    Mental failure/self disappointment

Considering I have absolutely NO restriction without any fill....if you could do it without "fills", why on earth even GET the band? Why not just join WW or "do" South Beach or whatever? For me, I can (and have) lost weight on any diet I tried. I just didn't keep it off. The band is a tool. I don't understand, if you bought it, why you are so scared to pick it up and USE it?
  2. That will be up to your surgeon. Mine had me follow a low carb low fat low calorie (600 a day roughly) high Protein diet for 3 weeks and then another 2 1/2 but each surgeon has his own "spin" on things.
  3. Cassy yes that's exactly what I did. I had pizza one night, a patty melt and fries another, but mostly did what the doc wanted. I DID lose 15 pounds in 3 weeks, after all. But I had too much fat and too many carbs.

    Need help quick!!

Don't ask the doc's office to lie for you though...they can lose licensure etc. They may not look too closely if you jingle when you come in (LOL) but asking them to add a few on will just put them in an awkward position. Good luck!

    Help Im Hungry!!

    Hang in there!

    Question

You'd need to ask your surgeon that one. That's a lot of weight!

    Spending the night after surgery?

Most all my doc's patients (I was a rare exception) stay overnight. We all recover at different rates, and those first 24 hours are critical to make sure we can remain hydrated, don't develop nausea, are compliant about walking etc. It's generally a safety precaution.
  8. Ladies I just want to remind you all...the liquid or "hungry" portion of the band is very short compared to how long you'll have the band. Liquid or preop diets last usually 1-2 weeks, 3 weeks if you have a very high BMI like I did. You stick to it because getting the band is imminent and you want it! Post op you have just had tummy surgery and most people aren't that hungry, and when you are you just tough it out so your band can heal. Then it's on to mushies, soft, and solids. Once you get the right restriction, you don't go hungry and in fact many (get this...)forget to eat. SO If you find the "lap band diet" to be too awful, please don't let it discourage you! Not that I don't think you all are strong willed able women, because I know you are! BUT that's the point of the band, that satiety, that we don't have without it. So by all means, test the waters, try it out, test yourselves! Just remember, having the band will make the "band" diet easier.
  9. I feel wonderful too. But the post op diet is NOT to "change the way you eat"...it is to allow your band to heal. It is lightly stitched into place..your stomach IS PULLED UP over it and it is sewn down. When you eat food (like you did) your stomach CHURNS to aid in digestion. You don't feel it, but it churns like a little washer. You may have torn some sutures. You need to tell your doc so he can see if you need an xray or something to make sure everything is still ok. You wouldn't necessarily feel pain...but down the road you'll get erosion or slippage. Not yelling. I'm not your mama. But apparently you weren't told why it is so important to follow your doc's post op guidelines. You will need to make sure you didn't hurt yourself.

    Pain with a Fill???????????????

    Overeating... sort of

I think the pita chips weren't any worse than the candy pumpkins and mini tacos (you mean like the ones that are party food?) I think you need to eat more protein and not skip breakfast and the rest will be easier on you. HOWEVER one day of eating candy and baked chips and little tacos isn't going to ruin all your hard work. Just move on. As mistakes go, this was so minor!

    Post-op Pain

NinaWoo I'm just stubborn is all! LOL If you have been pretty sedentary, the moving around may be gas! If so, that's good. It will need to dissipate. Don't take tylenol with your pain meds...but you may want to try it for "during the day" tomorrow and see if that doesn't take the edge off. Good luck! It will all be behind you soon!

To tell or not to tell

It is totally up to you to tell or not! It's your business! I personally am a teller. I've even told total strangers. It amazes me how interested and nice everyone is about it! But I am in nursing school; a lot of my fellow students are more "up to date" on obesity in general and weigh loss surgeries than the general population. I've even told my friends on the WW chat board I frequent, and they have been WONDERFUL to me! But we aren't all the same. If anyone fussed at me about it I could blow them off with not problem because honestly, I don't need their approval and wouldn't care if I didn't get it. I'm the one I'm trying to please, and that's the bottom line for me. If you want to keep it private or don't want to deal with any fallout if you have unsupportive responses, then don't tell!
  15. Nope...I did my "own" preop diet. Lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks. Came to on 8/11 in recovery without the band because my diet did NOT shrink my liver. I learned the hard way to do what my surgeon says. I hope you didn't hurt your healing! Next time you want to get the taste out of your mouth, brush your teeth! It worked for me! Good luck and hang in there, ok? Behave yourself!

    Post-op Pain

I didn't take any pain meds...except some liquid tylenol the first 24 hours. Just OTC stuff. It hurt some but I just ignored it. I didn't want to be groggy and sleepy. It was just a personal choice I made. I'd think at 7 days out you shouldn't be hurting so much any more. My doc didn't even give me enough for that long! I pulled out the "on Q" pain thingie he had placed as soon as I got home. Maybe you could try some liquid tylenol instead of the high test stuff? You know, I moved around A LOT from the start, too...slept on my side the first night and tummy the next. It was a little sore, but it prevents adhesions (scar tissue that forms) Maybe that helped me. I don't know. But pain is what the person feeling it says it is. If you hurt, you hurt. If you're worried, call your doc tomorrow and see what they say!

    Port change...?

Thanks for that info, SherryA! I plan on needing a smaller one some day; it's nice to know it won't be a whole new surgery to get it! :tt1:

    Pain with a Fill???????????????

I don't want to be probed with a needle either! But I'm sure OUR fills will be smooth wonderful ones like AliNSandiego! :tt1: Otherwise I'll run screaming from the office! LOL ok not really but I'm with you; they better not hurt me. I'm just sure they won't! Fills are what makes the lap band work!

    Pain with a Fill???????????????

Health4life...you surely knew when you got the band that it would need to be filled! Don't let other people's bad experiences scare you now! The band is almost useless without some restriction! You made it through surgery; that was the most painful part! You can make it through the fills too! And odds are high you WONT have issues; most don't!

    Pain with a Fill???????????????

Why don't you wait until a few days before and see how your surgical sites are healing? You do realize not everyone is poked and poked. We are all different...don't borrow trouble, as my mom would say!

    Introductions.

Thanks wishes4444! Since I have absolutely NO restriction yet, I'd like to go back on my preop diet but can't really until I can eat fish and chicken. But soon enough! :tt1: Other than that I feel marvelous! My first fill is 10/9. I'm too excited for that! I know I probably won't feel restriction yet, but it's the next step!
  22. Respectfully, if you don't have the band, and don't want or need the band, why are you posting? Just curious.

    Help!

I was told that the band will help with physiological hunger but we have to handle any head hunger on our own. Sorry!
