I was telling DH that I'd like a last supper the night before surgery. I don't want anything fancy - just fried chicken and loads of it! Anyone else planning on a last big meal just before surgery? I've been pretty good with my pre-op diet, and have lost 5kgs (11 pounds) since I started it 2 and a half weeks ago, so have decided that I'm going to have that last 'naughty' meal my lb surgeon said he'd turn a blind eye to. Only 3 days before surgery for me, so this Thursday night, it'll be fried chicken, fries with gravy and coke at my house for dinner!

Or I hope anyway. I just did my pre-admission interview and the nurse was concerned that because I've lost my voice as a result of me having to give a presentation at work, that I may have picked up a virus. She says if I'm feeling even slightly sick tomorrow, they might cancel. I soooooo hope not!! Cross your fingers for me that it all goes smoothly. I am being admitted at 9am tomorrow (about 18 hours from now) and my sx will be at 12.30pm. This will be my last post here, so (hopefully) I'll see you all on the other side!

well I've had my last meal before surgery tomorrow! Korean Barbeque and Steamboat was closed so we had yum cha instead. Yum! But that's it, my very last full meal before I'm banded! I really have taken the brakes off a little this week, but luckily haven't gained any of the weight I lost back. Mind you, I haven't lost anymore either. But it's all good, by this time tomorrow I'll be a bander.

mss, my long-time family GP, who happily referred me for lapband surgery, has said he won't refer me to a PS because 'it's cosmetic' (I bet you can see my eyes rolling from here). So unless I find a new GP, I'm going to have to bear with 3 monthly referrals. Once I see Dr Allbrook we can compare notes.

Who's Getting Banded in August???
lellow replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck edel and Jill! See you both on the other side! 39 hours to go until my op! But I'm hanging around here for the next 24 hours at least. So keisha and all the other Aug 1st people, we can pace the floors together until it's time! -
We did fried chicken last night in the end, and I actually couldn't eat much and felt sick as a dog right after! It's put me right off it now! Lol! My surgery isn't until 4pm Fri so I have been told I'm to have liquids only from 4pm Thurs. So I will go to lunch with my parents on Thursday but will monitor what I eat. :wink2:

I spoke to Dr Allbrook's receptionist today after she replied to my email, and she suggested coming in to have a chat with Dr Allbrook, so I now have an appt with him on the 24th of Sept. I'll ask Dr Watson for a referral when I see him for my first fill, and then toddle of to get Dr Allbrook's opinion. Though sight unseen, his receptionist has given me an approximate cost of $6500-$15000 out of pocket with a straight TT on the bottom end of costs, and a lower body lift being the most expensive.

It's okay ichatter, I've changed my mind since then! It's because my boss has given me the day before surgery off too now, and my parents are taking me to a Korean restaurant for a barbeque and steam boat lunch (my normal meal of the day) and that's going to be my farewell meal, so to speak. It's nice because it's a low fat, low carb option, but fancy enough to be a bit celebratory!
-
Moe, I'll be thinking of you too! And all the other August 1st banders! This is it, the time is almost upon us. I'll post early Friday morning before I go into hospital to wish you luck again.

Yeah I'm a little freaked out. My surgery is in 3 days. But I've made a definite decision. And that is, that even if the band doesn't work to control my hunger, I am never ever going to allow my hunger to control me again. The last 2 and a bit weeks on the pre-op diet have been hard, but it's also hardened my resolve. I will keep getting filled until I find proper restriction, I will ensure that I eat well, I will exercise. And I will lose this weight. And I know you all will too.

He's recommended Dr Bruce Allbrook, and I've emailed Dr Allbrook's rooms to find out if he would see me for a consult now, despite the fact that I still have 27kgs to lose. If I don't hear back from him today I'll call him. Dr Watson reckons he's the one plastic surgeon he would happily recommend, too.
-
When I first started on here, my ticker said 28 days and here I am 4 days away from surgery. You'll be there before you know it! I just realised I haven't gotten the pre-admission call yet! Must ring them tomorrow and see what's happening. I've been in meetings all week and have missed a tonne of calls, but no one has left a message....

Great news Roheryn! It'll pass in a flash, I bet!
-
You SHOULD be loving yourself sick, Nat! You're a legend! As for the boobs, yes PS is always something you can use to correct that! My DH reckons if I lose my DD boobs when I lose the weight, he's kicking in for a boob job to go with the tummy tuck! Lol!

