Surgery Yesterday- SOLUTIONS Needed 4 Should Pain & Few More Questions
rhondalou117 replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Here is a little known fact about your lapband. The port can certainly be causing your shoulder pain. Per my surgeon it can irritate a/the nerve and cause referred pain to your shoulder. I had it really bad for the first week or so and it has gotten better. Absolutly walk, walk, walk, and breathe, breathe, breathe on your IS. Gas pain should only last the first 3 days and if the shoulder pain persists it is most likely the port issue. I took only tylenol for my pain and for me it worked better, you are only getting 500mg of tylenol in the elixer typically. Good luck! Hope this helps, there is an end in sight. -
I found a DVD "weigh to win" it has 3 levels of exercise, the first level all exercises ar done sitting in a chair. And you do sweat, so if mobility is an issue right now, perhaps you might like to check this out? Good luck!:lovechoc:

Oh you and your logic..... Sigh, sure I can't fix it myself???:lovechoc: I was going to call the Bariatric nurse, she gave me her cell number. Just waiting for a reasonable time. As I am nightshift and she is days... Thanks for your input.

I am having a little issue with my port site, of course, I am a nurse and have been uh, treating myself, ahem. :lovechoc: Anyway last week the scab was catching on my clothes, so I revised it, trimmed it back some ect. Then I got a tiny amount of pus, no big, maybe didn't dry well from the shower, right? Dried it moved on... Last night scab catching again, sigh, I was revising it again and it came up, 1 cm open area at the end of my insicion, scant amount of pus, cleaned with saline, dabbed dry and secured with a butterfly. My follow up is on the 16th. Anyone else had a problem with the larger incisions healing? The three smallest are good.

New Bandster with BIG problem can you help?
rhondalou117 replied to Melange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded aug.8 and I have found what I eat play a large part of my hunger satisfaction. For example: 3 ounces of chicken keeps me full for 6 hours, where shrimp only keeps me full about 2. Of course follow the rules your doctor has given you. Mine says protien first. Do you meet with a nutritionist? How much protien are you getting a day? -
Look into the ESSURE, done in your docs office. In like 3 minutes.

RN's How long did you take off work?
rhondalou117 replied to ambraberger's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As an RN on a surgical floor we do a lot of lifting and I took two weeks off and smartly returned on my short week, man I was tired after those two days, and I was not prepared to be soo busy that I was unable to get a snack and my sugar dropped, while I was pushing some meds, I had our UC bring me a juice so I could finish. The next day went much better. but I was glad to have the weekend off to recouperate. My shift has been great with the lifting restriction. Protien, protien, protien. -
Real Hunger?
rhondalou117 replied to madame_avenged's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 8-8 and saw my doc and nutritionist on 8-13 and I see them again 9-16. I did feel hunger, some of that could be lack of protein. With all those clear liquids you know. I lost 8 pounds in those 5 days. Hope everything else is going well. I am eating anywhere between 1/2 cup to 1 cup per meal depending on what it is... -
I really liked atkins advantage, variety and taste.

One week out and feeling really good, glad I took the extra time off work. Hope everyone is doing well. I did have a bad day yesterday just felt like I needed some meat!! Hubby helped, made me a soup, it was great and just what I needed. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Those of you waiting to go, it isn't as bad as you think. Hang in there! I am having some left shoulder pain from time to time, MD says it is referred from the line and port, so anyone experiancing this type of pain a few days post, it is normal and will go away. Mine is already better. :mad2:

I was on clears for 48 hours and then I could add cream soups. Doing okay. Only having about 1/4 cup cream soup. Trying to get all my water in. I hear ya about those gas pains, just when I think theyv'e gone, hello, back again. LOL. Hang in there.

On 08/08/08 my surgery began at 0800, and would you believe I was discharged at 2000? <8 pm> LOL. Anyway, second day post op, some gas pain in my shoulders and mostly pain at the port site, the other sites are good. Just taking liquid tylenol just 3 times since I have been home. I have lortab elixir, but last time I took lortab I puked, don't really want to do that. Doing good I think. Tolerating fluids well. Get to have cream Soups today!!! :biggrin2: Its a good day. LOL. Walking, breathing and drinking on the agenda today. Hang in there everyone, it will get better.:crying:

I am still waiting for my insurance desicion, but I did send in pics from my childhood to present day, so I was no longer just a number. -
Congratulations and welcome! You have chosen one of the safest WLS out there. Is the plan to do a hyst with your lap-band?

8/8/08 @ 8 is my date. I have my all day education class this Friday. Then I suspect I will begin my preop diet. Either 6 carnation instant breakfasts or 4 atkins shakes a day for two weeks :scared2:. My BMI is over 60 and I think I might advise my surgeon if he can' t do it laproscopic he does not have premission to cut me from stem to stearn. DUDE! I have been an ER nurse, rehab nurse and now a post surgical floor nurse. Have been married to DH 8 years, is this my year or what, lots of eights... Anyway, my insurance is self funded and I am hoping they approve the procedure, being self funded they pretty much have carte-blanche what they are willing to civer or not. I was however reassured my presentation was wonderful, so we will see. I am bound by a request to keep any and all assistance confidential. I just hope they give me some assistance. I live in Odessa Tx and there is a wonderful Bariatric program here, however as I work nights it will be very inconvient to do thier support meetings r/t times available. I was beyond estatic to find this site. I have been overweight all my life, since age 5, I have struggled as I am sure all of you have. I have decided to live, I have twin nieces that just turned 2 and I want to see them grow up and I want to be a "big" part of thier lives not just the big embarassing aunt. I look at my recent pictures and think WTF? Who is that? :scared2:I don't feel that big and I want to release my inner thin person. Just a little bout me.....:biggrin2:

rhondalou117 replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just have to keep reminding yourself you have chosen the safest WLS around. The rate of mortality is super low, way better than with bypass. And look to the future and all the positive changes you are going to experiance. I try to keep it positive or I would totally talk myself out of it. Gonna be banded 8/8/08:thumbup: -
Anyone have pre-op diet suggestions
rhondalou117 replied to TravelLady48's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Pre-Op Diet for LAP-BAND Surgery About two weeks before your LAP-BAND surgery, your surgeon will have you begin a special diet. The pre-op diet is important because it is designed to get your body ready for surgery and make recovery easier. You will need to lose fat around your stomach and liver, as well as shrink the liver itself. If the liver is too large, the surgery may have to be postponed. The diet helps reduce potential bleeding that can accompany surgery by reducing fatty triglycerides from around the liver and spleen. A primary part of the pre-op diet is a Protein supplement. Myocel, a Protein powder, is designed to lower the fat content of the liver, maximize recovery, and promote weight loss. Myocel can be mixed in with skim milk, Water, fruit juice, or fat-free yogurt. Foods that will need to be decreased in your diet include high-sugar foods, high carbohydrate foods (including bread), fats (such as butter), fatty meats, fried foods, whole milk products, and alcohol. Your diet will be limited, but foods that may be included are yogurt, fruit, Cereal, eggs, oatmeal for Breakfast and lean meat or fish with green vegetables for dinner. Pre-op diets may vary between surgeons and patients, but you should always follow the recommendations of your doctor. My surgeon suggests either 6 carnation instant breakfasts a day or 4 atkins shakes for 1-2 weeks preop... -
My port is under my left boob!
rhondalou117 replied to kizzie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I am not mistaken, they should be able to move the port with just consious sedation. Kind of a twilight sleep and home you go...
