My brother is looking into lapband surgery in Singapore at the moment. I might send him the link to this thread. I'm in Australia and got lapbanded last week.
-
ladies I'm 9 days out from surgery today and I have to say, that today, if not for the fact that I couldn't eat more than 1/2 cup of oatmeal, I wouldn't even know I had a band! No gas, no pain, no lack of energy. I feel great! It will knock you about for a week, and then you'll be feeling fine. I'm even getting creative with cooking, and am making mousakka tonight. Made fish and potato cakes last night. What I'm trying to say is, it gets better with everyday you hang in here. You're all going so so so well!
-
Sending all my 'feeling full' vibes your way Ro, though it sounds like you're doing great so far! Hopefully the next 18 days will pass quickly for you.

I'm 9 days out of surgery now and burping isn't much of a problem anymore. It's not as easy as pre-surgery, but I can burp now. So it doesn't last forever!

Lol Ro! It definitely is slowing down now that I'm on mushies, but yeah it's still steadily coming off. Last week I lost 3+ kgs, but have resolved to stop weighing myself everyday because watching the weight loss was becoming addictive! And yes, I think you can go back to work after a week, but like you Ro I'd rather take two!

Keeping motivated - Friday morning weigh ins!

Speaking of graphs, I have one too . Yes I'm a bit of a data geek as well, and while it's early days, I find it motivational watching it go down, down, down to my goal weight. I WILL get there this time. And stay there! -
Remember cutie, you'd have lots of swelling too this early on. I'm sure by next Friday your swelling would have gone done substantially. You are all CHAMPIONS!! Well done to committing yourselves to this thread and putting yourself out there for all of us to support you through this! All we have to do is take it week by week - commit to our exercise and food goals for the week and just make it to next Friday staying true to them. I know we can do it together. I am feeling much much better but still have a week off work. So I'm committing to walking at least 30 mins everyday, not just 4 times a week, this week.

That sounds like gas pain alright. Walking is the ONLY thing that works well for me, though peppermint tea is another alternative if you're not up to walking yet. Though I am also concerned about the fever you talked about in another thread. I think you should see a Dr about it, just to be on the safe side?

I started to feel the start of some hunger day 5 after the sx. My Dr told me I would on day 5-7, and he was right. He told me to move to full liquids when I started feeling a little bit of hunger. He then told me I would start feeling hungrier by day 7-10 and to move to mushies. Again he was right! I can't eat much - maybe a 1/2 cup fo mushies at a time - but it keeps me full for hours. He then said by the third week, I'm going to start feeling almost normal, and by the fourth week I'd be able to eat almost as much as before I was banded. THAT meant I was completely healed and it was time for a fill! He also said pj txlady, that if I got a fever, to keep an eye on my port site for infection, and to come see him for some low grade anti-biotics. It may be nothing, but better safe than sorry!

2 kgs = about 4.5lbs! WTG Fee! And WTG cutie for getting banded!

Thank you for keeping us August bandsters so well organised! There are many others who have been so helpful as well - you know who you are - but Lanakila, you've really been doing the hard yards keeping tabs on everyone! Well done, matey!

Finance in Western Australia for plastic surg

I'm also with hbf so am interested to see if they cover the surgery. I know they won't cover cosmetic surgery, but if it's listed as 'reconstructive' I wonder if it would be? -
I was coming in to ask the same question. I moved to mushies yesterday and at dinner, ate quite quickly and more than I have been since surgery - maybe 2/3 of a cupful. Immediately after, I felt pain high up in my sternum, like a big gas bubble was stuck there. I sipped on Water to ease it, but it took 20 mins for the feeling to start to disappear. I'm wondering if I ate too much or the food was not mushy enough (mince, carrot and gravy?)

TessJ, as long as you take it easy once you're back at work, one week will probably be fine. I'm taking two weeks off, but only because I've now also caught the flu and the constant coughing is slowing the healing of my port site. Though do remember you'll likely still be on a modified diet of mushies so you need to plan your work meals. Good luck for Monday. The first two days after surgery are the worst. It gets exponentially better from then on!

Started my new life 8/01.mixed emotions

just wanted to say that I went to lunch with my DH, my MIL and my 2yo yesterday and I was dreading it thinking I'd stick out like a sore thumb. They ordered and I asked what the Soup of the day was. It was pumpkin, carrot, leek cooked in fish broth and pureed. It came in a huge bowl and I had 1/2 cup while everyone else had fries and cakes and iced coffees. It was really nice and I realised that by being forced out of my comfort zone, I ended up with something really special instead of the fries I always used to eat. When my MIL realised I wasn't having anymore soup, she asked if she could try it. She reckoned I got the best-tasting meal of the lot! And I did! So it's not all bad, guys! Really. There will be many silver linings, not just the weight you lose! You just have got to watch out for them! -

I get where you're coming from. I was banded 1st Aug too and those first few days when I could only have Clear liquids, my DH cooked for the family and I stayed in my room, feeling left out too. I told him that night and he reminded me that by the end of August, I'll be right there eating with them, just far less than I used to (and slightly modified to exclude foods hat 'stick') Last night, I had some egg drop Soup before they had their dinner, and 1/2 cup filled me up nicely. I was then able to feed my 2yo his dinner without feeling the slightest bit of head hunger or desire for his food. I also knew that whatever he was eating, I'd be able to eat in 3 weeks. So knowing I won't have to give up these foods forever has helped me manage my head hunger a lot. Maybe if you can train yourself the same way? That's it's not 'goodbye' but 'see you later' instead?. -
Woot Kristen! Welcome to bandland!

I agree Lanakila! I consider myself a lady, but in this last week flatulence has become my friend. My poor DH doesn't know what's hit him.

Keeping motivated - Friday morning weigh ins!
lellow replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Roheryn, me too! Lol! I hope it never stops! I also realised that you're in an earlier timezone to me. Did you want to start the Friday weigh in threads from next Friday or did you want me to still do it? -
If it helps I barely slept the night before the operation. I was all nerves! I got up at 1am after tossing and turning before hand, and didn't nod off again until close to 3am. Even in the 2 days right after surgery, when I was sore and full of gas, I wondered why I did this to myself. But 4 days on (yes that's only 2 days extra) I've feeling like this is it, this is the change I've been waiting for. I've lost 5lbs since surgery already and I KNOW they're gone forever. Just remember why you're reaching for that brass ring, gorgeous ones!
-
Heya sim! More importantly, how are YOU? I'm good myself. Moved from Clear liquids to full liquids today and am coping with the returning hunger quite well for the moment. I have a 1st fill date of 5th Sept so I do know that until then my appetite will be larger than normal, so I've got to choose good foods at each meal. You're almost 3 weeks in from surgery! How are you feeling?