How did you all cope with the pre-op diet
lellow replied to TessJ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the most awful headaches for 3 or four days, just like you did, but I'm now about 2 weeks into my pre-op diet and am coping with it much better. I only replace 2 of 3 meals with Optifast, but am finding myself eating less during my 'normal' meal at lunch. And despite the fact that I'm far less hungry than that first week on the diet, I'm still losing weight. So don't despair, it does start to get easier from here. -
mss, which PS did Dr Watson send you to? I'm wondering if it's the same one he recommended to me?
-
I actually did speak to Dr Watson about this when I say him on Wed. He believes that I will definitely need a tummy tuck if I already have an apron from having kids, but doesn't believe it will be covered by my insurer (HBF). He's given me the name of the PS he recommends and suggests I speak to him early-ish so get some ideas, so I may just do that. But first, to lose 30 kgs! Though today I completely fell off the wagon after a whole day at work and then coming home to a sick toddler. I made him a big bowl of oats, which he refused to eat. He only wanted my low-cal chicken Soup and veg. So he ended up sharing a bowl of chicken soup with me, and coz my tum was still growling, I then ate his bowl of oats as well. I don't even feel guilty about it because I'm tired and cranky. But it makes me even more grateful that after the band, I won't have to fight the hunger on top of everything else, or even be able to eat more than I need.
-
Urgh had a Teriyaki chicken stick today because I went out after work and didn't have a Protein Shake with me. Feel like crap for breaking from the diet for the 2nd time in a row. And I'm still hungry, so I am so there with you all! Back to it tomorrow. It's another day after all!

Who's Getting Banded in August???
lellow replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a fallacy that celery has no calories. Everything but water has calories. It just doesn't have much. Check out Fitday.com for some info on calories. It's also a great way to keep track on your daily caloric intake! -
Good luck with you appt Sunwyse and I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Dont' forget to come back and let us know how it went.
-
Yep I had my pre-op too yesterday and everything is good to go for sx on the 1st. My Dr says I don't have to do any more pre-op dieting because I've lost 4.4kgs already (just under 10 pds) but I told him that I'd like to continue as it's helping me with learning to control my head hunger, and he was okay with it. He told me though that if I wanted a naughty meal here and there before sx to not feel bad about it. But to be honest I've got a lot of the head hunger under control now so am too scared to let myself loose!

Perth newbie waiting to be banded by Dr Stephen Watson
lellow replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
sim, sounds like you're going great guns! Not long now until you can eat that banana. 3 weeks will fly, I'm sure of it! MrsWal, I bet it was you on the phone today with Kate while I was at Dr Watson's room waiting for my appt. Someone called and I heard Kate saying yes we can do the consult Tues and have the op Wed. The person then asked how long after the op before they could fly or drive. It was about 11.30-ish, too. Was that you?? My appt went great. Dr Watson was surprised at how much I'd researched. I also said he came highly recommended by his previous patients! Lol! All is ready for the op next Friday and he said I could abandon the pre-op diet if I wanted, but I told him I'd prefer to stay on it, and he told me I didn't need to be too strict with myself if I didn't want to. So tonight I had a cup of rice porridge. I reckon I might not be able to eat rice after the op, so treated myself to one last taste. It was all boiled so I don't think it would be too many calroies, and where normally I could eat a huge bowl, I only had enough to stave off hunger, so I'm happy. So the countdown is well and truly on now! Woo hoooo 9 days and counting! -

WTG MrsWal! I actually have my pre-op appt with Dr Watson today so will let you know how it went when I get back. I've done a lot of the prep stuff already, eg the blood tests, hospital admission forms and paid all the relevant fees. I can't believe I'm 9 days away from surgery! I've heard nothing but good things about Dr Watson (even within this thread!) so I think you've made the right choice. :seeya: -
My pre-op appt is tomorrow too, but seeing how it's only 1.40pm in the afternoon here atm, I expect I have a longer wait than you, cutie! My DH is doing the pre-op diet with me, but last night sneaked off to have some chocolate biscuits! :scared2: His loss though...or more like NOT his loss, because I've lost 4kgs and he's not lost one measly bit of weight! And last night we were talking about how I want to lose more 5 more kgs by Sept so I can take dance classes as a reward, and he mentioned that he's a little bit worried that some salsa-dancing stud will steal me away! I told him that I'm a beautiful woman even now who doesn't need to lose 10 kgs to meet a stud if that's what I wanted to do! So if he trusts me now, he can trust me even when I'm thinner! Funny how men think if you lose the weight that you're not going to love them as much or that you're only with them because you're big and have no other choice. Or worse, that if you're big, no guy will want you except them. He forgets that he first asked me out 7 years ago when I weighed exactly the same as I do now! And I have never had problem meeting men before him either. In fact I haven't been single since I was 15!
