I'm doing okay so far, but won't even take a taste of alcohol for fear I'll take it up again. We went to a party last night and it was not as hard as I thought it would be to not have a drink. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
ColieCallwell replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations!!! I'm 9 weeks post op too! I've lost 47 pounds. It is AMAZING! I had my 2 month post op at my surgeon's last week and they were happy with my progress. I was a little discouraged because I stalled out for about a week, but my nutritionist reminded me of all the NSVs...I've stopped having to use my cpap, my feet don't ache anymore, I'm down from a size 18 to a size 12. I still want to lose about another 40 lbs, and the weight loss is moving much slower now. I really have to be more diligent. We had a Halloween party to go to yesterday, and it is HARD to navigate the food (and drink) table at a party! My husband and I were the only sober people there, lol. But it was still fun! I'm learning you don't need food and alcohol to have a good time. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
I think I may have been an alcoholic before surgery, on top of having a food addiction. I'm only 2 mos post sleeve surgery, and have loved not being tied to having to have a drink every night after work. I'm terrified that if I take one drink, it will turn into a daily issue again. I also worry about my liver, without the proper anatomy to properly process alcohol, what damage would that do. I'm just going to opt for trying not to drink alcohol again. CPAP on Surgery Day
ColieCallwell replied to Pete-TheTimeIsNow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took my cpap with me to the hospital, but never used it. I quit using my cpap about a month after surgery. I wore it because I snored so badly, but after I lost weight, I quit snoring. If I try to wear it now, it feels like the pressure is too high. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
ColieCallwell replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you making sure you're meeting your protein and hydration goals? My surgeon didn't give me calorie goals, just protein goals...and to up my protein intake if I'm working out. Also, I notice that I lose less quickly when I'm working out. I think because perhaps fat is being replaced with muscle. Have you tried doing measurements instead? Sometimes when I don't lose weight, I still lose inches. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
If I have time in the morning, I eat real food for breakfast - a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese, a soft scrambled egg with a little melted cheese sometimes some salsa, I really like a soft boiled egg with sweet potato mash. (I've been craving eggs lately!) We buy those 2G greek yogurts with only 2 grams of sugar, they're 9 g of protein and taste great. If I don't have time, I make a protein shake with Ripple plant milk (high in protein and calcium, low in fat, calories and sugar) with Bariatric Advantage vanilla powder, a tbsp of peanut butter and about a cup of spinach, blend it up with a little crushed ice - tastes like a milkshake. Online "support group" not very supportive
ColieCallwell posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a person who always wants to know the "why" behind a rule (unfortunately!). So, as I've slowly been progressing through my surgeon's plan (still on pureeds for two more weeks, and I'm 7 weeks out), I've started wondering if we will always have to drink protein shakes. I hate them, they taste gross, and the ingredients list is like 5 paragraphs long full of things I can't even say - besides that, they're full of carbs and often high calorie. And if we do have to always drink them, why? Why can't we meet our protein goals through eating real food? For example, an egg and a morningstar breakfast sausage patty is 16 grams of protein and 150 calories. The protein shake I drink is almost 300 calories (bariatric advantage with PB2 over a plant based milk). Also, bone broth, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, tuna are all high protein, low calorie options that taste way better than protein shakes. If a person is able to meet protein goals and still stay around 600 calories a day during weight loss phase, why the shakes? (I don't know if that's feasible, I haven't tried it - I am still drinking the nasty protein). So, I posted the question to the online support group my surgeon keeps on Facebook. I asked if a person can meet their daily protein goal through real food, are protein shakes still required. Man! You would have thought I asked if I could eat a full meat lovers pizza from Papa John's! People launched on me, accused me of eating too much food, told me if I wanted to lose weight and maintain it I HAD to drink protein shakes for life. Then the surgeon came on and publicly shamed me, said I was way off track and wasn't following the plan. What bomb did I set off??? And nobody ever explained WHY the shakes are required??? The previous time before this when I asked a question, almost the same thing happened. I asked if I could drink the Unjury ready made shakes instead of the powder because they taste so much better. People berated me, and told me the ready made shakes were not good for me. Then the surgeon chimed in and said the ready made were not as good because they are protein caseinate instead of whey isolate. Um, the packaging clearly says the Unjury brand is whey protein isolate. So now why are they bad for me? The next day, my surgeon posted a long post about people having this surgery and not taking it seriously. I can't help but think it was in response to my question about protein shakes. I didn't even have Facebook, I deleted it in 2016 when things started to get so nasty online. I only started using it again to join my surgeon's group. I cancelled following the page. I was really ticked off at the responses. I'm so angry I don't even want to continue with my surgeon's office. AND, by the way, I am not way off track, I've lost 41 lbs. in these last 7 weeks, and I'm really happy with that. Started at 235, now 194 (and have been losing about 1 lb a day for the last few days). I know I'm being a baby, I think I just needed to vent. I do like my surgeon when we meet one on one for appointments. Facebook is evil. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
My 5 year old left me holding his vanilla frozen yogurt while he played at the kids play area at the mall. I took one tiny taste, and it disgusted me, it was way too sweet. I'm only 7 weeks out. I haven't had cravings for anything sweet or junky. My cravings are for things like an egg, or filet mignon, lol. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

