Post Op Hunger
RestlessMonkey replied to AtlSpeedy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I got pudding! I don't get mushies until week 3! I was told we wouldn't be hungry for several days because of the band placement and so on, but no. I'm hungry. I could eat a cow. -
HELP!! :-( I have a bad case of the poops
RestlessMonkey replied to MiniVanMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you drink some gatorade? I'm serious about it...husband's an RN I'm a student nurse. It will help you feel a lot better. Won't stop the runs but will help. -
Thank you. It is a silly thing to fret over, and I am so glad I have my band! And I know I have to chew and learn a new way of eating and so on...none of that phases me; I'm up for the challenge! BUT the thought of always burping everytime I eat or drink, even if I'm out with friends, etc...no way.

And just FYI Gatorade is great to have on hand for the runs. You don't need just hydration if you lose that much liquid... makes sense if you think about it. THat's one reason you're so shakey. You'll feel a LOT better once you get some on board. -

I think gatorade makes a "light" but if not, have the full stuff. Seriously, if you've gone that much your electrolytes are messed up. A little (2 oz, 4 oz ) gatorade, see if you can keep it in. then a little more. If you need it it won't taste super salty to you. -
I was banded yesterday too! Welcome!

Do you have any gatorade? If so, drink some of it. pronto! It will help you feel better and less shaky. If you don't, have your husband pick some up for you. -
Post Op Hunger
RestlessMonkey replied to AtlSpeedy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Uh ME! I had my surgery yesterday and was hungry last night! I'm STILL hungry. It's not head hunger either. it's my body saying "Hello we haven't had food since noon on thursday. Are you insane? FEED ME" I tell it "You have the band" and it says "But I can't eat that!" It's gonna be a looong 2 weeks I refuse to "cheat" but man, I am going to be one mean woman before this is over! -
I'm the burpy monster!
RestlessMonkey replied to ShrinkyDink's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not burping with liquids and I pray I don't with food. This is very distressing to me! -
I have a totally newbie type question that you nice ladies have likely already answered, but I'm daunted by 42 pages of posts and so will re-ask. Do you always BURP when you eat? I'm not burping (1 day post op) on liquids. I was taught that burping in public is RUDE and if you have to do it, cover your mouth, excuse yourself, and move on. I can learn to be non-judgmental of others but personally I would really rather not think that when i go out to eat I'll be burping all the time. Please tell me it's just an "early days" thing, or a "some people' thing? It's a silly thing to be worried about, I guess...I can go without carbonation, I can do without gum or straws or popcorn. I have no worries about having a device inside. But If I have to face a lifetime of burping a lot after meals, I may just have to go on a crying jag. HELP!

Beats me I don't get food yet! Did you burp when you were on liquids? I hope I don't burp burp burp it will drive me insane (short trip) -
Sorry your surgeon is so far away. Mine does fills at 6 weeks post op and I don't know beyond that yet...and liquid diets...all surgeons are different. All I can say is do what your surgeon tells YOU to do....your surgeon is best equipped to know his style and how patients respond. i was on a preop liquid diet for 3 weeks (because of my size) and my liver was still too fatty (I had modified the surgeon's diet and still lost 15...but not the right way) so I had to follow the preop diet another 2 1/2 weeks. post op I am on Clear liquids for a week, clear liquids and Protein drink week 2, then week 3-4 I get to eat Mushies (things like eggs, maltomeal, milk, yogurt, etc...) your surgeon will have his own timeline for these things! Congratulations on getting approved, by the way! I have only had my band 1 day but I'm glad I've done this.

