Gastric Sleeve LA Self Pay
ColieCallwell replied to Tammy N's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with@ShoppGirl. I met with my surgeon first and they did an accurate height check. I was an inch shorter than I thought, and so I barely squeaked by. Also, you may have sleep apnea, if you haven't done a sleep study you may want to. Sleep apnea is a co-morbidity. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
I paid out of pocket because I didn't want to wait until the holidays to have the surgery done, and I wanted some control over my surgery date. Insurance takes about 6 months start to finish. I was also on the cusp with my BMI being too low, and was told if I lost even a couple of pounds, I would disqualify myself for insurance. Once I was self pay, I was scheduled for the surgery within a couple of weeks. Also, in total, $26,000. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

To Lie or Not to Lie
ColieCallwell replied to Officially Not Fatty Matty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lied to my job because I didn't want them balking at the sick leave I needed to take - you know, "that's elective surgery, why should you get time off" kind of thing. So I told them I was having a hernia repair. I mentioned the surgery to my dad, who then told his sister and all my cousins I was thinking about it, and then I started getting articles sent to me about the dangers of the surgery. I also mentioned to a friend that I was considering it, and she gave me a whole slew of reasons why it was a bad idea, and then tried to talk me into this metabolism reboot diet [emoji849] So, I told them all I decided not to do it. They don't even know I had surgery at all. Only my husband and two sons know I had the surgery. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
One week post-op — feeling hunger
ColieCallwell replied to imhenryxvi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also feel what seems to be hunger, but I've attributed it to stomach acid. If I drink warm tea or a protein shake, it goes away. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
12 days out and I think I broke myself...
ColieCallwell posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi guys, I had surgery on 8/26, so 12 days out. I also had a hernia repair. I felt amazing a week after, minimal pain, great energy, drinking my protein shakes and liquids just fine. Then, over Labor Day weekend, we went to the beach, and I walked a ton (like 17,000 steps two days in a row). By the end of the weekend, I slowed down, became incredibly fatigued, and now I can't get comfortable AT ALL. My upper back and my chest are just very achy. I haven't reached out to my surgeon because I'm sure she'll tell me pain is normal at this stage. My first post op appointment isn't until next Wednesday. I'm hoping I'm just sore, and with rest it will get better. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance! Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

Thank you for this suggestion! My husband gave me a massage in my shoulders and back, and I feel a lot better. I'm so mad at myself for overdoing it. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Potty talk - probably TMI for most people
ColieCallwell posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OMG y'all, DO NOT TRUST A FART. First, I'm 8 days post sleeve surgery and haven't had a proper bowel movement. So, I'm at the DMV with my husband so he can get his truck registered, and I'm sitting in the BRAND NEW truck with our 5 y/o while my husband is inside. Surprise! I have to fart, so I do, only IT'S NOT A FART! I literally **** my pants while sitting in our brand new truck. So I text my husband, "I just **** my pants, I need to come into the bathroom." He says come on in, so I grab the 5 y/o after much complaining about not wanting to leave the car, and go running into the DMV bathroom. I run in, to my relief, it's a 1-only with a lockable door, I look at the toilet and SOMEONE HAS ALREADY CLOGGED THE TOILET! There are no paper towels, 'cause covid, I threw my underwear away and cleaned my shorts as best I could with toilet paper and then ran out the DMV, jumped back in the truck and sent a text to my husband that I was off to find a bathroom - he texts back hurry! I'm number 23 and they're on 21! (Because they needed to check the VIN on the truck) By the grace of God I found a public bathroom down the street. So there I sat, amongst the hypodermic needles, a pile of someone's clothes and somebody else's thrown out deodorant. Fortunately nobody else was in there. I made it back to the DMV just as my husband came walking out with the new tags. And now I'm traumatized...(and so's my husband, lol!) Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

Cooking for the family post-surgery
ColieCallwell replied to QuirkyParrot's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We also did Hello Fresh for about a year until my husband went back to work full time (he was a stay at home dad to our 5 year old while I worked 50+ hours a week). We loved it. But once we both were working, neither of us wanted to spend 45 minutes cooking dinner after we got home at 6 or 630. I think we're going to try to find one where maybe it's already prepared, you just have to throw it in the oven. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
ColieCallwell replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Y'all! I am 4 days post surgery, so still on full liquids and sick to death of the fake sweet stuff. I bought a bunch of freeze dried miso soup you just plop it into hot water, and then I filter it through a strainer. I'm in heaven, lol. (It's the little things right now [emoji16]) Just thought I'd offer up this as a suggestion for those of us still on full liquids. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Less than a week and worried about Covid shutdown
ColieCallwell replied to Tony B - NJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you! I think me and the 3 other patients my surgeon did got in by the skin of our teeth. My surgeon even commented that morning that she was surprised we didn't get cancelled. The hospital was full, and so there were several, I'd say half the floor I was on, were COVID patients. They had some sort of plastic over their doors. The nurses reassured me when I was walking (we had to walk the floor 14 x before the surgeon would let us out) that the air filtration in those rooms pushed everything outside. So far, no covid, so that's good. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

Did you guys have a hernia repair also? My nurse in the hospital said most patients who had a hernia repair complained about pain in their upper back. I had it pretty bad in my upper back for the first couple days. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

I had mine done on the 26th. Plus a hernia repair. I think the hernia repair made recovery harder. I'm 3 days out now and today was 500 times better than yesterday, so it must only get better. My husband had rny in December and has lost over 100 pounds, he asked me if I ever read the Interview with a Vampire books...I was like...yeah...??? And he says he thinks this process is similar to when they turn into vampires, it's uncomfortable at first and then you're almost superhuman. I thought that was funny. I'm down 9 pounds since surgery. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
ColieCallwell replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Met with my surgeon yesterday for pre-op...oof, signing all the paperwork made me nervous! She said she tightens the muscles at the top of the stomach so that it helps prevent any future issues with GERD, but can make recovery a little harder. I was planning on taking a week off, she told me I would need at least four. I will have to play it by ear, my job is super demanding and I haven't told my supervisor exactly what kind of surgery I'm having (there would be a lot of judgment and I think he would probably tell me this isn't a necessary surgery and not approve my leave). My surgeon told me to say I'm having medically necessary abdominal surgery, and they'll write me a note. I can't wait til we're six months past surgery and all the scary stuff is over! Uuuggghhh...!!! My date is 8/26. I am so frickin worried it will get cancelled for covid. Hopefully they can get you rescheduled before your insurance runs out. It can take a couple of months for your insurance to truly be finished. Maybe carry on as though you still have insurance...??? (Don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious...) I'm in Northern California...my surgery is scheduled for the 26th in Sacramento. I keep waiting to hear that mine will be cancelled.
