    Will lean meat hurt

Remember the old saying "Don't borrow trouble"? Well...Don't! If you've done as you were asked you're bound to be fine. Just remember as you go through this that while I know people are truly truly trying to be nice and helpful when sharing on here, if you get advice that contradicts your doctor, proceed carefully. Doc's aren't gods and aren't always right, but if you trust them enough to cut you open etc..then don't cavalierly toss aside their advice about dieting etc :welldoneclap: You'll be great I'm sure!

    Scar pain

If it IS an adhesion the only real treatment is to just stretch and tough it out and hope it will lessen, depending on how long it's been there etc. (My husband had a dog bite with some adhesions, which is how I learned about them and learned I didn't want them! LOL) And it may NOT be one...good to ask your surgeon. For some extreme cases they do surgery, but surgery is what caused the prob. in the first place and it just makes MORE scar tissue. Since I had 2 operations in under 3 weeks, using same sites, I was really alert to making sure I moved, stretched, and kept things moving while I healed. So if yours in an adhesion, moving and stretching will hurt initially but should help minimize it. Good luck! :welldoneclap:

    Advice needed please...

What is your usual Easter dinner? If it were me I'd probably have something easy like refried Beans or some such and plan to have easter dinner again next year... it's not like you're on a diet and can never have ham and potatoe salad (or whatever) again, you know. I will say that I pureed (well I have a small food processor I used loved that little thing!) things like spaghetti and while it looked awful it tasted like it was supposed to. So depending on what you normally have, you can "still" have it.

Yes ask your doc but it sounds to me like an adhesion? That's one reason I started out sleeping on my stomach etc..I didn't want adhesions to form. Let us know what your doc says!

    Will lean meat hurt

I didn't ask him "How do you know!!!" LOL I assume blood work, GI results, ultrasound results, his experience. The "take home" for me, is: If I had done what he told me to, I would've gotten my band as scheduled and only had 1 surgery instead of 2. I did what he told me after that. In 2 1/2 weeks I lost 17 MORE pounds and he was successful in banding me. I wish I'd just done as he asked originally. Just don't eat the extra chicken LOL and you should be fine if you've done as your surgeon asked of you!

    Will lean meat hurt

YES he knew That's why he gave me a 3-week long preop diet! BUT I cheated. I didn't tell him. I lost 15 pounds; he thought I'd done as he asked, but I didn't. It wasn't his fault, it was mine for not doing as he asked. And yes I read on here poster after poster who either didn't have to do a preop diet, or "cheated" and it was fine, or "their doc told them not to worry" so I figured I'd be ok. WRONGO! So do what your doc says, not what others are told, not what others "get away with". Because you may be ok but if, like me, you aren't, it is dreadful. And my doc said "I could've opened you up but I know you had nursing school starting at the end of August and you would not have been able to attend because of a lengthy recovery" so I'm glad he didn't "open me up" The recovery is MUCH longer, the surgery is MUCH more drastic. SO not worth it!

    Will lean meat hurt

Just FYI because of reading posters here who said "it won't matter" and "it won't hurt" (and I'm sure they were well intentioned, not trying to be mean) I "cheated", lost 15 pounds (YAY) and did NOT get my band the first time because for me, it DID matter and it DID hurt. So please...just hang in there. It is not worth it to come to in recovery and be told you didn't get the band.

    Will lean meat hurt

I agree with Sassysara....stick to what your doc prescribed! It's just chicken; so not worth risking your surgery for! Probably it would be ok but the doc gave you your diet for a reason. Just hang in there!

trying to decide but inclined to do it

    Welcome and good luck!

    headache ...HELP!!!

tylenol...but don't take more than the bottle recommends!
  12. RestlessMonkey

    Liquids in; liquids out

NO!!! Don't eat ahead of your post op diet. I'm sure it's not pleasant...NO ONE likes it! I don't have IBS but I too had diarrhea for the first week. DIscuss your heart issues with your surgeon. Hang in there, and good luck!
  13. Still just a student but IMHO the band will make it easier. My doc says to eat in 30 minutes or less...and we won't be eating much. So I plan to just "take" lunch somehow (I know in some places the culture is to skip lunch, but I'm not going to do that) I figure I'll stay full longer so it will be easier than if I didn't have the band!

    Lapband life ?

They are supposed to last YOUR life long. Since they've just been avail. in the usa since 2001, (and in existence in some form since 1993 I think) the data you want isn't known yet.

    Swollen ankles

Yeah if you stand all day that can explain it...even thin people have issues when they are on their feet like that. If it keeps bothering you, try some jobst stockings and they should help! :scared2:

    Swollen ankles

If you keep your sodium consistently that low, and are still swelling, see your PCP. That isn't right! You may have something else going on that needs to be addressed...and can be easily if you catch it! (not a doc, ok? But you shouldn't be swelling like that) UNLESS you're on your feet all day. Good luck!

Yes.....get an unfill! The point of the band is portion control, not starvation!
  18. RestlessMonkey

    1st fill and SICK!!!

WOW no wonder you were miserable! My doc (who is admittedly conservative) started me at 1.5 ccs each time (in my 14 cc band!) WOW! I think, especially with the problems you have had, and your honesty about "hating the band" (who'd blame you?) you are VERY smart to back up and start way more slowly. I think 2 ccs is a great amount. You'll probably not notice it but can take the time to get your enthusiasm back and practice eating small amts(instead of nothing! LOL) and chewing well, etc. And increase it from there. I'm so glad you're doing better now! I'm still flabbergasted at the 5ccs!
  19. thanks for explaining that to me! An interesting point of view!
  20. RestlessMonkey

    New to banding

I don't believe you're stupid, and I don't believe in food addiction either. But I'm sure the psych people can help you out! You know, as an RN, that eating that soon can really mess you up due to the digestive action/movements of your stomach...so get some help quick! And discuss with the doc; you may need some tests to make sure everything is still in place.
  21. RestlessMonkey

    Infection

Good! With a good surgeon (and team), and following the rules about eating post op so you can heal, incidence of band infections are really very very low.
  22. RestlessMonkey

    1st fill and SICK!!!

    YES call NOW! Poor thing!
  23. RestlessMonkey

    Infection

No. The band is inert. You get infections from bacteria and viruses and they are usually transmitted via dirty hands, instruments, or infected blood, saliva, etc. SO if you have a band that isn't sterile, then the germs on it can infect you. ALSO if your band slips or erodes it can mess with your normal stomach integument and make you more susceptible to infections. Did that help?
  24. RestlessMonkey

    Swollen ankles

How MUCH sodium are you getting each day?
  25. I am SO GLAD you shared this. I wish you'd shared it yesterday! I just had a slight unfill because after my last fill everything was getting stuck (and I was chewing myself to death LOL) and I NEVER felt full. I only lost 2 pounds in the last 4 weeks! I'll stick with this level for now but next time I'll ask for a larger fill and see if that does for me what it has done for you and "Bullwinkle". Thanks for sharing! (Now you've helped me with my ticker, AND this! LOL)
