hi i was banded on july 14th 2008 @ nyu by Dr. ren i just got my 1st fill on friday 4cc's i still feel kind of hungry is that normal im nervous that this will not work how many cc's can be put in the band or when should i start feeling full with a few bites i can eat a cup of food with no problem any advice!!! -
Hi had anyone here have surgery done by Dr. christine Ren @ NYU? Please let me know if you have i have a few questions? Thanks:biggrin:
-
when i had surgery the majority of the people who had it were much older then me i actually think it would be better to have the band when you r older because no matter what, surgery has some risks but with the band the risk are much less before, during and after surgery. the risk with gbs are high especially during anesthesia and also remember the band is reversible if you have a problem were as the gbs is permanent of course with gbs you will lose the weight faster but as you age the stomach can stretch and you can possibly gain weight but if you do gain some weight with the band you can get an adjustment and get back on track of course please b aware that the band is not a cure you have to put your part in it some form of exercise and watching what you eat you fill up much faster with the band but its easy to fill up on "bad foods" for example you can fill up on french fries and a milkshake which of course will not help you lose weight were as you can broil 2 ounces of salmon and some vegetables have the protein you need and feel much fuller. Good luck on your decision and remember no matter which one you choose you will you will have great results and its like starting a new life again let us know what you decided and remember we are here for you!!!

congrats u will do fine the pre-op liquid diet to me was the toughest i was so hungry lol but i think it was more mental cause i was allowed to have enough liquids i was in some pain after surgery but it lasted about 10 days now i feel great i have my 1st fill on friday im a little nervous about the needle but from what i hear its not to bad
-
Good luck!!! u will do fine congrats on your new journey pls keep us posted on how u r doing!!!!!
-
well there is no very long term study how long the band last but according to the Drs. and books i have read it should stay in you for ever i have even seen patients who "ate around the band" have a gbs and the surgeon does not remove the band as for fills the 1st year will be the toughest that is when u will need the most fills after that it should be around twice a yr including a yearly esophogram and blood work but the only way i c the band having to be removed is due to any complication that might arise but dont fret when u see the weight coming off u wont mind the 1 1/2 hr trip lol Good luck

i have my 1st fill on friday im very nervous also i saw a picture of the procedure on you-tube and it looked painful i hope it doesnt hurt im not crazy about needles!!!

choopie replied to divaofsongs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
that is great wish you had a video of it!!!! lol by the way congrats on your weight loss -
sippy cups r great i used it for 2 weeks after my surgery and it help me not to gulp my water which is something i would do a lot
-
well sweetie r u working out alot? cause muscle weighs more then fat and alot of times we dont c the number on the scale change but our clothes fit loser i wouldn't worry to much about it as long as you r losing inches that how most weight is measured anyway just like a bmi a person can weigh 250 but if the r very tall then they r not considered morbidly obese also a person weighing that weight can be all muscle there is a little machine that measure the amount of fat u have when the scale doesn't move it will help you c that you r doing well dont give up sooner or later the scale does catch up
-
well it's ultimately your decision on which surgery you choose but the reasons i decided with the band is the risk during surgery is less your organs r not being cut which is something permanent God forbid something goes wrong with the band it can be removed the complication after surgery are far greater in gbs there is a chance the staples can open up and you also have the dreaded dumping syndrome associated with gbs now if you want to lose weight fast then Gbs is for you because on the band you will lose weight but not as fast as gbs but with gbs you stomach can stretch out again in a few yrs. and you can regain the weight with the band if you do start to regain you can get a fill to help i would advice you to compare both very carefully cause ultimately it is a life altering decision no matter what you choose if you have a chance buy the book weight loss for dummies it's an excellent book the talks in layman's terms and compares all the types of surgeries available to you i hope this helps and i wish you the best of luck on your decision because no matter what you choose you will be a happier healthier person in the long run. GOOD LUCK

hi i was also banded @ nyu with Dr. ren congrats!!! u will feel some restriction the 1st couple of weeks but after the swelling goes down u will feel hungrier and you might b able to fit more food in but u want to try to eat in small increment so you dont vomit or stretch your pouch so have small meals and make sure you have your Protein 1st Good luck!!! -
sweetie u really need to call your Dr. it could be a number of things your band might b to tight or it could have slipped anything could b wrong u dont wont to lose weight the wrong way u can get dehydrated or worse u didnt get the band to lose weight and b sick all the time the purpose of the band is to live a better life with food so pls call your dr asap and have them check it out!! Good luck

i agree and congrats on your weight loss i hope to one day b there also i have a long road ahead but for the 1st time ever it feels like i also have a chance @ success and the road seem to have some light to it now take care and i wish you continued good luck on your journey
-
thank you thats exactly what i mean we all will make mistakes and your right sometimes at a cost and thats the reason i joined this group for support not to make me feel even guiltier for what i have done or will do thanks hope all is well
-
i understand what you r saying if you take it as a joke then of course they r wrong but in terms of being ready no is ever 100% ready you make the commitment and it's an everyday process i agree u should try your best and not put crap in your mouth but just b/c im a new banded person doesn't mean im gonna change my ways in a yr i agree with alot of what you r trying to say i know that you r trying to help by being honest but with a new banded person they need more support then criticism cause sometimes tough love doesn't work
-
well what you have to understand is not everyone is the same that is the reason most people got the surgery in the 1st place cause they got no self control now maybe u never cheated lucky you ur special but most of us have and the not feeling pity is wrong cause thats why we r here for support im not saying to those people who didn't follow the rules once keep on doing it but if they did then u now what, it's ok just try to do better look i have not cheated on my diet yet im 3 wks post op and allowed to eat solids but i choose to eat mushies still why b/c that my choice doesn't mean that tomorrow i wont have a piece of apple or sushi b/c according to my Drs. rules i can. Your supposed to bring people up not make them feel low everybody will cheat al least once even twice nobody purposely wants to sabotage themselves the surgery is done but now our minds need to be developed into a different type of thinking and that takes time it doesn't happen in one day look i know everybody has the right to their own opinion but making it seem like if "u cheat u die" is wrong. To all the people out there who have cheated sit down for a minute and c what made you do that there is always a underlying problem as to why we eat certain foods were you stressed, angry, depressed just know its not the end of the world get up brush your shoulders off and continue on every day you will improve remember its not a diet anymore it's a whole change in life whenever we sit down to eat take a minute or two look at your plate and say to yourself how will this affect me and my band and 9 times out of 10 if there is something inappropriate u will remove it. Good luck to everyone my prayers r with you that everyday you will get up feeling better about yourself and the choices you make
-
u know every Dr. has different rules im allowed to eat solids after 3 wks im not saying pizza is good b/c it is to doughy but we should all follow the Dr. rules with my Dr. after a fill its liquids for 2 days and mushies for 2 days then solids i dont think we should make anybody feel bad about eating a pizza we will all stray at one point and as long as she is following the Dr.s rules she will b fine and if she strays she needs our support not making her feel like she committed a crime.
