    how long before a #2

It took me a week and I'm almost 3 months out and still have issues with it. The more water the better. Walking is really important too to get things moving. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Is this normal/right?

I've learned that it's all about your surgery center's guidelines. Some places don't give calorie limits while some are really strict about it. I was concerned that I was eating too much in my puree phase but its generally fine to eat 600-800 calories so early on. It's a huge deficit lol and not like you're eating 1800+ . My dietician said around 800-900. Once I'm healed even 1000/1200 is normal. I'd ask your dietician to see if they have any specific requirements for you. 3. Awesome, congrats! That's always a good feeling. I'm almost 3 months out from gastric bypass and have been going on trips. I honestly like it because its a break from the scale obsession and I always lose weight because I'm more active anyway while traveling. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Airplane anxiety, just venting

It scares me too! American Airlines, spirit and jetblue seems to have bigger seatbelts in my experience. Good luck with your flight. You'll be fine especially with that extender! Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Thisss^^^ I hate that my family is so focused on my weight. I understand the point of it being for health and genuine concern but they say awful things to me so I hate when people comment on my weight loss. My brother asked me the other day "it's easier now that your legs aren't so fat right?" Like I couldn't believe the phrasing. I just said I'm not sure what you're asking and walked away. Feels like people want to comment on your weight just to let you know how much they hate fatness rather than genuine praise or anything . I just avoid it all together. And if someone doesn't know I had surgery, I just say I've been eating healthier and developing better habits. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food ideas

I was an avid home cook and baker before surgery and am happy to announce I still am after. There's plenty of things we can cook and eat post op still once you're back to eating regular foods. I do protein pasta with a protein of some kind, I did almond flour crust Pizzas, I've done veggie bowls, omelets, burrito bowls, bariatric friendly cake and brownies, broccoli cheddar soup. My fave right now is a bariatric friendly Cobb bowl since I can't eat raw leafy vegetables yet. It has baked peppers and kale, wild rice, avocado, red onion, cherry tomatoes, cheese, boiled egg, olives, vegetarian bacon and a dijon lemon garlic vegan dressing I make. Here's a pic of it. One bowl has about 22 grams of protein, good amount of fiber too. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

You can do it! I had two weeks on my pre op diet. Some things that helped: get different flavor shakes you like. Blend them with ice so you feel like you're having milkshakes. Stock up on sugar free jello and popsicles. I also sucked on sugar free jolly ranchers when I wanted to put something in my mouth. If you're allowed a small protein meal a day, eat it really slowly. When I got sick of the sweet stuff I made vegetable broth with chopped raw scallions in it. It goes by so fast and if you just have a week, you'll be done in no time! February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Great to hear everyone! On my end, I've lost 42 lbs. I can pretty much eat everything but I stay away from bread, white sugar/high sugar food/drink, and raw vegetables per my doc's order. I tried alcohol for the first time two weeks ago.. a vodka shot with water and lemon juice while out with friends. Didn't get super drunk really fast or anything, pretty much felt the same as it did before surgery. I do get very nauseous randomly on some days but for no apparent reason. I'm still on the nausea medication. I find that if I'm dehydrated and constipated, it makes me want to throw up. I take extra strength stool softeners every day along with my vitamins too. I've thrown up twice, once Feb, once in March, from eating too fast and getting food stuck in my esophagus. Doc said I can wait for it to pass but I find it so uncomfortable that I just need to throw it up. Definitely getting really good at eating slowly now and have learned my lesson. I just got back from a trip and barely ate anything on the trip or got in my 64 oz each day because I was out doing so much with people. I've been incredibly nauseous for the past 24 hours partially from constipation, my period and what I'm suspecting is dehydration. I am really good at getting in all my protein and water when I'm home but I have so much trouble keeping up with everything once my routine is switched up. I travel a lot so this is something I definitely need to get better at. The dehydration is no joke.
  10. I know BMI is not the best indication of things in certain situations but I'm happy to share I'm out of the obesity class III category. I'm in class II now. Just 47 more lbs until I'm officially "overweight". Haven't been just "overweight" since I was a kid. "laughs"

    Bullying post op

I really appreciate everyone. I was so upset last night. Was definitely venting and just trying to find a place to get it out. I know I can't let these experiences live "rent free" in my head. It was actually the first time I felt self hatred since my surgery though. Definitely brought up some old bad feelings. My dad was really verbally abusive to me growing up and I had a boyfriend who also made comments about my size so I'm incredibly self conscious now. Just looking forward for people to not say anything about my size at all. That'll be nice. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Iron supplements

Hey there! I'm in a bit of a predicament. I am running low on vitamins and just ordered more but I leave for a trip on Thursday. The vitamins might get here after I'm gone. I have some different leftover vitamins but they don't have iron in them. While I'm gone for 4 days, do you think it'd be okay to take the bariatric vitamin without iron and an over-the-counter iron supplement just for those 4 days while I'm away? I will say I am slightly anemic since surgery so I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to go into the office to buy them because they upcharge them by 200% (26 online, 60 in the doctor's). Anyone try a non-bariatric iron supplement for emergency cases? Thanks!

