    Success With PCOS

Hey, I thought I would post a quick update. My surgery was 3 years ago this week and I lost a total of 108 lbs. I’m down to 167! It’s been slow, yes, but if you eat reasonably you’ll eventually lose the weight. My goal weight (normal BMI) is 151.

    Success With PCOS

I don’t think the pcos had any bearing on getting approved. The main items that were under consideration were my weight and track record of not being able to achieve a healthy weight.
  3. Hi all, I've been slowly but surely getting closer to my goal of 150-160. Sunday marked 18 months since my revision. It was not a walk in the park, but completely worth it. I have PCOS, and the insulin resistance was making it virtually impossible to lose weight. I've got a few other posts out there with pictures documenting my progress over time. I'll post a before and after picture on this post as well. I post because I was completely discouraged by six months out--I wasn't losing as fast as others that post here and it was getting me down. Hopefully other people can be reassured by this post that if you follow the eating plan, you will eventually lose weight no matter how lousy your metabolism. Here goes: winter 2014 and this morning
  4. You'll get there. After the first six months, I'm only losing about a lb per week, and sometimes less!

    16 months out

18 months out now. 106 lbs lost. Down to 169.
  6. I'm a little more than 16 months out. My surgery was in July 2015. I was converting from lap band to gastric bypass. Best thing I ever did. I have PCOS with insulin resistance that lap band would never cure. My last update was at one year. I've made a little progress since then so I thought I would share. On the day of surgery, I weighed 275. At one year, I weighed 188. Today I weigh 174. I met with a plastic surgeon last summer who specializes with dramatic weight loss, but my insurance won't cover the lower body lift. At this point, I'm about to switch insurance anyway after switching jobs, so I'll try again in a few months. Ideally, I'd like to get to 150, however my official goal that I discussed with the medical team was 170. If I can't get insurance to cover it, i'll self-pay. I'll be damned if I've lost all this weight and have to keep a jiggly belly. To be fair, I have two year old twins (and two others), and the twins were EACH 7lbs 1oz. My belly needs serious help! Anyway, I'll attach an old picture and some recent ones. Enjoy!

No need to be ashamed of self you come a long way from where you started from! But wanted to ask what are your children ages ?Was asking because my sister has twin girls and she was telling me about this free exercise she does twice a week where people meet up with there kids and do this workout called mommy & me at a local park .I thought that was so wonderful anywho if you can find the time maybe look into that R4C They're two--will be three in April. That's not a bad idea! My husband just suggested we get a family membership to a health club. We belonged there in the past. It's incredibly kid friendly, with a cool "club" for them to play in--AKA babysitting that is included in the membership. There's also an Olympic sized pool and a small Water park that the kids just love!

Thank you so much! The hard work was well worth it! If I had unlimited money, I would get my inner thighs done, jiggly arms, a full body lift, and breast augmentation. My stomach is the worst of my problems and my highest priority. For whatever reason, I haven't had a big problem with back fat.

Thank you! I'm pretty sure exercising would no longer be the torture I remember it as when I weighed 250+. I am finally starting to get the itch to start exercising again.

Jessakate: I don't exercise at all, however, I am moderately active in chasing my four kids around at night. I am ashamed of myself and I know if I worked out, I'd lose more/faster.

Thanks for the tip! I would be open to financing it for sure!

I would say that you shouldn't waste any more time--convert to rny if you can. It is the only thing that has worked for me!
  13. You guys--how are you doing these days? I shopped in regular sizes a few weeks ago! First time since high school! I'm still looking forward to skinny jeans because I just ain't feeling it yet! What are you looking forward to and what have you achieved?
  14. I'm very happy for you and extremely jealous! I'm going to harness my jealousy into motivation to lose this last 24 lbs!!!! Rock on!

    Success With PCOS

I have PCOS and got the band. Big mistake. The band and sleeve do not address your metabolic issues like gastric bypass. People lose their hair, I think, because they don't consume enough protein. My hair loss was hardly noticeable. BPD/DS was not available to me--my weight was "only 275."
  16. Alright, updates please! I'm down to my lowest adult weight and I wore shorts this summer! I didn't even realize I wanted to do that. I forgot what it was like to have shorts!
  17. Hi everyone! Today marks one year since I got my lap band revised to gastric bypass. I've lost a total of 87 lbs so far. 275 to 188. I am 5'5" so I still have about 30-35 lbs I'd like to lose. I was very discouraged a few months ago, but I left my pity party behind and made sure I was sticking to eating well. This is not always easy! I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon in late August. I have some sagging skin on my stomach, inner thighs, and arms but nothing too horrible. Also of note, I have PCOS, which always made it harder to lose. The surgery has definitely helped with this and it seems to get easier to lose weight the more weight I lose. It seems counter-intuitive but I think the insulin resistance that often comes with PCOS has abated. I'll attach a before and after pic. Picture 1-I'm on the right holding my new nephew last June. Picture 2-selfie! Picture 3-me in the middle. I posted this on purpose so you can see that I will definitely need a tummy tuck.
  18. I love your list, Candygyrl!
  19. I suffered with lap band for about 8 years and finally decided to get it converted to RNY last year. I had the surgery July 15th, so tomorrow will be exactly 10 months. I think progress is going a little slower for me because 1) this is a conversion, and 2) I have PCOS and have historically not been able to lose weight on anything other than long term starvation. Even that wasn't working by the time I converted. As of this morning, I've lost 78 lbs and feel wonderful. I started at 275, so I'm finally comfortably in ONE-DERLAND! If you're hesitating to convert for any reason, I say DON't. Here are before and after pictures. I'm on the right, next to my sister in the before picture.
  20. It's been a while since anyone posted here. We were writing these in October. Have any of them come true? I took a plane ride earlier this week and I have extra room left in the seat! And I got my season pass to great America and I'm going to ride EVERYTHING!

    10 months after conversion

Hi guys- I'm checking in again now that I'm 11 months out. I've now lost 83 lbs and am down to 192. 40 lbs to go! And I've got a consultation with a plastic surgeon in August. We probably won't do anything for a while but I want to know my options. I included a recent picture. As you can see, my abdominal area is in rough shape after 4 kids! The last two were twins that each weighed 7 lbs the day they were born!

Thank you so much. It is so hard when I come to these forums and read about people losing 90lbs in 6 months. For I while it made me feel like a failure. Only recently, I've started getting comments from people about how great I look and I realize that even though the weight is coming off slowly, it's still coming off! My stretch goal is to lose 45 more lbs, but I would still be over the moon to lose 25. I haven't weighed this 'little' since 2001.
