    No Stall

I am hoping I am going to avoid the stall. I have been stifling with the program to the letter. No cheating at all. Fingers crossed. It does seem like mostly women get the stall or is it just not men commenting. I know many more women than men get the surgery.

Good luck. I am 17 days post sleeve and down 43 total from pre op diet until now. So glad I did this. I hope things go well for you.

    First food after bypass

I have done a lot of canned tuna and chicken which mixed with yogurt and mayo goes down pretty well. I also had some ground turkey with taco seasonings and some lite sour cream as a lubricant to help get it down. That went pretty well also. The key is small bites and time between bites and it will be fine. Gotta go sloooooow. I made that mistake and ate too quickly and it felt like a bullet in the middle of my chest and a blockage.
  4. It sounds like you are either taking too big of a spoonful or you are putting them too close together, also known as "stacking". I had this happen to me a couple times. I find that smaller bites, putting down the fork, chewing aggressively and waiting a minute or two between bites is best for me. The food must be moist

    That Guy

Just keep focus and remember that the surgery is a tool. No different than a shovel or a hammer. You have to do all the other stuff like drinking a ton of water, walking every single day, getting the protein you need and taking vitamins. On top of that, and maybe even more important is the mental part of it. If you are one who craves and dreams about food all the time it is going to be a rough slog. You have to figure out how to beat the mental part of it if that is something that is an issue. I never had that, I just see the weight coming off and it motivates me to do more. Don't be afraid to reach out for mental help through a counselor or similar if you need it.
  7. Buy some chicken and/or beef bullion cubes or powders and dissolve them in boiling water for a broth. I found that the saltiness of the broth satisfied my hunger. I tried to eat something at about 5 days and it hurt my chest so I stopped and waited. It was enough of a scare to get eating out of my mind. I just stuck to the shakes and bone broth. YOu can also buy bone broth on Amazon and have it delivered if you need it.

    How fast is too fast?

I am sure your surgeon knows how much you have lost? I had to see my surgeon 7 days after surgery. I lost a little over 10 pounds and I am starting off over 100 pounds lighter, so I would not be too alarmed with it.

    One week from surgery

Evangeline.....I think you need something to distract you. During my "liquid diet" which is not really a liquid diet because you can east one meal at night, correct? The protein shakes should help a lot to quell the hunger and if you start to feel like you are hungry, which you are probably not hungry for real, go for a walk or something to take your mind off it. You should be seeing some weight fall off and that should motivate you. I am rarely hungry and more. The first sign of what feels like hunger I have a glass of water or clear protein drink and it seems to pass pretty quickly. You have to get over the "hunger" or you will be fighting this forever and it will not work. Unfortunately, the surgery is not a magic bullet and if you do not show willpower and control of your "hunger" you are going to lose it and gain it right back. Scroll through all the many posts on this forum and you will see just that. The people who are struggling with the weight are the people who focus on eating and hunger. Without tackling that, the new "tool", your sleeve or bypass will not work properly. A good screwdriver only works if you use it properly. If you do not, you strip the screw head and are in a worse position than before.

    Small NSV

I had the same experience recently. I went to try on clothing and tried on an XL and it was too big. I am now in a large from a 2X and it is very motivating! Now I am motivated to get into a medium for the first time in over 30 years.

Hate to say it but his insecurity is what is driving this. He is afraid that if you lose to much weight you will not want him around any more. He is insecure about himself and is pushing that off on you to halt your success. The best thing you can do is talk to him and educate him. You are going to look a little old and sickly at first when you drop a bunch of weight, but you will start to tighten up and look better over time in the face etc. Don't let his insecurity drive you to abandon your weight loss. He can either get with the program you are on or you can surely find someone else. Have confidence in yourself. Your health is more important than staying overweight to please him. He will come around, but if he doesn't you will be better off without him. Others will come along that appreciate your efforts and you will live longer for your efforts.

    Not feeling full?

I have a similar experience with water. After the first couple days I can pretty much drink water at will, any amount I want without any restriction or pain. I too thought WTF is going on and wondered what the point of the surgery was. Then, I tried solid food. If I eat too fast, eat something that is dry or take too big of a bite I feel it in the middle of my chest. It is pain and feels obstructed but I think in reality it is the esophagus constricting to get the food down. I am now eating very slowly...chew 30-40 times, small bites and I am able to get down about 4 ounces of food at a time. It seems to be working well for me as over the two weeks since surgery I have lost 17 pounds after I lost all the fluid weight from surgery. I am hardly hungry at all and even if I feel hungry, the excitement of the weight loss makes me move on from eating if I am over say 700 calories for the day.

    Immediate NSV after VSG!

You lost 43 pounds total including pre op diet. The weight loss is the reason for the drop in BP, not the surgery. You should see other improvements in the coming months.

    Post-op diet question

You are 5 weeks post op so I imagine you should be able to get more down than that. Are you holding off on drinking water before you sit to eat? Are you taking very, very small bites of food? Maybe if you are on soft or regular diet you should step back to puree and it may help a little. You may just not be healed as much as you should.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

I am 2 weeks post surgery and I just have not focused on food at all. I don't think about what I cannot have or what I miss. I am laser focused on drinking my required amount of water, doing my walking of atleast an hour a day even if I have to break it up over 2 sessions and finally, focusing on the good...the weight that is lost. It is motivating to me to see the weight falling off. I am losing about 8 pounds a week since the surgery after I lost almost 20 in the pre surgery diet. I don't want to ruin that so I focus on anything and everything I can except food. Besides, I cannot eat hardly anything without restriction, so it all works out. Focus on the FUTURE and get away from the past food etc.
  16. I cannot even imagine eating 10 ounces of anything. Your problem is fairly obviously too many calories and not enough exercise. Go out and walk for an hour a day, get rid of that cycle thing unless you do that AND walk. Use a calorie tracking app, Any one of them will work. Weigh every food item and know the calories. I wonder if after 10 ounces of food per meal if your sleeve is not stretched out and not useful any longer

    Burping

It gets better. I am right at 2 weeks post op and I don't have quite as much gas. But...think about it. Your stomach is smaller so there is less volume to hold any gas created, so you will burp a little more than you may have before. I am not really experiencing anything too out of control as I go into normal type foods.

    September Ops

If you are tracking your food and calories you should be ok. I use My Fitness Pal app and log every bit that goes in my mouth. A few ounces of food at each meal is all I eat. I am running around 600 calories a day and walking an hour total per day, usually in 2 walks. 80 ounces of water. I have no physical restriction to liquids.

    Chickpea "Pasta"

Chick peas are pretty high in carbs. I shy away from carbs because I want to stay in ketosis. I think that has been the guy to my weight loss so far. Low carb, low fat, high protein

    Brand new today!

The best things I brought to the hospital was a pair of gym shorts and a t shirt to walk around in. It made it easier for me to walk around dragging the IV tree without also worrying about keeping my robe closed or my butt from sticking out of the hospital gown. I was really able to get in a lot of walking and felt come comfortable in my own clothes when I had to be in bed.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

This of it as a percentage of total weight. If you weight 200 and lose 30 pounds you lost 15% of your body weight. If you now weight 270 and lose 15%, that is 15 pounds. So if you lose at the same RATE, you are going to lose less weight, in this case, 25 pounds. So you lose at the same rate, but it is less pounds. That said, the initial weight is going to come off at a faster rate, so if you drop that rate, it is going to come off more slowly from a lower weight so it seems slower than it really is, if that makes any sense.