    Airplane anxiety, just venting

Same I have to take an international flight next month and the tickets are over 1000 because im too scared to fly coach. I'm still big and tall and just too ashamed to ask for an extender. So looking forward to being a normal size so I dont have to deal with this anymore. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Airplane anxiety, just venting

Really hoping sooo. I don't know why but the thought of asking for an extender scares the crap out of me. I feel so ashamed mostly. I remember being like frozen in place when it didn't buckle last time. Even if I wanted to ask I was in total fight or flight mode and couldn't. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

It was pretty close just missed it. I could actually buckle it but it would pop open though. I don't measure myself but everything that was tight on me before is now really loose. I guess it would.help to measure myself. I know at my heaviest I fit into the Spirit airlines BIG seats so I could do some math from there. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Before and After Photos

Anyone else LOVE the whole foods hot bar? I love that you can choose your own portions so you waste less. Was on the go and wanted some food quick so I got myself some tofu, squash, egg Salad and a potato samosa. Was really feeling the restriction so I ate this over the course of the whole day. Haha I don't doubt it, some supplements suck. Sadly my taste buds would have me puking it up before I could even get it down. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    My Day 1 photos

You're amazing! I know it's hard but try not to be too ashamed of yourself. Shame isn't the greatest motivation to change but recognizing your potential is! This is an awesome place of support so we're here for you. Congrats on getting the journey started, that's a really difficult thing to do! Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

You're def right! I try not to check my weight every day anymore. Usually every 3 days. I should go less because some days it makes me so frustrated. I also bought a smaller pair of pants that are soooo tight so when I can fit in them or they're loose, I'll know regardless of the number that my weight has gone down.

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had my surgery on Valentine's Day [emoji3590] I'm officially at 270 as of this morning. I was at 309 when I went in for surgery. I want this damn weight to come off faster but I guess slow and steady wins the race. Its still funny to me being the fat person that doesn't eat anything. Obviously people who know I had surgery don't judge me about that but going to events and stuff with people I'm not familiar with and eating a couple bites of food while weighing 270 lbs is a funny image [emoji1787] Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. Yeah, I honestly struggled the most in the beginning of the journey (a bit before my initial consultation) and then extreme struggle right at the end (just weeks before my pre op diet) because of that constant fear that eating was over and done with forever. Yeah...not the case at all but damn does it harbor the food funeral. I honestly wish bariatric centers would offer more emphasis and support in that. I think a lot of people go into it believing surgery means no more enjoying food at all in any capacity...not the case. I had a lot of trouble with overeating a month before my surgery. I was working out like MAD so I didnt gain weight but I wanted to eat everything delicious because I believed that was my last chance. It's literally maybe a month to two months until you can eat relatively normal foods again and it goes by fast. I had my surgery in February and I'm already eating everything again accept bread, raw vegetables and refined sugars. I feel plenty satisfied and enjoy what I eat. One can probably argue all day how to see food post op and how that can benefit your weight loss and weight maintenance but im talking more so about realistic, day to day stuff. For some the all or nothing approach works but for most, it's okay to admit to yourself that you still "enjoy" food while also not letting it take over your life or your weight. I can't stress enough how temporary the extreme dieting is. It's not meant to last. No you can't overeat post op, but you likely won't want to anyway and you can still enjoy a variety foods just like before. When I needed to get back on the horse pre op, it helped to remind myself that it's not a goodbye forever from food, it's a goodbye forever to overeating. Its merely a "see you in a month or two" to solid foods and complex carbs. Lol Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. Just had a thought...before I didn't really care about this but now that I'm 3 months post OP today I kind of love that my surgery was on Valentine's Day. It kind of gives new meaning to that day for me. I was never a big fan of Valentine's day. I have a messy, less than perfect track record when it comes to dating so in all honesty, Valentine's day brought me a little bit of pain and anguish for all the bad romantic experiences I've had thus far in my life. But now, it's no longer about what went wrong for me, it's finally about what went right – and self-love. This was something I was desperately reaching toward for so long and I don't even know how I did it, it goes by so fast, I rose above the bullshit in my life and put myself first for once. I'm looking forward to Valentine's day next year, my surgeversary... not about what I lack or love or whatever but what I gained that day and how far it took me.
