  1. I am about 14 months post-op with Dr Illan, and my wife is about 2 months out with him as well. He is the greatest! BPMx is a first class organization - they cover every detail completely - all you have to do is get well. I highly recommend them and Dr Illan.
  2. I was in your shoes about this time last year - our insurance doesn't cover any bariatric procedures - and I ended up looking in Mexico mainly based on price. I had a friend who had used a dr near El Paso, TX - and really liked him - but he was pretty expensive - at least in my opinion. I did a little research on the Bariatric Pal forums and could find nothing even remotely troubling about Dr. Illan - and his price was one of the lowest I found. Long story short, I had my procedure this past January and was 100% satisfied - I've lost around 80 pounds - so happy that my wife is coming back in a couple of months to have the same thing done with Dr Illan - he's great, the facility is great, his whole team is fantastic, and the whole group that makes up BariatricPal MX is top-notch. If you pick them, you can put your mind at ease -and start shopping for smaller clothes!
  3. I had decided I wanted this procedure done, and when I heard my insurance didn't cover it, set out to looking for somewhere affordable, and of course someplace that I could trust. I had read reviews of several places - there were a few that were MUCH more expensive, and also a few that were cheaper. I emailed Bill a few questions, and was pleasantly surprised when he responded almost immediately. I filled out the health questionairre, then called Bill to discuss scheduling. I was really impressed with how organized they were - I went and watched the video of the Oasis of Hope hospital, and started reading everything I could find on Dr. Illan. After I got my surgery date, Stacey sent me the pre-op diet. I had a couple of questions for her, and also, got very quick responses. The day of the surgery, my wife and I flew to San Diego. Memo, a driver for BP MX, picked us up at the airport. He was awesome -put us at ease, told us all about the area - got my mind off the surgery. When we arrived at the hospital I was very impressed. I met several staff members, filled out some paperwork, and got ready for the pre-op tests. Somewhere along the way, Dr. Illan came in. He is nothing less than awesome. I had tons of questions, and he was so patient, answering everyone of them. Even my wife was impressed when he said he considers every patient a member of his family, and treats them as such. I pretty much lost any fear I had after that point. Surgery went well - the nurses were awesome, as were the other doctors I worked with. The valets treated my wife like a queen - walking with her to Starbucks, taking her out to dinner - she was well taken care of. The hotel at the casino is very nice. The rooms are very spacious and the people there were very friendly. We met our valet Juan, and he was incredible. He showed us the town and also showed me how to live with my new sleeve in the real world - this really turned out to be more like a vacation than a medical journey! I need to mention this site too - if you ever have questions or concerns, Bill, Stacey, even Dr.Illan! are right there to respond - you will never feel like you're in this on your own! I would recommend, without hesitation, Dr Illan, Bill, Stacey, and BP MX - I'm excited to be on this journey - and glad I picked BP MX to help me!

    Burping

I was sleeved in Mexico, and our valet said that post-sleeve burping is just a way of life. He also mentioned that you should not cover your mouth when you burp, when you do that, only half of the gas gets out - so now, I'm about the rudest person you'll see - and loving every minute of it!
  5. the main thing to do is avoid reading posts the closer you get to your date - I did NOT do that and got scared to death - because naturally, you will focus on the bad. The surgery is NOT bad - I had some minor gas pain right after - but was never in any real pain. I'm now about 10 days out and if not for my looser pants, would not know that I had surgery at all!
  6. I did great -as will you. I'm two days post-op - feel good. The valets at the hotel are taking us out shopping today - with a hidden agenda, to make us walk! this will help with the gas pains that you may have post-op - I still have a little, it's not a pain, just some pressure - and it will be gone soon. This place is run so well it would really be hard not to be successful - just 2 cents from someone who has VERY recently gone thru it!
  7. I'm having my sleeve tomorrow - and I would say the best advice is to just stay off these forums when you're this close. I've done the same thing as you, and I think I'm purposefully picking out the worst posts - it's the dumbest thing ever - why try to make this worse? I've decided I'm doing this - tomorrow, I'm going to say goodbye to most of my stomach - let's just do it!
