Has anyone taken phen/fen who has also been banded?
dsylvr replied to annecolorgreen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I took it also and lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks. Then it was pulled off the market. My insurance company made me have an EKG and echocardiogram before they would approve my surgery due to taking it. With the band it do get hungry, but can eat only a small amount of food. With the Phen-fen I never ate. -

How long should I be on liquids after a fill?
dsylvr replied to Amoud's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Dr. says 2 days liquid and then back to real food. I would give his office a call. -
HELP!Antidepressants,do I have to stop pre-op?
dsylvr replied to noosagirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take Celexa and that was the one pill they said NOT to quit. Just don't forget you should never cold turkey any medicine for depression or anxiety. I had a friend do that and the results were not pretty. 4 weeks out and I am now off all meds but the Celexa and 1/2 a blood pressure pill. Best of Luck! -
Hi, No, no tightness. But I am my second day of liquids. I was told I could go back to real food tomorrow. But I think I will do a day of mushies before I try real food again. I wasn't scared at all and it didn't really hurt. Just had some odd things happen.
-
Hi All, I just came back from my first fill and was wondering if anyone had any of these things happen. The Nurse Practioner tried to find my port with the needle and instead hit a pocket of fluid. She tried three times. She had me stand up and lay down. Finally she called the Dr. in. He said it was just healing fluid and drew off a couple of syringes full. Nothing to worry about. My port was actually to the left and higher up. It took him one try and he put 7cc's in an empty 14cc band. Can you feel the fill going into the band? I felt sort of a vibration I guess you would call it. The water they had me drink went down okay, but gurgled some. Is all this normal? Thanks!

Oh my gosh! You hit my nail on the head. I have days like that. I was banded on 7-11. I sometimes think, maybe I should have just become bulimic so I can eat whatever I want. Is that crazy or what? Today was one of those days and I stopped McD's and got a Quarter Pounder with no cheese. I didn't eat the bun. But I still feel like a failer. I am still waiting for my first fill and I hope that will help. I can't even watch the Food Network anymore. Then there is the pressure from family. Everytime I talk to my Mother she is like "have you lost anymore weight". I finally told her I threw the scale out and will only weight when I go to the Dr.. And I am not going to tell her when I have an appointment. Geez, it hasn't even been a month. Pheww! Thanks, I feel better now.
-
Wow!! How wonderful. I am so happy for you. I am 4 weeks out from my banding and waiting for my first fill. I feel I am eating too much, but you give me hope. Hooray for you. I'll bet your family is so proud of you. Best Wishes for continued sucess.
-
Congrats on your banding. Just give it a few days and you will be able to get more fluids in. In the meantime, just keep sipping away. I had to force myself to keep drinking the first few days. Beef broth went down the easiest and tasted the best. I have discovered if I get all my fluids in I have more energy. It will get easier. The gas will go away too. It took mine 4-5 days. The worst is over and now its on to a healthy life. Hang in there. Every day is a little easier.

I was told no rice or doughy bread as they will work themselves into a ball. You might want to try staying away from them and see if it helps. I eat a lot of ground turkey spiced up different ways. It seems to do better than chicken breasts. Good Luck.

