From Supportive Husband to Insecure Husband..
RestlessMonkey replied to jenz75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think I'm just one of those women whom, if my husband thought I was just with him because I was fat and couldn't do better, I'd pitch an unholy conniption fit. I know lots of women think the behavior is cute or "just like a man" but good grief I've been married 25 years and would've walked out in a heartbeat at any point (including tonight) if I didn't love him and believe 100% he's the man for me. We were married when I was much thinner, too. So if he tells me "I think you're going to go look for a man..." well, that makes me sound like a female dog in heat or something and I find that totally insulting. That's just me of course. But I obviously can't help you. LOL This is one of soap boxes. Jealousy isn't cute. Its controlling. -
I think EVERYONE is hungry a few days post op. At least, that's what I've read. Someone would have to force feed me to get me to eat though; I'm too scared of hurting my pouch or it not healing right. After my liver fiasco I've learned to do what my doc says. I can take hunger for a while. It won't be the first time.

Surgery - without getting all that appropriate info first
RestlessMonkey replied to *Love*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think people get that info and just think it will be different for them. I'm sure you're proud of yourself and you've earned it... my doc's directions to me, however, are different from yours so I'll do what he says. We're all grownups here; if people want to eat the wrong stuff, drink, or overeat it's their call. Not for me to judge, anyway! -

I don't have a clue where this is coming from. My doc told me it's a tool and how I need to eat. I've had nutrition and consults. I think most of us have. Some people choose to ignore it. We're human. So? -
OMG!!! I feel....

Ok thanks for your honesty! I had the surgery but no band (liver fatty) and the doc told me that how I fared then would be how I fared with the band, except more soreness around the port location. So I'm good to go! Thanks! -
with NO insurance, what does this thing actually cost???
RestlessMonkey replied to jmegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just attended the seminar 7/10 and my surgeon charges 15k for the lap band (free fills for 1 year) and 19k for GBS. They ARE all different; but don't go on price alone. Pick a good one; you're worth it. So far I just love Dr. Cavazos. He's very approachable but very skilled. -
See, the 1st week post op we are to just get WATER and then clear broth. That's IT. Protein shakes come in week 2.

I know it seems odd to ask him but different surgeons have different rules and it makes sense. They are all human and have their own way of doing the surgery and their patients are bound to heal diffently! So good luck I hope he tells you it's ok!

lshelley you need to ask your doc.....

Shh.. Can you keep a secret??

I'm a senior, I have this semester and next. I tried to have my band done earlier, but it didn't work out! We don't even have our clinical assignments yet but my first clinical day will be Sept 8 9 or 10. I'll just hope for the 10th. I've thought about telling the dean and my instructor but have to make sure my surgeon will give me a release or I'll be in deeep deeeep hooey if you get my drift. I honestly think if I CAN tell my dean/instructor they'll be supportive and glad I'm taking steps to control my obesity. And I'm thinking it will only get easier as the semester goes on. This semester i have peds and then mid Nov management...that is going to be grueling with 3 clinicals a week. So I have to be ready to go pretty soon here! Do you have school this fall? -

Ali what was bad about your first week, if you don't mind me asking? -
Go to a dermatologist and get checked out.
-
Welcome! I can hardly wait to be banded and not hungry. I feel like I've been starving since 7/25!
-
CHeryl1952 sorry are you asking me or OP?
-
Problems during fills, doctor keeps missing port.
RestlessMonkey replied to RosyPosy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The band's been around since 1993. So that isn't 30 years and that doc is FOS as we say here! Goodness. -
Long2Bfree ... if it's all over, then it isn't sinus, or just stress. If you are hydrated (and you know you are) then I'm at a loss. I'd keep an "eye" on it and check with my doc if they didn't improve, especially since you know your BP etc are all ok!
-
When's the last time you had your eyes checked? Where on your head is the headache?
-
Ckelly didn't your doc tell you how much or what brand? I'm told preop to only have EAS Carb control AdvantEdge (not myoplex) shakes...post op that or isopure. Each is different. What does your surgeon say? Don't buy stuff before you check w/him or her...you may waste your money!

Wow tas what kind of snake pit do you work in? That's immature and harsh. -
Good. I was nervous when I had my gallbladder out in 2003 because to me at the time, hospitals "killed people"...LOL I'd lost my mom in 92 and my dad in 97 and except for my little sister who had babies in hospitals (babies don't count) people DIED in those places. AND my DH is a nurse and thought I was totally high maintenance hysterica. I HAD to have my GB out and found out I was so so interested in what they were doing and why and how the OR actually looked (not at ALL like on tv) and I sailed thru the surgery and anesthesia (when I came to in recovery I heard my nurse tell another nurse ...OMG she's awake already?) LOL I was 48 and weighed 340 at the time. So I can tell you it IS scary but odds are high high you'll do well. AND you are right. If you have a feeling of doom that day, pass. Nervous jitters...you'll do fine!

Hey Carrie C! I'm not sure how to handle my 1st clinical for this semester. I'm sure I'll be good fairly quickly, but I'm worried about staying hydrated. They frown on us doing ANYTHING "personal" (like using the restroom LOL) while we are on clinical. How did you handle that, or did you manage to get your surgery done while school was out? -

CynthiaMac do you have a fairly sedentary (ie desk type) job? If you don't mind me asking. I'm getting surgery and have to be back in nursing school on Tuesday.. -
Getting banded on monday the 25th
RestlessMonkey replied to beautifult's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The overnight stay is just smart, my surgeon requires everyone stay overnite. His nurse told me "You can be dancing down the halls postop and you are STILL staying overnight" That's just to make sure we're doing really good before he turns us loose. -
Melissa if you're really that scared, talk to your nurse in your surgeon's office. You do know if you are young and relatively healthy, except for obesity, that the odds of you dying are slim? You could also die tomorrow from being struck by lightning, or a bus, or a fall in the shower. If you know all that and are still so scared, and the nurse can't soothe you, don't do it. period. I'm 53, weighed 405, and sailed through the surgery. I didn't get the band because my liver was too fat so I'm having it AGAIN 8/29. Modern anesthesia is a marvel; I know you'll do fine. BUT if you truly deeply doubt, don't do it.
