isopure 40g of protien, and then boost breeze which is clear and like 200 cal a bottle.. so in the clear stage I will try to do 1 bottle of isopure and then as many bottles of the boost and other Clear Liquids to get the cals. 10 days liquid. this will be easier as it doesnt need to be low carb.. but my mom who had the bariatric stomach resection recommended (because of taste) the GNC brand of 100 whey protein which I will probably mix with milk to get more cals and then soups, milk and whatever else I want thats liquid to get the 1600 cals. I have also been drinking the mothers milk tea and drinking lots of fluids.. and so far its working. I will keep you updated on how it goes.. I am just nervous. I also have introduced new things into my daughter diet like some meat, cheese, eggs, fats.. just so i know she is covered.. she seems to be fine. my surgery is on friday! eeeek!
  7. Has anyone breastfed in the process of getting the band? my daughter is 10 months old and a great eater, so its not imparative that I continue but I would like to finish the last 2 months out like the American Academy of Peds suggests.. Heres my issue.. for the 2 week pre-op diet I was allowed to be on a diet of regular foods, low carb 1600 cal. becuase all the breast feeding studies say not to drop below that. then today (3 days before my surgery) my Nutritionist said she wants me to do liquids for 2 days before (I know nice warning!) I know its susposed to be low-carb but the low carb liquid diet I have has only 800 cal. you can see my delimma.. does anyone know how much Protein we can ingest in a day? because I am gonna have to have protein if I cant have carbs. any suggestions for good liquid cals? second.. I have to do clear liquid for 4 days after and I got Isopure and boost breeze for that but even if I drink 4 boosts, and 1 isopure with 40g protien I am still only at 1000-1200... ahhhhh I am stressed out!! I cant wait to be 5 days post-op! and hopefully my milk supply wont dry up by then!! (ps I have pumped a small storage of milk for the 24 hrs post op.. have to pump and dump 24hrs after..because of anthes)
  8. thanks for your responses. I have been getting some support from my lactation consultant at the hospital I had my daughter at.. I would like to keep BF my daughter passed the 12 month mark. its just a weird time for me because although she is only at the 10 month mark.. I want to get the lap band and lose some weight before #2 decides to come along.. so its a toss up.. risk with the low cals that I cant continue or wait and possibly get pregnant before i have the chance to do the LB. I guess I just have to TRUST that I wouldnt have been led this direction if it wasnt gonna all work out.. even with the low cals.. the extra pumping should help! thanks again for your responses there is just so much stuff to worry about! its seems if you try not to worry about the big problems..ie the surgery than its all the little things that nail you.. like calories

    In desperate need of advice...

i havent been banded yet but my parents had bariatric surgery and they told me all protien drinks are not created equal.. they tried all different ones till they found the one that sat right with them.. some are pretty yucky.. so maybe you should try different brands, kinds, and types until you find the one that sits right with you.
  11. thanks for the tip.. I will stock up before my surgery on friday!

    Christian bandsters

Hi long, I just look at it this way.. people dont need to know that you have the band.. its kind of personal.. you can just tell them that you are working with your doctor to eat small portions.. thats not a lie.. they dont need to know that the band is a tool to help you with your hunger. if we have a stint put in our heart we dont have to walk around telling people we are alive today because we have it.. people get too nosey.. you should only have to tell those people you want to.. people you know will support you. if people are being judgemental they dont need or deserve to know.. as Christians we should be supportive of one another. I truely believe that the band is a tool that God has given us to help us with a medical problem.. people wouldnt question it if you needed open heart surgery or if you needed glasses.. I have only told a few people that I trust for prayer support and they have been really supportive.
  13. shrinknme

    Whom did/will you tell?

I havent told anyone except my husband who is very supportive, my pastor and his wife and I close friend only for prayer support for the surgery, I was really feeling weird about it because I didnt want to lie to people.. but someone on this site told me that she just told people she was on a diet where she cut her portion sizes.. which is not a lie.. they dont need to know that the band is helping to control your hunger.. its not their business.. she said 'there are things you keep personal like your credit card number and pin and bra size..' to me this is just as personal as those. if you had a stint put in your heart you wouldnt have to walk around telling everyone that the reason you are here today is because you had a stint. everyone just gets so curious that they have to know every thing. if someone seriously questions me I will most likely tell them.. but for now I am dieting.. since with the band its mostly up to you anyways..because I can eat milkshakes all day not excercise and not lose a pound. my parents had the bypass and they told EVERYONE even if they didnt ask and it really made some people uncomfortable.. especially others who were still battling with their obesity and they couldnt afford to do something about it. do what you feel comfortable with.. everyones different.. some like to tell people and thats ok and others dont and thats ok too. ps I really dont want to tell my parents.. but we are camping with them 9 days after the surgery and i think they will notice a few things.

