    Memory Loss

It could be "normal" too...perimenopausal etc. But I really would get it checked out if it were me...UNLESS you are under a lot of stress and tuning your husband out? (coping mechanism?)
  2. i guess I'm superwoman. where's my cape? Why can't I fly? LOL I have always been pretty healthy except for being fat, and I am pretty head strong...I guess those things help post op. (They did say in recovery they wanted me to come back because no one ever remembers them LOL) Since it was my 3rd surgery (1 gallbladder and 2 for the band in August this year) I guess I'm just "good at it" LOL I'd rather have other talents, but we don't get to choose!

weight loss pre op on liquid diet

Yes the showering is standard. Cuts down on infections. and if your doc hasn't found a preop diet important, then you don't need to worry about it (unless you don't like or trust your surgeon)

    Memory Loss

Then you should go see your PCM. If you're getting adequate nutrition you shouldn't be fuzzy that way.

    I can't take it anymore...

My doc only places the "lap band". He said he's waiting for more science on the "realize" band. He feels the lap band is tried and true; I have the AP band and feel pretty good about it. Don't know if that helps you or hurts but I see his point...I always want to buy a car with technology and an engine that's been out a while, etc. They iron out the kinks, THEN I'm ready. Are you an experimental "cutting edge" or a "this better work or I'm gonna be furious" type?

Are you sure you're getting enough protein and taking a good multi vitamin?

weight loss pre op on liquid diet

Amy633 the preop diet depends, I believe, on your preop weight and your bloodwork. If you didn't have to do one, just be glad!
  8. I do agree with Jachut although she worded it perhaps more straightforwardly than I did; I did sit one night with a can of refried beans (unopened) and cry because I was so hungry. But I don't want, a year or so (or less) down the road to have slippage or erosion. I want the band; I can go hungry for a short while. I've enough fat stored up that I know it won't kill me. I get mushies on friday and boy am I ready; but proud I made it through "legal".

    Dying for coffee!!!!!!!!!

Not to split semantical hairs but soft foods have to be digested and are "eating" LOL but either way....whatever worked for you the 1st time should work for you this time! You've btdt.
  10. Until there's restriction, once any post op swelling (if any) goes down you'll be able to eat pretty normally. The band is adjustable...once you start getting fills, you'll feel restriction.
  11. If they're on your list, then your surgeon considers them soft. Lucky. LOL

    I Can't Believe I'm Asking This...

All hyperbole etc aside, Scubadarz if you HONESTLY Think your surgeon would be that way, you might have chosen the wrong surgeon. That is unprofessional and unethical behavior, and if I suspected my doc of that, he'd be gone in a heartbeat. I've never encountered such activity and wouldn't ever tolerate it (but then I'm an outspoken person) I'm sure you've chosen well and your surgery will be fine and no one will look askance at you.
  13. Am I the ONLY person who slept in her bed on her side the first night?
  14. Lap Band Momma tell your anesthesiologist. If you know WHAT KIND of anesthesia (there are many many anesthetics) that would help. If you warn him or her about your nausea they can use a different drug or treat you for it. Good luck.

    Dying for coffee!!!!!!!!!

My doc says 3 months for caffeine, longer for alcohol. BUT you're already eating...do what you did last time! If it worked for you before it should work again.
  16. Soft foods have to be digested and your stomach churns for them, too. But you're a grown up; I don't mean to be prissy. Just reminding you there's a reason for that post op diet and it's for healing.
  17. Wow. How different. My PCM told me if I didn't so something PRONTO he was putting me on diabetic meds. I'd rather almost anything than be diabetic. You may find this book helpful "Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band" by Dr Robert Sewell. The more "austere" diet-type eating is during weight loss. Once you've hit your "goal" weight you'll eat mostly what you used to; just way way less. You will have to chew things well. You will have to avoid carbonated beverages of any type. (although some drink them and just deal with the gas it causes...but it can be dangerous to your band) You can "eat around the band" by eating things like milkshakes Cookies and candy because they "go down" easily and don't make you feel full. If you are happy at your weight and don't want to lose and don't mind being prediabetic (because that's what "insulin resistance" is) then don't bother....it's a tool for weight loss and maintenance...if you don't want to do that, then there's no need to research....just find a new doc who will prescribe the meds for you! (Don't EVER do an elective surgery unless YOU want it!)
  18. You remember that the point of the post op diet isn't to let you get used to the band "mentally" and learn how to eat etc so much as to allow the band to HEAL where it's sutured to your stomach? And that you don't know your body that well...your stomach churns when it digests....you won't feel it but down the road you'll have slipping and/or erosion and wonder why? Not to fuss at you just remind you. The diet is there for a good reason. You need to suck it up and follow your doc's directions; they will help you in the long run.

    Dying for coffee!!!!!!!!!

You need to check with your surgeon; they are all different as to "when". Did you ever get your "fluid" problem fixed or are you still just banded but no restriction?

    Weight gain after gallbladder surgery

Sorry they fill you with GAS, not air...but the point is the same...things probably moved around in there and you need to get refilled a bit.

    Weight gain after gallbladder surgery

Call your original banding surgeon...he may need to check your band and make sure you didn't lose fill etc. Not having a gall bladder should not change your eating etc....(it won't make you hungry for example!) but it is located near the bottom of the stomach. They fill you with air to remove it (just like they did to APPLY the band) and things could've shifted around a bit. It's fixable....your lap band surgeon can help you.

weight loss pre op on liquid diet

heather.vasquez...don't buy a bunch of shakes until you get your diet from your surgeon. They ALL have a different preop diet! for example, I was told specifically NOT to buy the EAS Myoplex, but instead the EAS Carb Control AdvantEDGE! LOL It is all up to your surgeon and they all put their own personal spin on things. Hang in there...it will go fast!
  23. Remember wherever you are to not sleep the day away. Of course get a good night's sleep! But walk frequently. It's important for preventing blood clots and also helps keep your lungs clear. Post op patients who stay in bed too much are at increased risk for clots and "atelectasis" (which can be a precursor to pneumonia) If you aren't walking because it hurts, take your prescribed pain med and WALK! Oh and lots of people swear by Gas X. It didn't help me; walking did, but some suffer with trapped gas.
  24. A pillow to hold over your torso (support when coughing etc)...comfortable shoes, comfy loose clothes, if in a hotel, a room with a refrigerator for liquids, liquid tylenol (for adults...for in case you don't want the heavy duty pain med your doc prescribes) something to read, some lip moisturizer. (this plus the normal stuff like toothbrush/paste, comb, brush, deodorant...but not on day of surgery, and no hairspray on surgery day either...shampoo etc) My doc wouldn't let us shower until day 2 and by then man you want to wash everything! And any meds you are taking and must take post op, see if you can get them in liquid form, or check with your pharmacist to see if they can be split (buy a little pill splitter...very cheap) or dissolved in water and taken that way.

Ah, everyone feels what they feel. But it really isn't worth a moment's more worry.