Persistant Diarrhea?--Help
dsylvr replied to 2nd2none1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The same thing happened to me. I was banded July 11th. Once I started on my "mushies" I was okay. Now a week on mushies and I have the opposite problem. I think I may be having too much protien and not enough vegtables. I am being patient and just waiting for real food and my first fill. I am sure it will take time for my body to adjust to all the changes. Don't get discouraged. Just think of the end results. You have the surgery behind you and a new life ahead. Think of the great future you have in front of you. That is what I do. I am still excited about having been banded. Even through the tough times. Best of luck and think of the end prize of a healthy life. -
13 days post-op and feeling desperate
dsylvr replied to lafrogura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone. I was banded on the 11th and can eat quite a bit also. My Dr. started me on mushies 10 days post-op and I can eat a good 1 and 1/2 cups of food. They told me this would happen until my first fill. I was discouraged but I know in time I will have some restriction. I just try to make sure I get my fluids in and quit worrying about the amount of food I was eating. I was making myself crazy. Also, it will take time for us to learn this new way of life. We didn't get this way overnight and adjusting is going to take some time. Our brains need to catch up to our stomachs. I feel 95 percent of this journey is going to be mental. This in just my opinion and we are all different people. Good luck in your journey. -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
dsylvr replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow! I never had time for any of this stuff. My surgery was scheduled for 9 am. I got to the hospital at 7 am. I remember looking at the clock in the OR and it was 9:20. I woke up in recovery what seemed like a couple of minutes later and was out the door and on my way home by 1:40. That was 7-11-08. I was back to work on the 21st. I do wish I had taken another week off. I guess us older folks take longer to get our energy back. -
Could this your port? I got my band on 7-11 and I can feel my port under my largest incision.
-
Thank Goodness!! Some feels the same way I do. I was banded on the 11th of this month and my Dr. told me I could start my mushies when I went for my post-op exam 3 days ago. I am blending everything, but it takes quite a bit to feel full. My first fill in on Aug. 11th and I am hoping this will help. What a great place to talk to people who know more on how we feel than even the Drs.. I have a great Dr., but I doubt he understands the mental part of all this. We are all so anxious to get the weight off and feel quilty or discouraged is we feel we ate too much. What is too much? I was never told what amount of mushies to eat. Just to eat healthy foods and stay away from fat, sugar and fiberous foods. Thanks to all of you have been through the stages us newbies are going through. You are a great help. I would be in a constant panic and worry without this site.

I also take the Centrum Orange Chewable Vitamins. My Dr. stopped recommending the 2 Childrens Vitamins also. -
Newly Banded and Afraid of Dehydration
dsylvr replied to tottie1990's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded a week ago today and had the same problem the first 3 days. Afterthat, I was fine. I can get most of my 2 protien shakes in and the rest of my fluids. I actually got hungry earlier this evening. Hang in there. It gets easier. -
Hi. I am 56 and was banded on the 11th. So far everything is going great. I do not have Chrohn's, but I wanted to let you know I hope all goes well for you too. I know how you feel. I want to live again. I want to go and go and go. I am tired of being tired and not feeling like going out and enjoying life. Take care and good luck.

Anesthesia need advice please
dsylvr replied to choopie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded 2 days ago and being put to sleep was what I worried about the most. Acutally, it was the easiest part. I remember looking at the clock in the OR and the next thing I knew they were waking me up in recovery telling me everything went beautifully. All that worrying was for nothing. I am having to force myself to drink anything. I really am not hugry and I was told this would probably happen. I am going to work a lot harder tomorrow to get all my liquids in. My Dr. recommends 60 - 80 ounces a day. Take care and I am sure all will go well. -
Newly banded, what is this feeling?
dsylvr replied to Rivieramaya05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for all the helpful hints. It's has not yet been 48 hours since I woke up to this new way of life. I guess considering my age and state of health I am doing pretty well. I still am not hungry at all and am having trouble getting all my fluids in. My daughters are with me and keep bringing me different things to try. So far the sugar free popsicles have tasted the best. I need to start my protien shakes today, but the thought makes me ill. -
Newly banded, what is this feeling?
dsylvr replied to Rivieramaya05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I was banded yesterday and have the same thing. I have tried the Gas X also without much relief. I was belching a little earlier and it may have eased up a little. -
Hi! This is my second post ever. I am 56 and will be banded this coming Friday. I am all set to go. It took me 14 months to get approval from my insurance company. I wish I had started all this a lot sooner. Good luck.
-
This is my first post ever, anywhere. I wanted to thank you for your post. You sound so positive about everything. I have my procedure in 6 days and I am so excited and yet scared too. Your post made me feel so much better. I took a year to talk myself into this and 14 months to get approval from my insurance company. It sounds like everything is going perfectly for you and you gave me great hope that all will go great for me too. Thank you.
