I think it's awesome that you could be open and inspire/help strangers even if it's by a short casual conversation.
Once I had a date confirmed for surgery I told my co-workers, parents and close friends as they were going to notice in time and I'd rather be upfront about it. However, have agreed with my husband not to discuss on his side of the family as his mum will repeat it to anyone who will listen. It's a bit frustrating as I'd rather be open and honest, but the judgmental in-laws don't help (always pushed me to just exercise/cross-fit without understanding my situation) nor do I think my surgery should be their gossip of the day. I've only recently been sleeved ~10 days ago and am currently in covid lock down so for now I carry on and wait and see what happens.
