Well you don't have to mix it with gatorade...and I have easily had 32 ounces of Water (or more) with my band and pretty good restriction...in 15 minutes, let alone an hour. Whether you LIKE what you're drinking or not is one thing LOL but whether you CAN or not physically is something else! Liquid will go through your stoma into your stomach just fine unless you are so tight you can't swallow liquids (and your own saliva, for example) However I don't blame you for not wanting to. I'd ask for the pills if it were me. I hated that mag. citrate they had me drink preop. It was just gross.

How can a person be turned down?
RestlessMonkey replied to perfumedame's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree; call your insurance and ask. While similar, all are still different enough that what you read here isn't anything that would necessarily pertain to your case. -
It's probably nothing...but since it's in the general area of your heart, it's best to ask your doc! :smile2:

Not losing post op
RestlessMonkey replied to teresa0199's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The post op diet is for healing, not losing. If you have doubts, call your surgeon or nutritionist. And make sure you get the water they've recommended; right now it's very important. -
Anyone Exhausted???
RestlessMonkey replied to skw08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not me. I was in nusring school and didn't have time to be that tired. Check with your doctor. -
What type of pressure? THis REALLY is something you should ask your doc; not people on a chat board. Even anecdotal posts won't apply to you; what if it's your heart and someone gives you the wrong info and you ignore it? Please call your doc tomorrow and ask.

The bed also gently exerts pressure on your incisions. Didn't hurt mine at all and it won't hurt yours either. :smile2: I think most of us are "afraid" it's going to hurt and so it does, but if you can get past that thinking, it is quite comfortable. At least it was for me.

Liquid should still go through your band fine so the "drinking a lot" shouldn't hurt you. And the scope doesn't go all the way to your stomach so the band won't impact that either. So you'll be fine. If you're in doubt ask your doc, but I think it's a non-issue.

See I think they should tell us to sleep normally from the first night (while we still have the good pain meds) so you don't get adhesions and so on! Since I DID sleep on my side night one (while I was still well drugged) and then on my stomach night 2, it never hurt me to stretch out.

Working 12 hour nursing shifts in hospital with LB
RestlessMonkey replied to T-bonz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Bea1128. don't you get a lunch break? I had 3 day clinicals and just hydrated during lunch. I'd drink 16 oz water on way to school, have a shake for lunch and another 16 oz water, and take 16 oz water for post conference. Then I had the last 16 ounces while home. Plus while getting water for patients would often grab a quick glass for myself. It worked fine. -
POST SURGERY + 5Years
RestlessMonkey replied to LdianeH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly if she's had the band 5 years, you need to trust her to know what to do for herself. She's the one with the band, and she has 5 years experience. Follow her lead. -
can anyone tolerate chicken?
RestlessMonkey replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can. From the start. last fill I was so tight I couldn't eat anything but fish so I got a slight untill (I need something I can live with and only eating fish isn't liveable to me). So with .25 cc's removed I can now eat chicken again! -
I slept on my side nite 1, my stomach nite 2. It's actually good for you to bend and stretch. go for it!

Fatty Liver?? Do they check before surgery?
RestlessMonkey replied to paxie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Amen, Andyisbanded! Do what your doc says! I'm living proof! -
How do you know he didn't used to be overweight and is impressed with your grit? How do you know he isn't dreadfully shy and had to work up the courage to get your attention? Forget your self esteem, why assume something mean of him?