Food cravings 6 weeks post op
ColieCallwell replied to alandk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you try to satisfy your cravings with healthier options? I've been having cauliflower mash and cauliflower risotto, just from the frozen food section, and it tastes sooo good. Or have the pasta sauce you want, but over zucchini noodles? There are a ton of recipes online for oven fried this and that. When I was doing keto (low carb) a few years ago, we used crushed pork rinds as breading for chicken fingers and it was delicious. Then bake in the oven or air fry. I know how hard it is to kick cravings though! It sucks! Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Online "support group" not very supportive
ColieCallwell replied to ColieCallwell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Arabesque I have the same question about why am I still on pureeds! I am STARVING all the time! Even my surgeon's diet guide says soft foods start approximately 5 weeks after surgery. The surgeon scolded me on Facebook and said at 7 weeks out I should only be eating 3 tbsps of pureed food. I think the plan has changed or something happened to make the surgeon change the method, but the diet guide was never updated. It could be so that people lose more weight more quickly. I ditched the support group, it's not a requirement. I have started testing the water with soft foods. I've been doing some tough workouts in the mornings, and I feel like I need an egg every now and then, lol (soft boiled or poached of course!). Thank you to everyone who responded! I feel less like a failure hearing from all of you! And I really appreciate all the thoughtful input. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

Help,3 week plăteau and I am în month 2
ColieCallwell replied to gabydoc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, I've been disappointed this last week with my weight loss, BUT I have a scale that also measures visceral fat. I also started back to crossfit, which may have something to do with it. While I only lost 2.5 lbs overall, my visceral fat decreased significantly. Maybe take measurements? Sometimes if you're not losing weight, you're still losing inches. Foamies are the WORST
ColieCallwell replied to Tinyhounds's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm about 5 weeks out from sleeve surgery, and my surgeon doesn't have me starting soft foods for another month almost. I've been on pureeds for the last couple of weeks, she had me on liquids only for almost a month. I'm always so surprised to read people are already on soft foods so shortly after surgery, (I'm also a little jealous - I can't wait to eat real food!). Why no iceberg lettuce?
ColieCallwell replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl, I'm with you. I'm starting to wonder why the huge push for protein over a well balanced diet. A person can eat too much protein...if you eat more protein than your body can use, it also gets stored as fat. I get it while we're in weight loss phase, but seems a person could back off the protein only diet once in maintenance, just stay away from processed foods, sugar and carbs... Success with gastric sleeve starting with lower BMI?
ColieCallwell replied to Mandy2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was like you. I started with a BMI just barely over 35, had tried keto, crossfit 6x a week, intermittent fasting. I dropped weight, but it was impossible for me to stay consistent. I am a month out from sleeve surgery and have lost a little over 30 lbs. Even in this month alone, there would have been several times when I would have fallen off a diet due to "life" but the sleeve has kept me on track. I'm slowly but surely detoxing from food, and eating for nutrition rather than comfort. It's proving to be a very useful tool. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
One week out of gastric sleeve surgery
ColieCallwell replied to johny2k7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today is one month from surgery date. I am thrilled with my weight loss. I had been unable to lose any weight in the last decade, despite trying everything under the sun. My surgeon kept me on liquids for the first 3 weeks. I'm now on pureed foods, and am enjoying finding foods I can eat. Tonight I bought some of the Indian foods in a bag that are microwavable, and ate a tablespoon of each with some cauliflower rice. I don't feel deprived because I'm making it work. I puree things in my blender, and everything tastes amazing, lol, (after all those nasty protein shakes!). I'm really happy with my decision. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

How soon after bariactric surgery combined with a fixed hernia surgery can a person walk their well behaved GSD - he needs 2 miles worth of exercise?

I had a great dane and a jack russell. The great dane always tried to squeeze herself into the jack russell's bed. I was just joking about the bed [emoji16] Love the picture! Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

What a handsome boy! I agree, it all depends on you and how you're healing. I had the sleeve and a hernia repair. I was able to walk a mile within a week of surgery, now post op 3 weeks, I can easily walk 3 miles. You might just break up his walks. Instead of doing 2 miles all together, do half mile increments throughout the day? My surgeon told me I can even start back to Crossfit as long as I feel up to it. She said to just pay attention to your body and if it hurts or you get too fatigued, stop. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Yay! I just started pureeds this week, too. Also try bariatriceating.com, there are some really great recipes. The ricotta bake is one of my favorites. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

VSG 1st month
ColieCallwell replied to Katherine Velasquez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same. I'm 3 weeks out tomorrow, lost 25 lbs. off the bat, not a pound down the last 4 days. I started tracking everything in MyFitnessPal to see what my calories/macros look like. I'm following my clinic's plan to a T. I'm trying to be patient and not get worked up over the stall. But it is super frustrating. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app
