    Excited

I got mine at www.tickerfactory.com It tells you on there how to post it.
  2. How long did you give it? At your height/age/weight 1200 a day should NOT put you in starvation mode unless you are exercising like a maniac every day. But you know your body best. You tried eating all the calories from your exercise and that wasn't working.

    More nervous now...

why no more steaks? some people have problems with beef, but not all. It partly depends on if you take small bites and chew well, and partly on how much restriction you have. I've been told many have problems with stringy red meat but no problems with the better cuts of steak etc. You'll be full on less, and so it won't cost you as much (and you'll have leftover for the next meal! YUM!) but should be able to eat steak just fine.

Don't drink through straws! For a reason that escapes me right now, they can cause dry sockets (and those hurt like the devil). Otherwise I'm sure you'll pull through this like you do most things that come your way!

    Excited

Congratulations, Carol! I'm sure you'll have a great surgery and a great recovery! Won't be long now! It is so exciting!

    rash around incision sites??

I have a reaction to the tape they use...even paper tape (for sensitive skin) as my husband says, it's the adhesive that causes it and they all use the same adhesive. Did you have tape around your sites, or just those steri strips? Try a little hydrocortisone cream and see if that helps. I'd just use it in one spot first to try it. If it doesn't respond to the cream, call you surgeon.

Or maybe you are converting kg wrong? LOL How many kg have you lost, and how many more do you want to lose?

You got a lap band to lose 30 pounds? Sorry I just need to be clear on that...

Not sure that I am fully informed

DFW is still a ways away from Amarillo! So you do write stuff down. And you know what? You are getting surgery and are facing a drastic lifestyle change. A good one! but a drastic one. You CANNOT overthink it! So make notes, call and get answers, whatever you need to do for yourself. They won't mind and if they do, shame on them. They are there because of you and patients like you! So go get 'em!
  10. ok...the basic metabolic rate calculator I found on line (love google) says just to maintain, at rest, you get 1700 cal a day. So with NO exercise, eating 1200 cal a day, you'd lose 1 pound a week (500 cal a day times 7 days = 3500 cal, = 1 pound of fat) I think honestly you're eating too much. I'd keep my calorie intake to a max of 1400-1500 on days i exercise and 1200 on days I don't, if I were you, and try that for a week. See where it gets you. Our bodies are funny; if it is almost your time of month, you may be retaining Water. If your muscles are sore, ditto you are retaining water. SO Only weigh once a day MAX (once a week is better) weigh at the same time same clothes (you probably know all this) and try to keep the cals to 1200 w/no exercise, 1400-1500 with, and see how you do. JMO...not a trainer. Also see how you feel....and make sure your calories are Protein first, then veggies, then fruits, and then breads etc. It should start coming off again for you.

    Pain in ribcage area

Good! it may have been gas. We underestimate, sometimes, how badly gas can HURT! and if it hurts us for a while, the strained muscles are sore afterward for a few days! Glad yours resolved!

If you are going to Mexico, that may be why you are confused...can't tell but I think your surgeon operates from there? If so, then that is a drawback to foreign surgery...hard to have access, or pop in for a fill etc. I'm sure you've researched where to get fills and follow up care. Again, good luck!

Not sure that I am fully informed

My surgeon gave us a manual...but frankly to me it's of limited help because much of the stuff is contradictory or geared more for bypass. The important things are no carbonated beverages, no gum, (could get stuck if you accidentally swallow and you'd be in deep poo!) and most say no straws. Follow the post op recommendations and you'll heal fine; then once you can "eat", what you eat will be up to you. I plan on trying to do a high Protein low fat low carb diet because I feel best and lose best eating that way. The band will be YOUR tool, you use it however you want. When in doubt, call your surgeon's office. They are making a good deal of money on you and you are a customer. (in fact, the trend in health care is to call people "clients" and not "patients") You keep asking until you understand exactly what they want you to do. Ask them to write down the order for you if it's too much to remember! You have to advocate for yourself.... Good luck!

    Can we chew Gum?

rshrn77...that terrible taste is probably fat metabolizing. As a poster said on another thread "embrace your bad breath!" LOL Ok I know you won't, but try some type of sugar free breath mint. Listerine used to make film tabs for bad breath too...

    Approved!!!!!!!

Well congratulations! With you joining in and eating a more healthy menu it can only help your husband. He'll see your progress and get remotivated! Good luck!
  16. How tall are you and how much do you weigh now? That will make a difference in how many calories you need each day to keep losing....I don't know "my fitness pal" but am VERY familiar with calorie counting LOL
  17. RestlessMonkey

    Approved!!!!!!!

What's next? Do you call your surgeon and schedule, or do you have to wait for them to call you! I know you are excited! I hope you love your band like I love mine....and I don't even have any restriction yet!

Am I being mean and rude?

If you have 3 young children that may be why she's tired! LOL but talk to her and tell her what you've told us. As MY husband would say, can't hurt, might help!
  19. RestlessMonkey

Am I being mean and rude?

Your BMI is 39.6 Hers is 29.5 Big difference. Is she UNhealthy? If she isn't, your reasoning is a little bogus. You may owe her an apology!

    Body Piercinqs..Nails..Surgery..No No??

Some nurses are more thorough than others. Some don't think it's as important. One quick way to check circulation and oxygenation is to check capillary refill IN SEVERAL SPOTS .... by quickly mashing on a fingernail and seeing how long it takes the blood to flow back or "refill". Should be under 2-3 seconds. Some rely only on a pulse oximeter (usually placed on an index finger...and acrylic nails stop it from working) but we're taught to check on our own too; equipment can fail. So it is prudent to go in "clean" without acrylics and without polish...we larger ladies are more prone to circulation issues because of our adipose tissue, many with blood pressure problems etc. If you want the nurses to be able to assess you quickly and accurately, leave the nails and polish for another day. They may forget to ask you but in recovery those nurses are going to want to make sure everythings circulating like it should and that you are getting oxygen to your fingers and toes just fine.

    Named a Date!!!!

Congrats! It is so exciting to get "the date!"
  22. I thought that, until you start regular foods, it is almost as important to stay hydrated as it is to get in the "mushie" foods and full liquids. Full liquids are going to just go through anyway...so withholding other lisuids probably isn't that important at that stage.
  23. RestlessMonkey

OK, I would like your opinion....

darn hard choice! I think you need to listen to your gut. I would prefer a surgeon who did way more surgeries....but I see your point about the holidays too. Talk about a rock and a hard place!

    Body Piercinqs..Nails..Surgery..No No??

I just thought of something else...HAIR SPRAY! if you use it, it's safer if you don't on surgery day. It's flammable and not that safe with anesthesia and oxygen! Nothing to panic over, just better to pass on it.

    Not drinking enough shakes?

Let me know what they say! I wouldn't want to drink 6 Glucerna shakes a day, either!
