    Seriously curious

OMG now I'm hot beyond words. Just imagining pink hair and the cone bra.......:laugh: Where is that damn donkey
  2. It's partly anesthesia but also other reasons...anyone who was active and suddenly becomes bedridden is at risk. The cause is "atelectasis" and Fluid collects in your lungs. When we lie in bed we breathe more shallowly than when we are up and moving. Fluid doesn't belong in the lungs...while they are moist, they are meant to hold air, not liquid. Deep breathing takes care of this. That's why you're given an incentive spirometer and told to use it. Walking post op also helps clear your lungs (as well as improve circulation and prevent clots) As long as you aren't one of those to take your pain med and sleep round the clock, you'll be ok. The pneumonia doesn't just BANG happen. There are indicators, including a very mild fever. So walk, use your spirometer, sit up when you can (that helps too) and you'll be fine!

    a week post-op and miserable

Call your surgeon on monday. You must be able to get at least most of the 64oz min fluids in each day or you will quickly become dehydrated and end up in the er. Odds are your surgeon put some fill in your band during surgery and you, like many many others, are not reacting well to that. Many find it's better to HEAL first and then start restricting. I don't know though if that's the case with you; either way by now you should be able to drink liquids fine. Call your surgeon Monday and get checked out. Did you not have an appt at 1 week post op? When is your first post op appt?

    Band Slippage

This early post op, yes it could. Call your surgeon on Monday and let him know; they may want to do an x-ray or barium swallow test. Since you are so soon post op and on liquids, I am not sure what symptoms you'd have...pain? Or maybe none? Odds are you're ok; lots of people are nauseated post op. But it's better to be safe than sorry. Call Monday if for no other reason than your own peace of mind.

    Seriously curious

I haven't even cracked a nursing book since May 4, the day before my last final. HOWEVER I figure either I know it or I don't. Better to find out now if I don't...and a week or two of hysterical study won't make the diff. Can you tell I don't suffer from test anxiety? LOL I am going to review though...by taking "sample" NCLEXes. If I have a huge data gap, that should reveal it. I think I'll pass; we'll see. If not, better I find out and take steps to correct it. I'm thinking/hoping to go into psych nursing anyway (which many nurses don't even consider part of the profession...) we'll see! Pass the NCLEX then I'll worry about what to do.

I thought plain Lives in a u-haul. At least, that's what he told me when he showed me his, um, toys. Slim is always ready for fun. Take my word on that one! She's a good wingman.

    Seriously curious

I'm all excited cuz at the last appt my doc told me that if carbonation doesn't hurt, I can drink beer etc. Very exciting  BUT tonight I have to start reviewing for the NCLEX. Have to take the darn thing 8/19 and I barely remember how to spell RN. LOL Ok not that bad but still... guess it would be really dumb to drink and review unless i plan to test drunk, too.

    question

You update your ticker by going to the ticker factory, signing in, and updating your data you do it on THEIR website, not LBT
  12. Welcome and good luck! I think that you'll find like many of us that the changes aren't that drastic. Except for getting thinner and healthier. I still eat what my husband does (when I want to) I just don't eat as much as he does. Telling is personal and whatever you decide will undoubtedly work for you. Get through the preop and post op diets .... don't cheat (they are finite, you can do it) and then let it all unfold. It will be marvelous!

I'd hang my head in shame if I weren't a monkey. Instead I'll just go fling some poo.

    Not sure what to do!!

Something else...I don't know WHEN you ate the chili but now that I am pretty well restricted I know it's best if I leave AT LEAST 2 hours between "last food" and bed. Actually, 4 is better. The band is working properly to delay emptying into the rest of the stomach..but think logically. If you eat and it hasn't emptied and it still has food in it when you lie down, it's going to come back up. The stomach is still working at digesting your meal, some may still be IN The pouch, and things kind of, well, wash back up. This isn't always the case but if you never had reflux before, you might look at when you ate vs when you went to bed.

    Not sure what to do!!

If you can get liquids down, and you want to, just do liquids until Monday and see how you feel. It's possible you're just agitated from the fill. Anytime my doc gives me a fill he feels will be fairly restrictive, he tells me to do liquids for 48 hours, then mushies for 48, then solids. You might try that. How filled WERE you before the 8.5...where were you at? AND have you had a little trouble adjusting before now (that would indicate that you swell with a fill)

    Seriously curious

Ok you wild women I have a small sliver of a life...ie need to do laundry...so I'm going to drink a protein shake for lunch, contemplate the band "down there" (novel idea that; I always thought of "necklace" as the sole alternative) and wonder who on the board wears a Madonna cone bra and a pink wig. Play nice.

WHO is outbidding me? I'll RUIN that person for LBT. And did they offer a skunk AND an "o"possum? Huh HUH? You know you want the skunk.