Working 12 hour nursing shifts in hospital with LB
RestlessMonkey replied to T-bonz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
See that won't work for people like me...my doc is adamant about NO Snacks. And he's right; when i don't snack (regardless of calorie count or the healthy nature of the snack) I lose better! BUT either way it can be worked out to our physicians specs; it's life. Thinner people make it work, we can too. -
Scared to Eat! Help
RestlessMonkey replied to yella1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should've called your doc on friday! -
How do you know he didn't like you and was just flirting with you?
-
If that works for you, then good. Personally when I get punished I push back (even if I'm the one who decided on the punishment) That "OMG I sinned I deserve to be punished now" mindset doesn't work at all well for me. If it helps you, then good. If not, then let it go...just start from today making healthy choices. This is life, not a diet. You've only hurt yourself; you can just let it go and move on from here if you want. Or not! Your call! :welldoneclap:

Why can I eat so much!!!!
RestlessMonkey replied to fatgirlinNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's your answer and yes it's normal, although some surgeons do put a fill in during surgery, most do not I didn't feel restriction until my 4th fill. Until then I ate fairly normally. -
Here's a link to a page about adhesions...(probably way more info than you are interested in) Adhesions, General and After Surgery In a nutshell, post surgery, it's when tissue becomes attached to other tissue , but it wasn't connected before the surgery. It happens as we heal and tissues are "together". To prevent adhesions you want to move the tissues so they don't "connect", if that makes sense? (this is really basic here but I think you get the drift). Instead of being very careful with my abdomen, babying myself, walking stooped over because it "pulls" etc I started out from the minute I got home walking normally, moving, twisting, everything but lifting. I slept on my stomach to keep it all stretched out. That type of "normal" movement will help prevent adhesions from forming and giving me trouble later. You don't want to be so vigorous that you pop your stitches, but normal movement as I've described is really helpful. So start now! :welldoneclap:

I had almost no pain. Seriously; only took 1 mg of morphine post op (way less than I could have had), removed the Q ball (thing with pain killer in it that washes your insides) the MINUTE i got home. Slept on my left (port) side 1st nigte, on my stomach from 2nd on (in my own bed) and took only tylenol (liquid a time or two and then regular). The gas (good surgeons remove most of it) gave me minor pain...mostly referred pain from my diaphragm, when I walked a lot (and started breathing more deeply) and when that happened my husband could rub my neck and the pain would disappear immediately. Honestly I've felt worse longer from having bronchitis. Never nauseated for an instant, either.

Will lean meat hurt
RestlessMonkey replied to hopeful60's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry just saw your last question. No I didn't worry about anesthesia because I'd had my gall bladder removed in 2003. I was petrified that I would die. I wrote about it just recently so don't want to beat a dead (LOL) horse but ... I oriented myself immediately in recovery (because you don't feel time pass under anesthesia like you do when you sleep) by looking at the time, I lay still and took deep deep breaths (whether it hurt or not) to clear my lungs, and as soon as they took the mask off of me I started talking to the nurse. In other words I fought to wake up. I refused all except 1 mg of morphine(which she snuck by me LOL) because I wanted to be awake and alert. and my recovery was rapid and smooth with very little pain. I drank as soon as they would let me (water, not juice; less likely to nauseate) and urinated, walked, etc ASAP. I was honestlly so happy to be alive and without that stupid gall bladder! It was OVER! I was very cheerful! I copied that behavior for my 1st and 2nd lap band surgeries and recovered smoothly each time. Only needed tylenol pain meds, slept in my own bed from the start, etc. I was scared the first time but just decided that I had to have it done, that other people lived through it, and that I needed to quit whining (internally!) and make it an adventure. That type of self-talk works for me (obviously)...so I WAS scared, but not any more! -
did you feel any resistance when on full liquids?
RestlessMonkey replied to rabbitt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope never not a bit. I drank 16 ounces of Water in the hospital just a bit after they wheeled me from recovery to my room. I didn't chug it but I didn't sip it for an hour either. I drank it. I didn't get "resistance" until my 4th fill. -
Ready to make the commitment...Will it really help?
RestlessMonkey replied to kristanlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IF your problem is eating too much at meals, then yes. IF your problem is grazing and snacking, then maybe not, or at least, not without some real work on your part. Because it provides portion control but you can graze and literally eat all day. What is that saying...I can eat an elephant, one bite at a time? LOL So only you can really answer that question.
