I used to be very athletic. I started taking care of my mother when she was very ill. While I was taking care of her I didn't realize how badly I was neglecting myself in many ways. I would just sit at the computer and eat and eat and eat. After so many years we moved where my brother and his wife could help me take care of my mom. She wound up passing away. That year I found out that I had diabetes, high blood pressure and nothing fit me. I had gotten up to 350. I lost a little bit of weight but gained a lot of it back when I fell and injured my knee. I was looking into surgery for it when I injured my other knee. I couldn't do much so I gained weight again.
I finally started getting things fixed. Medicine and surgery. I finally lost a lot of the weight but I was struggling to exercise and starving. I would wind up binge eating and giving up.
I started a new medicine for my diabetes and it helped me lose a bit of weight but I would get to a point and could lose no more. That is when I decided to research bariatric surgery again. I never thought I could have it. I took part in an online seminar that was free. I still did not know I could have it but I was interested anyway. I filled out the paperwork and sent it in. I was told by someone that they did not accept my insurance so I was like well, ok then. A couple of weeks later I got a call and it was from the surgeons office. I told them about the previous conversation with someone who told me my insurance was a no go. They were like what...hmm...anyway...They DID accept my insurance so they started setting me up with appointments to see the surgeon, heart, lung and a hematologist because I have a bleeding disorder. I had to talk to a shrink and have a lot of tests done. Saw all of my nutritionists and finally got my surgery date. I'm not quite two weeks out at this point. (3/11/22) I'm losing weight very slowly. Am on pureed but nothing is setting right with my tummy yet.
So anyway...I'm an old fart. I'm short and am sure I am going to have a lot of loose skin and that does worry me, but losing weight and not having diabetes and high blood pressure is awesome.
So...here I am on a journey.
I'm easy to talk to and am an open book. I like new friends.
Going to get older pics and I'm waiting a while for new ones.