Anyone have difficulty being intubated?
RestlessMonkey replied to marie715's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And patients prefer to be knocked out when it happens, too! -
Does this exclusion include WLS?
RestlessMonkey replied to amanda2008's topic in Insurance & Financing
I think you need to call them and ask. I belive it is probably excluded. Sorry, hope I'm wrong! -
Drinking from a straw...
RestlessMonkey replied to PaulaTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Drinking from a straw...
RestlessMonkey replied to PaulaTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now (day 2 post op) I've had Water, some diet green tea with artificial sweetener, some chicken broth, and yesterday I also had some beef broth. I am stiffer today (makes sense) but I slept good...I can drink several swallows at a time but only do that when I forget myself...afraid i'll hurt something LOL I am hungry, too. It's going to be a long long time to mushies! My doc won't even let us have Protein shakes until week 2! I go for the first follow up on weds though and if I'm doing well maybe he'll let me have Protein Shakes before friday! I feel ok; not really back to normal yet but honestly, I've felt worse and more out of it when I had bronchitis. I haven't taken any pain meds except tylenol. As long as I remember to get up and move around I feel better! It's not bad. I've been through worse. I'd take this over a corporate meeting, for example! LOL And I am so happy to have the band. I can finally imagine a life not enslaved to food, the scale, the next diet.... -
good for you! Let us know how it goes!

At my seminar, they told us if you snack a lot, the lap band isn't for you. I did snack at night after supper but am not a day time grazer; I don't eat at school, work, in car etc. I figured I could handle the night stuff with some behavioral therapy I learned from 10 months of that. I say go to several seminars (they are free) and get info for yourself. And flowers i grew up in El Paso. You couldn't hold a gun to my head and make me get any medical care in Juarez! Thank goodness your surgery went ok! -
Drinking from a straw...
RestlessMonkey replied to PaulaTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok i just tried it (alone at home LOL) and I can dry man burp pretty well. I'd better leave the straws in the pantry for now LOL -
Drinking from a straw...
RestlessMonkey replied to PaulaTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess I'm just too old fashioned LOL but I would rather pass on the straw and not do all the burping. I was taught it was rude to burp in public and I can't overcome that! -
Yucky Protein/Carb Blocker Drink...HELP!!!
RestlessMonkey replied to rodriguezequal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't like the eas shakes at first (when I am hungry, I want food, not something sweet and chocolate or vanilla or fruity) but they did the trick for me. They don't taste that bad after the first few days, either. Now I'm on liquids and don't get even shakes until next friday ... Do what your doc says until you can ask him if you can switch. Seriously. Let me be a horrible warning! -
Hello All Newbie here
RestlessMonkey replied to longn2bskinny's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks and the same to you! Just remember if you don't click with the surgeon at that seminar, go to another! and there are some horror stories I've read on this board about vomiting up bread, etc. But my surgeon and his NP and staff allayed my fears. They told me everyone is different and most of their patients have no inhibitions on what they can eat post op; they are just satisfied with way less. Carbonation (sodas and beer) will always probably be a no no... popcorn the same ... otherwise, the sky is the limit. And I was told if I try something (I'm still in liquids) and it doesn't suit, wait a few weeks and try it again. -

In Texas, if we didn't purchase the coverage for WLS (speaking for the employer) then you aren't covered. I am not unlike you, but I am much heavier. Since the surgery locally cost about 15K, we discussed it and decided my health was totally worth the cost of a small car, and we'd finance the surgery ourselves. Once we had decided that, we found out our insurance (tricare) had changed and now covered it. So I know how you feel. My doc told me in early July that unless I took action in the next 3 months I'd be diabetic. I was glad to hear him say lap band because I'd wanted one since they came out. Since that 7/3 date it's been a whirlwind, but a great ride. I'm down 32 pounds from the post op diet and looking forward to eating normally for the first time in my life (because let's face it, being able to eat 4 pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy at one meal isn't normal, at least not for a 5'5" sedentary female) Like you I tried therapy and weight loss programs aplenty. I truly deeply know this is my solution. I say research the band (I did, for years!) and probe how you feel about it. If you decide it is the right thing for you...well, you're worth the price of a Kia, don't you think? -

Weighing 300...for me, not so much fun on the way up but I'll be ecstatic to hit it on the way down. They weigh me everywhere too... -
