Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
hsalt replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey December surgery buddies :) I’m having mine on 1st December! So excited but also nervous. It’s been such a long time coming. I know the next year will be a challenge but I’m ready for it! Hope you’re all feeling good about your surgery’s -
Mine is on 1st December. We are all so close. I’m very excited but also getting a lot of nerves about the longterm impacts which I believe everyone will have? Do any of you have any worries and what is everyone most looking forward to? I’m worried that people will pressure me at social events to eat and drink as I’ve not told people about my surgery. I am most looking forward to being able to walk without getting out of breath, not worry about sitting on a chair and breaking it, feeling great, shopping in normal shops….there are so many to list! I can’t wait!

Hi everyone, My surgery is creeping up fast and I’m starting to feel a little nervous. I’ve been reading on what to eat and what to avoid post surgery and it’s a little scary thinking about somethings you will never be able to eat again, or always taking tablets, rarely consuming alcohol, possible complications…. I’m sure most people get to this stage pre-surgery. So far I’ve been nothing but excited for my surgery and a second chance at life and treating my body well. Just wondering from those that have had surgery if they have any tips, advice on how they managed leading up to surgery and how it has been since? How was the purée stage and how long until you could socialise with people without being questioned about how slow or little you’ve eaten? Also I know it says alcohol on special occasions, so just wondering how people cope with alcohol since surgery? I’ve also decided not to tell people and just have the support from my partner who has been amazing. He is fully supportive. I just don’t want alot of critical people trying to tell me I shouldn’t do it or shouldn’t have done it? Hugely appreciate any help and guidance :) Thanks :)

3rd December surgery coming up fast..

Thank you both so much, this has already helped me. Smanky, you are right, I do just need to keep my eye on the prize and remember why I’m doing this. I’m doing this for a healthier happier life. I’m not overly worried about the purée stage and I know all these stages are just a temporary thing which helps. I think the most part I’m worried about is the socialising with friends. I think I will take you’re advice catwoman and avoid going out for meals and just meet for teas or coffees. Luckily I am in my final year of nursing school next year so I won’t be able to see my friends as much as I usually would anyways which I think will help. I’m about 10 days into the pre op diet so I have 18 days to go. Myself and my friends are usually social butterfly’s and enjoy a few drinks so that will be a little strange but I know I can do it. I’ve done it prior when I did the Keto for a year. That’s a good idea with the plastic containers :) Yes I’m extremely lucky to have my partner and you are right, it is no one else’s buisness, I was just unsure if I tell a few people or no people. I’m still undecided and suppose I will wait until the time. I’m so happy to hear there are minimal complications for most. Thank you both for all your advice and support :) One more question, it seems it has been a while since you have had your surgery. How did you find the regain period and keeping off the weight and have any old habits tried to creep back in? Thanks again -
Hi everyone, I am new to this group and have just signed up for gastric sleeve surgery and paying for it all myself. Now it’s official and I have a date (01/12/2021) I’m super excited but also pretty nervous. Just wondering if any of you wonderful people can help me and answer a couple of questions for me? Prior to surgery I’m not booked in for a scan or colonoscopy? I’ve seen some people are? My surgeon said if he notices any hernias he will sort those during surgery. Just wondering about the colonoscopy though? How long is it roughly before people start to return to normal daily activities? Working a normal day without struggling? I’m really unsure whether to tell friends or people yet and am worried that if I go out to meet for coffee I won’t be able to drink a small cup due to fullness and they may start to think somethings wrong and I’m starving myself or something? Obviously I understand that it takes a while until you eat even small portions but I’m just wondering if anyone found it extremely hard to blend in when socialising. As it’s over the Christmas period it will be difficult for me not to see people, was planning on just saying I’m working a lot until the rough patch is over but just wondering how long the ‘rough path’ can potentially last for? Would appreciate any info, tips or stories :) Thanks so much in advance Xo

Pre-surgery nerves and questions
hsalt replied to hsalt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much Rick. You’re totally correct in worrying about what my surgeon worries about and not to get caught up in what everyone else is doing. After I have done so much reading it all blurs and it’s hard to know what is really needed. I appreciate the reassurance :) I have to go on an optifast diet for 4 weeks prior to surgery to lose some weight and reduce the size of my liver so that will help. Wow a wedding straight after, that’s impressive. Do you mind me asking how long since you had your surgery and what percentage of weight you have lost? Did the surgery curb your hunger cravings? I hear fatigue is common, i will ensure I am hitting the correct protein and nutrient intake. Any other tips? Did this fatigue improve over time? Thanks so much for your help -
Pre-surgery nerves and questions

Thank you so much. I wondered if I needed an scan for them to see how big my liver is and to be able to see the surgery is doable? But hey, I’m new to this so was just wondering if anyone else did? When you say beverages go right through you, are you on the toilet straight after? Eating after the first few weeks is understandable and I’m not planning on eating in front of people for a while after surgery. How long was it until you could go out and socialise without worrying about being sick or anything? I’m guessing you felt tired due to lack of food? Nutrients? I know you have to take vitamins for life. Did the tired feeling wear off? How do you feel now? Post surgery? Was it all worth it? Have you managed to keep the weight off? Do you still crave food even though you feel full quicker?? Thanks again :)
