lapband failure
RestlessMonkey replied to back-where-i-started's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is a forum for this type of post (you're in "introductions") If you'll scroll down through the forums I'm sure you'll find it, and perhaps the encouragement you're looking for. -
Anyone used Dr. Nilesh Patel in San Antonio TX?
RestlessMonkey replied to abedgood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Dr Sonny Cavazos who's head of bariatrics at Northeast Baptist; there's a section here for surgeons (it's a forum, you can scroll down) but I don't think anyone has posted there about Dr. Patel. -
Sick(nautious), but different this time
RestlessMonkey replied to als74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We don't all have those issues, though. I knew going in we'd all be different, and my doc stressed that the old way of "FULL" was wrong. He says "eat until satisfied, NOT FULL"....sorry you weren't better prepared! -
Frustrated and need a little support...
RestlessMonkey replied to vjsmiles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry, you're wrong. I wish you weren't. You can overeat by grazing, or eating softer foods, or things like chips, enchiladas, etc...it's a little different for each person but no, the band doesn't make it impossible to overeat as long as you avoid the high fat dairy treats you mentioned. It makes it EASIER to control overeating, and EASIER to make "good" choices. But not impossible to circumvent it, or most everyone would lose most all their excess. It's a great tool. But it isn't a panacea. -

You know I was a little short..I should've said that each nutritionsit, doc, etc seem to have their own rationale for things, so why mine says something is a no no may not be the same reason. I got distracted and should've been a little more wordy! See, sunflower seeds aren't forbidden to me, nor is hard candy, etc.... So if I was short in my answer, you were gracious anyway! AND I am a firm believer that each person should follow his/her doc's orders, mostly! IF you don't trust him, don't use him. if you do, give his viewpoint a chance; they are the pro's here.
-
Why not call the nutritionist tomorrow and ask?

Unexpedted negativity!!
RestlessMonkey replied to rmanns00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why didn't you ask him why he brought it up then? He may have meant it as an odd compliment...you've lost 20, not everyone does, or some such. We dont' know what he meant or why; you should've asked. -
Headhunter oh pal...it's really in bad form to make fun of a person's looks...but you are absolutely RIGHT !!! ROFLMAO

Went to my seminar last night.....
RestlessMonkey replied to cmdtl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good! :smile2: There are bunches of really good surgeons out there so if this one is charging a fee "illegally", then you'll find a great one who is more honest. I know they have to make a living but not unfairly! -
Usually what insurance requires, insurance covers...otherwise there's no real need for the psych consult etc. It's just an added expense, IMHO. It's rare that someone who isn't really "right" for the band is caught this way! :smile2: And the more "medical" consults should be covered because they inform the surgeon and can provide optimum outcomes during surgery.

Bigmomma don't pay that 1k "fee" until you check with your insurance to find out that what the fee covers is NOT covered by insurance. Please. Save yourself some bucks. (If you have a bunch to toss around, i could use some! :smile2: ) -
Had surgery on 6/30....hungry

CRUSHING pain IS a symptom of a heart attack. Good grief call your regular doc then, or go to a regional hospital. Don't be foolish. If it's nothing, then good for you. I'm done entreating you to call; you're a grown up. But to do nothing until tomorrow is, well, silly at best. Unless you are a drama queen and your pain really ISN"T crushing. ? Not being tacky either; just trying to get across via the written word how important it is you take care of it NOW. -

Call your doc tomorrow and ask what else you can have; usually when we're healing you can have pretty much "unlimited" liquid BUT...it depends totally on what the doc says. I for example couldn't have the pudding, but I could have sugar free jello. Ask your doc! :smile2: And hang in there! It will be over soon and it's worth it to let everything heal like it's supposed to. -
this is such BS! Usually INSURANCE (if you have it) covers "the necessary preop procedures"...psych consult, any tests (x ray GI series ultrasound, blood work cardiac consult whatever!) and your visits to surgeon as well! Good grief they shouldn't be charging "fees". Period!

Did you call your doctor? Please, if you didn't; I don't know how old you are, your health history etc but "crushing" chest pain should NEVER be ignored, even if you are 20 and petite and at the perfect weight. -
There are a LOT of people who eat rice and aren't fat. It's important to remember that, too. All things in moderation, Grasshopper! :smile2:

WHEN you can...would you post to let me know you're ok? It's maybe nothing, but it's nothing to play around with. -

If you can't reach your doc call 911. Crushing pain in the chest is NOTHING to fool around with. -

How long before "regular" food?
RestlessMonkey replied to Rutiglius's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oddly refrieds were the "food" I longed for too. I even got a can of them out of the panty and sat and CRIED over them. How sad is that!?! LOL You'll do marvelously! :smile2: -

TheArchitects...I'd skip the chips for now; they may be a slider but they aren't a mushie. Give yourself a chance to heal; you have a more generous post op diet than a lot of us, so I know you can hang in there! They won't quit making chips between now and the time you're finally cleared for take off! :smile2: -
Agreed...or to say "once your post op diet allows it" You are always supportive; sometimes though it's hard to read between the lines! :wink2: (I've been called to task on this type of thing too so I didn't mean to embarass you, if I did)

willowcat, under no circumstances should anyone eat ahead of her or his post op diet as given by each surgeon. Since OP is just over 1 week banded, it's possible that anything chewable is still on the "do not" list. IF a person is newly post op and really really REALLY struggling with the diet as given to them by his/her surgeon, then contact the doc and ask for direction. Eating ahead of a post op plan is a major cause of slips. I know we're here to help; but we all should follow our docs pre- and post-op diets. Yes they vary, but then so do docs and their surgery "styles" and their client bases. We don't know enough to encourage someone to do something other than what the docs have said, especially at the early stages.