    Christian bandsters

thanks for the response.. yes I have a small supply in the freezer, but its mostly for the 24 hr period where I have to pump and dump after the surgery due to the anthes. I have a medela pump. I dont think the milk after the surgery wont be healthy for the baby.. its more that I have to try to get the right nutrients in so that I can keep up my supply. you are susposed to consume around 1600 cals to maintain a milk supply.. and thats a tall order when only allowed liquids on a healing stomach.. clear for the first 4 and then reg liquids for the next 10. I have been very creative in my research .. I have found clear liquid Protein, clear liquid powder for the 7 fruits and veg req., clear liquid Calcium, and of course these contain carbs..so I think I can balance it well.. I just told my husband I will probably be drinking non-stop due to the fact that I am only susposed to take small sips after surgery . I have faith that the Lord wouldnt have taken me this route and then not take care of the details like milk supply for my baby. my baby is also 10 months old and she is eating reg foods pretty well so it wouldnt be a travesty if I had to stop.. its just important to me to continue. Its just hard not to worry about all the little things before the surgery. like wondering if I will be able to care for her after surgery.. my husband is on a 2 week break from school and we are not telling anyone else (except a few prayer people) so my daughter will even be there the day of my surgery with my husband.. but once agian trying to turn those worries over to Him!:huh2: anyways sorry for the book.. but thanks for listening.. where are you in your journey?

    wedding pics

I am being banded on the 25th and I told my husband that I want us to have another wedding when I lose weight so I can get rid of the other photos. he said NO WAY. (our wedding was a bit stressful haha) then I said ok well then we just have to go for a photo shoot in wedding attire. I know what you mean.. I joke.. but I am actually glad I got married the way I was and not banded yet.. cause then I think part of me would wonder if I couldnt land my amazing husband unless I was skinny. now I know he loves me for who I am skinny or fat.
  18. I am due to be banded on the 25th and I have a lot of fears about it too. I dont have any co-morbities but I knew it was only a matter of time. I want to be around for a long time.. to be free to actually run and have fun! to be able to have the energy to give my husband and baby the time they deserve! so like they said above.. the lifestyle change and the minor surgery are definately worth gaining a life! you'll feel great about yourself.. not only that you lost weight.. but that you acomplished something!!

    Christian bandsters

Hey all I am being banded on the 25th of July. I am a Christian and have read a lot of the posts on this site and I have found them helpful.. because I too wondered how God felt about me having surgery. I agree that he gives us tools all the time and they are there for us to use to better ourselves. I guess I was having a hard time because when I prayed about it I heard nothing. I talked it over with my husband and he agreed with me that there are some things that God leaves up to us. I could have the surgery or I could continue my journey without it and God's ok with both. its my choice. so I am choosing to do it. I guess what makes me so nervous is I am a mother of a 10 month old. and I guess I worry that something could happen to me in surgery. Also I am still breastfeeding her and plan to continue until at least 12 months and I guess I worry about my milk supply declining after surgery because of the recovery and not being able to get the calories I need. I just feel responsible for her nutrition. I know God is with me but I guess these small worries are bringing on larger ones and I have been getting attacked. Part of me just wishes these 2 weeks would fly by.. so the surgery is over!

    Can I really do this?

wow thanks heather for your reply.. I am being banded on the 25th and its hard not to let your mind wander to all the fears of life being different. I told my husband tonight that I havent even really thought about losing the weight.. I have just thought about all the problems and senerios about how this foriegn thing is going to treat me.

    baby and port

yes you can have the lap-band and get pregnant.. thats the only reason I finally decided to have it done.. because my first is 9 mths old and I want more healthy kids.. they just open the band up for your preg and then tighten it after.. so you have a completely normal preg.
  24. shrinknme

    should I or shouldn't I??

I am due to be banded on the 25th.. I did a lot of research about the band before I made my decision.. there is a lot of good info out there and then there is a lot of info that is not based on facts... I would find something that was scary and then I would check the sources and it was a this person told this person and it wasnt based on facts.. as far as sucess rate I think anyone with the band will tell you that it mostly depends on you. if you are ready to make the life change than it can work for you.. if you use it to mainly get the weight off and then eat unhealthy because you feel like you are skinny and you can eat whatever than you will fail. its not a miracle worker its just an aid to help you get healthy. most of us are in this position because whether we over ate or not we just cant eat the way some skinny people can.. our bodies wont let us. also as someone else said on this site.. we are all unique.. the complications or non complications can vary because we vary.. everyone will have a different story I hope that helps.

    I'm miserable

you may have 2 things going on.. Itching is actually a normal sign and side effect of healing.. if it itches it means its healing.. with the rashes it sounds like on top of the itching from healing there is an allergic reaction. I wouldnt put anything on the wounds.. it could cause infection.. gently wash with soap and water.. make sure you rinse really well.. and then pat dry with clean paper towel. make sure its really dry.. I had problems with my incision from my c-section and that is what my surgen recommended and it helped it heal faster. I just kept a bunch of clean wash cloths in my shower, bar soap and a roll of paper towel and washed it like 2 times a day.
