  1. I has been told that, but I didn't believe it would happen to me. I was also told I would lose hunger, and I didn't believe that, but thankfully it did happen and I forget to eat all the time. I, like you, really miss loving food. I had a bite of my husband's lamb chop last week and it didn't even phase me.
  2. I was in the hospital for 3 days.
  3. I just got converted after 7 years and it sucked but it was worth it. There is some tightening where the band was and it felt like I was still banded for about 6 weeks after. It loosened up by now, 12 weeks out, and I'm so glad I did it! The surgery was rough, though. Was in the hospital for 3 days. The first day, surgery was at 6, they didn't let me eat, drink, or sip anything--not even ice chips until the next day at breakfast because they wanted to be sure everything was good because of all of the calluses. Just want to give you a realistic picture.
  4. Shopping somewhere besides Lane Bryant for work clothes.

    Smoking with Surgery

I quit by vaping. It's been my most successful "quit." Almost 3 years now.
  6. My dr didn't allow vaping so I dropped to zero nicotine. Then after my surgery, I kept vaping but went back to 12 ejuice. I strangely didn't miss it for the first few week. I think the pain was all I could think about for the first few weeks. The pain pills probably helped too!

Greek yogurt helps you get protein and if you get plain, you can spruce it up with cinnamon and Splenda or cocoa and Splenda. Lots of ways to make it taste better.

    Joint pain

I think I figured out why this happens to me, at least. When I don't get enough protein, my knees start to hurt. When I get back to the recommended amount, it stop after two or three days of being consistent.
  9. This is the coolest thread! Your story is so inspiring! Keep up the good work!!
  10. Three months post-op and freezing! The exact opposite of pre-surgery!

    Had my surgery today!

Congratulations! I wish I hadn't waited seven years to revise!
  12. I don't even think about trying to eat slowly. I had been banded for 7 years when I got my revision. I need to work on that.

    Success With PCOS

I am 3 months out from RNY and have only lost 38 lbs. it's very discouraging, and I am sure it's because of the PCOS. Slowly, but surely, I guess.....

    First hard day (Mentally)

How in the world did you lose that much weight in 19 days? I'm 3.5 weeks out and have lost 21....and I've been behaving! Good work!

Greek yogurt helps me get my protein without over eating. The Fage brand, plain, has 20g of protein! I add Splenda, vanilla, and cinnamon; Splenda, vanilla, and cocoa; or Splenda, vanilla, and PB2 so it tastes delicious and I don't mind eating it. That's nearly 1/3 of a day's protein intake in 7oz of yogurt.

    GNC.COM Experience Isopure

I tried the ready to drink varieties of ISOPure, then made the mistake of thinking that I would like the powder. Any of them: chocolate, banana, strawberry, chocolate/peanut butter, you name it...DISGUSTING! I have to plug my nose to drink it. I'm trying to choke down as much as I can, but I finally broke down and went to GNC and bought ready to drink Lean Body...it's much tastier (and much more expensive).

    Lapband And Pcos

I appreciate the words of encouragement. I started exercising more vigorously and now, after my 3rd fill, I finally have restriction. Since I started losing weight, I've lost 63 lbs. The weight was coming off very slowly until Monday when he added another full CC to my 4 CC band. The 2 fills before that were about 3/4 CC a piece and I had very little restriction. Losing it this slowly is definitely discouraging sometimes, but even one pound per week is better than nothing. Hang in there and don't let the PCOS win!!

Should I ask the doc for Metformin/Glucophage?

Being on Metformin helped me lose about 45 lbs in one year. I was also walking about 2 miles per day and watching what I ate. It was actually easier for me to lose weight when I was on Ortho Tri-cyclen before I got married than with the Metformin, but I want to be clear that it did help. And I ovulate regularly now, as if I don't have PCOS. One could argue that it is because I lost some weight but the cycles became regular before I lost all the weight. If you have the option to get on Metformin, I'd do it! I still have dark skin around my neck, but my skin tags have slowed down and my acne has improved a little.

I knew it would happen but...

I started taking Metformin (1500mg per day) in June 2007 and it took about 2 or 3 months to get regular periods, but now I can write calendars by them...until my surgery. It was about 5 days late the month I got banded. I was terrified that I was pregnant, but nope. I figure it might have been the stress or the liquid diet.

    Lapband And Pcos

I'm glad I found this thread. I have PCOS, which I was diagnosed with in June 2007. I have lost 50 lbs since then, but only 6 of that since getting banded on July 3rd. It's so discouraging. There's a girl in my support group that lost 8 lbs in her first 2 weeks after surgery when I had only lost 2. I feel like a failure and everyone is watching me to make sure I succeed. I get my first fill on Wednesday, so maybe that will help. I have absolutely no restriction right now, and I haven't had any since the swelling went down in about the 3rd week after surgery. Oh well...I didn't gain it overnight either. And if I can lose another 50 lbs by this time next year I'll be one hot mama!! :wink2:
  21. After I read this yesterday, I went to find some protein shakes that weren't gross and I found EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control. It has 17g of protein and 2 carbs/1 dietary fiber. I'm drinking one right now and it is GREAT!!
  22. Joiful: One of the reasons I joined this forum was to find a good Protein shake. The Slim Fast "Low Carb Diet" shakes have more protein than the normal. 20 grams per shake. They're pretty thick, though. I'd also suggest getting a psychologist. I think when you get banded in the US, more doctors require an evaluation by one. Furthermore, going on the liquid diet is (besides shrinking your liver) a good way to kind of "detox" on food. After the 2nd day, I wasn't starving anymore. When I get bored or upset, my urge is still to eat, but the longer you adhere to the program, the easier it is to adhere to the program. Also, my psychologist told me that the fastest way to sabotage your program is to be secretive about it. Telling other people helps you stay accountable---to everyone! Just about all of my family and a good majority of the people that I'm forced to interact with (my son's daycare providers, fellow employees and church members) know about this. Some people won't agree with your decision but people at large are suprisingly encouraging and supportive. Telling people will only help your cause. I know a guy who only told me he had it done after I told him I planned on doing it. He started off at 450, lost 100, and the last time I talked to him had gained 50 of it back...and still eating as much as possible. Taking charge of your health is something to be proud of! You shouldn't hide it. No one said any of this was going to be the magic bullet. Get something specific that you eat when you're stressed out...like last night. Maybe sugar-free popsicles or sugar free Jello. HANG IN THERE!
  23. I was recently banded on July 3rd. I'm really looking forward to having full liquids soon. I'm so eager to see how this progresses. I've heard in some places that I can't eat rice anymore, but in some places I've read that I can. What's the deal with rice?? Thanks, Tasha
  24. Joiful: I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I'm probably more jealous than anything else that you got to eat a Big Mac and I didn't! Anyway, hang in there and as far as your businesses go... I personally decided the day after my surgery (just a couple of days ago) that I'm going to focus on my health and my 9-5 job. I own rental properties that are bringing me down and giving me unnecessary stress. If I can't sell them, then I'll let them go into foreclosure. I had to make some decisions on my priorities since something always has to give. For me, that meant putting my master's degree on hold for a little while, selling my properties, getting my health back on track and focusing on my husband, son and 9-5 job. All of this is easier said than done, BUT you've already made the bold step of being banded. Don't make it all for nothing. There are people that never lose weight with the band, you know. And some that gain. I just don't want to be one of them.
